As the video states, the gains are above 5,000 rpm. You never drop below that range when racing anyway, so once you are out of first gear, you are always in the positive gain area.
This video is great! Mainly because I won't have to buy a cam. Less Low end torque is the last thing the coyote engine needs when compared with LS3s and SRT8s.
A full bolt on 2011 coyote with a boss 302 intake, jlt cai, bbk tb(not sure if 85 or 90), kooks headers, offroad x pipe and cat backs will put down 430 rwhp at 8,000 rpm and holds it until 9,000. We set rev limiter at 7,800 and shifted at 7,500. The intake manifold allowed long range rpm so stage 3's will be nice at high rpm...I now have a 14 and am about to go full cobra jet intake so I keep my low end torque and still rev high to hold gears a bit longer... seriously considering the stage 3 nsr cams.
With those bolt ons, and a Boss intake manifold, you can achieve the same gains by playing with the cam timing. People tend to neglect the hidden power in the cam timing.
I would have never cammed my LS2 if I had lost any bottom end. My cam cost 1/4 of the price and I picked up 34rwhp peak and made almost a 50whp gain at redline. I'd like to see a cam on this Coyote that gained more power and didn't lose any bottom end. Do some more research and get us a design that will improve power everywhere.
@Ironbloodus I agree with you, after you buy the parts and get a quality shop to install and tune you're in it for $1,500-2,000 right? For power you'll really only see above 7,000 RPM. Please tell me I'm wrong here. It seems that money can be put to better use: 1pc aluminum driveshaft, rear gears, racing stripe (LOL).
The FPV GT & FGX XR8 in Australia with the blown coyote see about 450rwhp stock with a 1.9L blower factory fitted. Tune only bumps it to about the 530rwhp mark. Injectors, fuel pump, intercooler, blower snout and tune sees around 600rwhp on 98 bit more on E85. Forced induction is the way to go with the coyote, even better when it comes out of the factory with a blower on it 👍 Much love from Australia though, you guys set the records we just try break em, and succeed every now n than too 😜

What a waste of money for 30 hp. The coyote already loses out on torque to the LS platform. With these you give up even more low end for not much top. Looks like forced induction is the way to go on coyote

That's probably why we only see relatively small gains. Law of diminishing returns is at play here. The coyote is one bad ass engine though for sure. Nice job Ford

You go bolting stage 3 cams (50+ peak hp gains) on a 5.0 with a Boss intake manifold/CAI and a spot-on tune, you're going to clear 500 hp at the crankshaft at over 7,000 rpm. I think cams are a great option for the 5.0's. Safe power that's always there.
guy made 410whp 398wtq at dyno tune performance here in Virginia beach with a 13 gt with headers off road x pipe full exhaust intake and tune. then made 441/410 from adding boss 302 intake manifold and 90mm throttle body. MUCH better combo than cams in my opinion and easier on the wallet.
Yeah these 5.0's will crank out 500 flywheel hp without even touching the cams. Going from stock throttle body to 90mm throttle body bumps the engine's breathing capability from 900 cfm to 1,100 cfm...pretty big difference. Although stage 2 or 3 cams on top of that is really the cherry on top IMO, huge gains of 40-50hp above 7k rpm

The stage 3's will see 50 hp gains up top, same price. Even stage 2's though, with all the bolties, will see a 5.0 up to around 500 hp at the crank, give or take. Stage 3's + full bolties will clear 500 hp, prolly 520-ish at the crank. It's the difference between a full-bolties 5.0 that puts down 420 hp, and a full bolties + cams 5.0 that has 10 second capability without boost or nitrous.
I search for new stuff all the time on ported head installs or cams, trying to stay N/A on my coyote and want to do these mods in the future. Thumbs up if you are getting tired of seeing Mustangs with blowers.
The engine pulls with significantly more torque where it matters though, from 5k to over 7k rpm. This makes for solid gains at the track. You're not even going to notice the torque loss on the street unless you floor it in the wrong gear...

Maybe 10 more ft/lb where as an LS motor losing almost nothing down low and gains 3k-7+, by the time the 5.0 makes power the LS motor is already well in its power band. This is why it’s almost not worth camming the DOHC 5.0 unless your plan is all out N/A
Not bad actually, look what 370Z owners are paying for that much of a gain lol 5-6K in bolt ons and they are lucky to hit 12s. Still can't hold a candle to how cheap LSX power is though.

Coyote is a short stroke engine. I own LSX and coyote engines. LSX is cheaper to build too.
I would like to see someone install stage 1 or stage 2 cams on the same year f150 coyote and see how much power they pick up.

The idle change is very, very minor. The computers job is to cancel out overlap to increase engine vacuum.

You don't race at 3k RPM. The torque loss wouldn't bother me at all. My Yote will be cammed.
