Thanks for watching!
I came here for the finish. The door looks awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome and thanks!
Amazing...this is the best finished barn door that I have ever seen... congrats.
You did that! I luv the rustic look you placed on the door. U also have simple hardware
Yes! Thank you!
Seen a lot of diff barn door walkthroughs. This is my favorite. Just watch how fluid this is. Thanks. I subbed and am looking forward to more. I hope your channel grows. You seem like a genuine dude.
That means alot. Finally back at it and more to come :)
DUDE! Great video for a DIY barn door! this is a great description of where someone can start if they've never done this before and not have a massive fail!
Nice! You also had to move you wall frame to the right! Or whatever it is! Well done i love it!
I’ve purchased the barn door hardware and lumber for this project, but I haven’t had the confidence to start, yet. After watching your video, I’m ready to get started. Thanks so much!
Epic! Glad to help.
Update
It turned out great! Thanks so much! One thing I did differently was, instead of hanging it completely level, I dropped one side 1/2”. That way, it slowly self-closes when left open. It’s a closet door, so that little difference is really handy.
@@geographicoddity9444 Nice!
I have looked at probably about 100 videos on modern barn doors and I like yours the best! The color and design is just what I was looking for. Thanks so much for sharing your talent. I look forward to viewing and learning more
Looks awesome! I’m getting ready to make one also for our master bath. I like the idea of staining with a dark color than white to give it that weathered look.
Oh wow thanks so so so much
Your video was really helpful and so easy to understand. I knew it was able to be done wow oh wow I love your help please don't stop
Quedó impecable, saludos desde Santiago de Chile.
Nice weathering job!
Thanks!
I need to find someone Upstate NY to make me 2 doors at a reasonable price. Good job Sweetie!
Great job. Great idea for tight spaces. Thank you.
Exactly and thank you!
Beautiful
Thank you
Awesome project! I really love the look of the white over stain distressed. Thank you for this video!
Thank you for the video, Matt. gave me many ideas on what I need.
Very good job
Awesome video! What type of white paint did you use? And what grit sanding block? Thanks!
really well done, great idea about the color i love it.
Nice looking door! Well done!
Nice tutorial and a great looking door... Instead of putting the final top stops in to discourage the door from popping off the rail (Which look totally out of place even behind the hanger) would it not have been easier to lower the baton that the rail is secured too and adjust the roller hanger height accordingly negating the requirement for those top stops?
Good job amigo👍
Thanks!
Good vid and nice work 👍🏽
Appreciate it
very nice , I love it , greatings from europe
Well done.. I wold love to be that handy.
Love, love it.💗
Good job!
so cool!
Well done!
Nice
Love this. Didn't you do an entryway table or hutch similar? I can't seem to find that video. Oh, great job as always. Thank you 😁
Not that I can recall, but I'm sure I'll be tackling those at some point as well.
Gifted...
VERY nice!!👍👍👍👍👍
thanks for this
Very nice!!
Awesome vid! Looked through all the comments but didn’t see a response: What size of back boards did you use?
1x8s
Nice job bud👌
Hey Matt I didn't hear the dimensions of the long pieces were they 1x6? I know the boarder and cross pieces you said 1x4
Does it have a certain gap between your door and the door jamb that is existing. Thank you and nice work.
There is a slight gap, but nothing huge.
Did you consider sloping the track slightly so that it would close on its own? I expect for some people that would be desired, but I wonder if maybe it would pick up too much speed and cause damage over time.
We keep the door open when it’s not in use so the slant wouldn’t work for that. You could certainly do that though. I doubt it would be subjected to more wear and tear than out two boys out this thing through.
Hello Matt,
Thank you for the video. I built the door back in march if this year and it really warped bad, aboit an inch at the top. Any advice on how to fix it? Thanks in advance.
Oh no! That is a bummer and I've been there before too. You could try adding routing in C channel along the back, but if it's already warped, that might be difficult to do. The warping is caused by moisture fluctuations and the cut of the wood. Assuming you got the lumber from a big box store (like I did for this project), the wood from these places is never fully dry even if it says it was "kiln dried." That coupled with a lot of the boards coming from the center of the tree containing the pith of death. This is the most unstable part of the tree where most of the bending and twisting starts. If you end up going the route of rebuilding and you source your wood from the same place, make sure you look for the straightest quarter sawn boards you can find. Let the wood acclimate and dry out for a week or two before building. That will give you a better base for success with this or any other woodworking project you try in the future.
Do you have to add the board behind the rail or can you screw the rail onto the drywall and into the studs behind it ? What is the purpose of the board behind the rail ? I have seen video's and photos of both with that board and without so I know it can be done both ways .
It all depends on your setup. I needed a little extra space to clear the existing door trim and the screws weren’t going to hit studs so it added a little extra support. That being said, it’s not completely necessary and drywall anchors where you don’t hit studs are totally acceptable.
Olá! amigo tu arrasou, Dios te bendiga.
Do u have a link for the door hardware kit online?
Can you share material list?
Just curious how long it took you to construct the door? Thanks and it looks great!
Constructing it could be done in an afternoon. Nothing too crazy.
What kind of poly did you use I did this and my white turned BRIGHT YELLOW???
Estoy solucionando el mismo problema en mi baño,👍
this is great!
do you have a material list for this
Is there any way to put a lock on the door to stop unwanted guests ?
They do make a lock for sliding doors, just poke around on Amazon a bit.
How do you paint like that? Could you please explane?
What type of stain did you use for the doors? This video is great. Love it!!
Espresso was the color. You can choose the brand you like best.
nice
Now that it has been a few years since you built this door, has it shrunk or warped and created any gapping between the boards?
It hasn't shrunk or warped. The light gaps you see in the video are still the light gaps you'd see today. The only things I would have done differently would be the stoppers up top being black and not white and water based poly instead of whatever kind I used. It yellowed on me...
That door will have a wicked bow in it after a short time
Really, how can you prevent that?
What sheen of paint did you use? If I use something like eggshell, will it get dull when sanding it?
What kind of color paint did you use? Did you use wood conditioner and waited for it to dry first?
It was just an interior white paint. not sure of the exact shade of white. No conditioner used as I knew I'd be "weathering" it. Any blotchiness didn't really matter in this case.
Great build , how did you put together your door guide ? Glued or did you use screws ?
screws to hold it in place, glue and brad nails for the construction of the guide itself.
What material do I need to make this exact project?
Sorry I don't have plans made at this time.
Do you make the door just big enough to cover the old door frame
that's what I went for, but you could go bigger...or smaller if you want some peaky gaps.
Did you put a lock inside the bathroom?
Nah
What grit did you use to sand it?
Do you have a list of wood sizes used? Also a link for the door kit ?
I don’t have plans currently, but the kit is in the description
Hi Matt, i noticed you left your door trim in. Is it recommended to leave it in, so as to give the 1x6 stability?
It doesn't do anything to add stability, If we removed the trim, it would just be one more thing to have to finish.
Are there handles on both sides? If so is the handle on the inside awkward?
2:21 recessed handle.
What type of White paint?
Is it QDE?
Do you have a list of material? Or did I miss that.
Sorry I don’t have any plans at this point.
How to lock for privacy thanks
couldnt you have just used the door you have there and put a thin veneer over both sides and then put the cross pieves on it or would that have made it too heavy? nice job by the way!
There are probably a lot of things I could have done, but the purpose of this was demonstrate building your own board and batten door. What you are suggesting is an entirely different video altogether. Thanks!
How do lock inside??
How do u lock the door
I like your door but don’t understand why you didn’t finish both sides equally…I would want my door look pretty from the inside as well!
Totally. Can't wait to see how yours turns out!
Can someone help with the best place to purchase the hardware. I truly like the hardware in this video
ebay
I would just poke around on Amazon. Bigger selection there than the big box home stores.
I bought mine on amazon. Same exact set he used. Very easy
What did do with the original door frame?
Door frame is still in place. Old door is up in the attic haha
How do you lock the door.??
Is the polyurethane over top really necessary since you painted it?
I would say yes because if something gets on it, like a spill or small dirty handprints it makes it much easier to clean off. Just my opinion. I made this same door and have a granddaughter lol
@@scottraymer6835 What hardware did you use to hang it? Everyone I see is not the right width for the hardware to adhere to at the top.
@@grlshockey1 I ordered my hardware through Amazon. SMARTSTANDARD 6.6ft Heavy Duty Sturdy Sliding Barn Door Hardware Kit -Smoothly and Quietly -Easy to install -Includes Step-By-Step Installation Instruction Fit 36"-40" Wide Door Panel (I Shape Hanger) Hope that helps.
I also used a 1x6 as a header to provide more support. it is still working great. Good luck
What kind of wood did you use? Thanks
Pine
Great job!!!
I just have a question, how do you do to lock the door?
one of those hook and loop locks would do the trick...or just trust that your spouse knows how to knock ;)
Is it too noisy?
Why did you move shelves on the wall?
how do you lock it
anyone else see the little peep hole in the door at 5:08 and 5:11......nice job bud just giving you a hard time
how do you lock that door. I mean, it is a restroom
With a lot of trust haha. Lock kit in the description.
Great video! What are the dimensions you use for that door?
what you do with the old door frame?
Its still there. What are you talking about
the shadow boxes are out of level. i can't focus. please fix. oh, an nice job on the door ;)
That finish on the door makes it look like it was dug out of the trash. Why do people do that? It must have been a woman's idea to do that. Learn to say NO.
I did it with the Stodoys plans.
no you didn't
looks like shit, not a good job of weathering it at all
What kind of wood did you use?
Just pine from the home store.
