SCART - "Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs" - a Euro "golden oldie" connector and a true " blast from the past" - as radio DJ's used to say about old popular music vinyl disks!! (Yes children, once upon a time sound could be magically captured in a rotating plastic spiral groove ).😄
Note to self......must go up into loft and chuck out all my old scart cables, adaptors and switch boxes!
full pin scart switch boxes can be useful for cannibalizing.
Went from "why would anyone be interested in a SCART adapter?" to "I'm stupid for wondering that since most of the world never had those things". I still have a couple of cables and gizmos with those connectors. Can check if I find something interesting :)
Blast from past, at least 20yrs i reckon
Looks like the connectors are good quality and worth salvaging.
Not sure why you would bin that, there's way too much waste these days as it is. Okay, it's nothing special, but maybe give it away via this channel, an online forum or even get a few bucks on Ebay, but please don't bin it and contribute to the ever growing landfill.
Remember long time ago setting a voltage on a scart pin to change video mode . Comp video -> VGA I think . Pin8 is a mode pin around 12v
Thanks for the video - brings back memories
Yes nothing but switching some signals between connectors. SCART MULTI PIN arrangement to individual signal connectors.
scart was a good idea at the time, it incorporated composite video and rgb in and out, plus audio in/out, the biggest problem was that the connecte+or fell out easily if you moved the equipment, specially if you had a 'full' cable that was thick and stiff, could have been better with a latch
It also had signal wires to switch over the source
Nice idea, poorly executed
Search for 'scart pinout' to see how much they crammed into it
it worked fine enough as a cable compared to having 10 coaxes or 3 flimsy aux cables. easier to put in behind a device too without moving the device. the bigger problem with is that you can't know what it supports by just looking at it. like does the device support svideo over it? have to look in the manual! is the cable you have wired for everything? who knows! rgb pins included? who knows! either of the devices supporting rgb? who knows! data? nobody knows.
edit: usb-c is having same problem now
Not me looking to buy one now...
I'm not throwing out my old scart cables/adapters until I'm absolutely sure I won't need them again, I still have a SVHS machine and laserdisc player, bought back in the 2000's when I was collecting old obscure films & capturing them onto computer, this is one of my old laserdisc captures ruclips.net/video/7_foClSWUbM/видео.html
A simple device it seems, but being from the states, I am unfamiliar with its use. What did it plug into?
VCRs & TVs had scart sockets as an 'upgrade' to phono/RCA connections, so you only had use 1 cable to get stereo audio and video, which could be RGB or composite or Svide, but the bulky size of the plugs was so annoying, and if you accidentally stood on one and bent its metal grounding shield it notably increased the annoyance of trying to plug it in round the back of the VCR/TV when you couldn't see what you were doing.
@@licensetodrive9930 Very innovative idea, something like the modern HDMI. I do love the retro electronics over modern. Thank you for the reply!
@@FridayHouseXYZ Yes, an early version of HDMI is a good way of describing it.
The only situations i say SCART connections in North America back in the day was on some pro level video equipment - 3/4" VTR and studio monitors mostly.
That would explain why I personally have never seen one. I've only ever worked with residential
Wohoo. Even simple stuff can be interesting, but you sound a bit depressed.... Keep up the good stuff, we like it!
Not depressed, just extremely busy and struggling to find time to do everything I want to do.
