  • John from www.growingyourgreens.com/ shares with you how you can easily root your plants with a Oxyclone 20 Hydroponic Clone Machine. In this episode, John will share how and why rooting your plants may be a good idea and the least expensive commercial hydroponic clone machine he could find. In this episode, John clones Roselle aka (Hibiscus sabdariffa) which is one of John's favorite Tropical Perennial Leafy Green vegetables. You can use cloning to propagate many different types of edibles including culinary and medicinal herbs. You will also learn how the oxyclone 20 machine works and get John's review on it. After watching this episode, you will learn if the Oxyclone 20 is just a scam, or a product that can be worth its weight in gold.

    Thanks John - I love when you post product videos such as this. Yes, anyone could probably build one themselves, but I have run into problems because I never know exactly all of the parts needed to be successful. So - An affordable product like this would indeed help me on my gardening journey... Thanks again for sharing this

    Hey John. It's john here I am a gardener and also I keep fish in tanks. I have a pump just like that and the line that comes out is supposed to let air in it should have a adjustment knob on it to let the air into the stream on water if your valve doesn't work. Try taking the value off the end of the line. That should get some air flowing around. Love the videos keep it up :)

    Dont dip your cuttings directly into your cloning gel. Small pieces of your plant might stay in the gel, it will no longer be sterile and you will greatly reduce the lifespan of your gel. Also if you keep your gel in the fridge it will increase the life span of the gel and it will hold on to the plant better. Great video though! Thanks for getting the word out there for cloning.

    I bought one of these Oxyclones a long time ago thinking it would work well. Unfortunately I have never been able to get good clones out of it. A better way to clone is by buying one of those $250 cloners. I own a TurboKlone 48. With that I have been able to achieve 100% success with all 48 clones, and also been able to pop roots in about 5-10 days. If you leave the clones in the machine and add a little bit of Micronutes then you can have huge roots after 14 days.

    It's been years since I did cloning but I kept quite a few plants, cloning about 10 new 1's a day. Cloning will seriously save you weeks in a planting cycle. You really don't even need a routing compound, but it will greatly improve the success rate. I don't know if this is exactly right, but I would cut the plant and immediately dip it in the compound, and then directly into moist soil. It seemed to me that the less time I exposed the cut to the air, the better the success rate was. Just my thoughts.

      Only if you are cloning in soil... For professional aeroponics cloning, the cuttings hang in air and are kept moist by spray. In DWC cloners such as this one, cuttings are immersed in water, air is injected into the water to keep the roots from drowning.

      +mintheman7 So, that makes me wonder if that's the difference between the more expensive cloners and the $50 ones. Maybe the aeronponic ones cost more?

    Maybe do one on transferring the clones to soil? I've never had any problem getting them to the root phase but they usually bite the dust once I transfer them over to a pot of soil. I suppose from the shock.

  • @GilbertBigelow
    @GilbertBigelow 7 лет назад +1

    The roots on these plants show these the soil for this species should be deeper than the suggested 8" required for a raised bed.
    Also, transplanting these cuttings into the ground would require that the roots be buried carefully into a large enough hole to maintain the spread on the roots in a manner in which the roots are buried in layers of soil that would conform the roots to the shape in which they are formed as you see them now; or, else, the transplant would exhibit the same characteristics that a root bound plant would exhibit and the recovery time would take much longer than appreciated.
    I would really like to know the difference between the hydro set and direct burial!
    I will preform this test on my own them!

    i'd like to add that if you put weeping willow stems in with your cuttings, they will help your cuttings root faster and better. I didn't realize rooting plants was the same as cloning. I agree it seems rediculous to purchase such a device when you could fashion one from simple stuff you'd find around your house. I wonder how much better it is with the air stone action vs just rooting in still water with the magic of the weeping willow added.

    I also make one at home already had the pump which I use to make worm tea. My box is about the same size as in the vid. As for ph some plants dont care as I had a couple plants rooting at the beginning ph which was in the 8 plus range. Then later as I got the ph down in the 5.5 - 6.5 range others did better.

    Just a question though, I didn't quite get what kind of pump this uses you mentioned it creates a water flow inside but it is called oxyflow which makes me assume it uses an airation pump, so I'm a bit confused.

      I have this system and really like it. The pump just circulates the water so that it does not become stagnant. I recommend buying a separate air pump to aerate the water in addition to the water pump. It provides better results. IME

      JW Pookie tbh if you can grow soil you can grow with deep water culture(DWC) just go a little lighter with the nutrients and ph your water I thought the same thing then switched to DWC and never looked back all you need a a 5 gal bucket an air stone and pump and a net pot to fit the bucket and your plants will grow at least twice as fast and vibrant. Good luck

    If you wasn't getting any bubbles from the pump id suggest turning the cap on the air line. My guess is you should get bubbles like with aquarium pumps. It would also add more mist above the water line and would effect the cuttings more that wasn't submerged. Great video thou! =)

    • @WelcomeHome76
      @WelcomeHome76 10 лет назад +1

      cuttings need to be submerged for this system to work efficiently

    • @Nananah86
      @Nananah86 10 лет назад +1

      WelcomeHome76 It looks like some of them did well that was just above the water line. But my comment was more about how the pump should be sucking in air and making bubbles to agitate the water. That would force oxygen into the water and splash water into the upper section and onto the roots.

    • @DanaGould0
      @DanaGould0 10 лет назад +1

      Good point about turning the cap on the air line.
      A quick search for oxyClone on RUclips finds a video by the oxyClone company showing how to setup the oxyClone and the presenter mentions adjusting the airflow by opening the cap. You can hear the water bubbling as he adjusts the cap.

    What if you place the top part of the plant into the water to root? Would the plant grow with leaves upside down or would it just not going to root and die eventually, or would it be able to adjust and compensate appropriately to the upside down orientation (like a bubble in a bottle) and grow as a normal plant? Has anyone experimented with it?

    • @VgAce135
      @VgAce135 10 лет назад +1

      That would only happen if the rooting compound you are using was already contaminated. See what you would generally want to do is pour some of the rooting compound into a shot glass and then use that. Whatever you don't use you throw away. This was you do not cross contaminate your main supply of rooting compound.

      The cloner comes with a pump to agitate the water and keep it moving around in the tub, but you can "turbocharge" it by putting an air pump into the water pump and it will aerate the water much better than an air stone by itself.

    Isn't it kind of pointless to use any kind of rooting hormone in an aqua closet? Won't it just wash of quickly? Not being a smartass just asking.

    • @Grayswandiir
      @Grayswandiir 7 лет назад +1

      Not really. Some will stay on, and whatever doesn't gets circulated into the water and can still work. It's not as effective, but its still worth doing, in my experience. I can get roots from fresh cuttings in 3-4 days in a DIY aeroponic cloner with clonex.

      styx ga
      the rooting hormone will mix with the water and be recirculated and me splashed ,sprayed or be bubbled back onto the bare stem/cutting promoting roots....
      that's my 50pence worth.

    The rooting hormone washes off as soon as you put it in the water.

      +Josef Roesler But it's still in the water, so maybe does the job anyway. I wondered about that too, but someone left a comment that it actually works for them. Didn't say what kind they use. Maybe the powder would be more like to circulate in the water..?

    • @Josef_R
      @Josef_R 8 лет назад

      So you could just add it to the water.

    Dose your cloning reservoir with some compost/hydro tea and watch your roots explode plus keep pythium at bay.

    Dude you don't know how to use rooting powder. Never dip in the container, you contaminate the whole jar. Next shake off any excess powder, you don't need much.

    no I disagree - I cannot assembly this oxy cloner - there are so many pieces and none of the pictures match - it is so confusing. There is nothing easy about it. Your pictures for assembly are not great. You put this thing with this thing - that isn't how you explain something.

      +chemlover85 Oops, try again: I'm surprised to hear you say you've done it the same way and was wondering if I should do that or is there a product that would aid rooting but maybe be more water-soluble? Is that your preffered method, or something you do in a pinch. I've had lots of problems trying to clone with plugs - tried all the different varieties.
