I accidentally tripped across one of your pics - cowboy on a horse! wow! Since then I've been watching your videos and just love the drama you create. Love your clear, concise explanations. Thank you.
THANK YOU Joel.....longtime fan; love this channel; GREAT resource. I'd also like to add that in my experience the advantage of a modifier w/ silver interior is two-fold: it seems to be slightly more "efficient" for output, and it also gives you a contrastier/edgier type look IF not using diffusion. I've also realized another hack: If I line my softbox w/ alum. foil, the output is even greater- because nothing is lost thru the modifier's walls: Everything goes out the front face.
Hey Joel, nothing to be embarrassed about my friend. I have your beauty dish and it is amazing. The simplicity of getting it ready to shoot not to mention the quality of evenly distributed light that comes out of this design is amazing! Just want to let you know that man. Thanks for all your youtube videos too. I learned a lot from them 🙏🏻
I had the same hot spot issues with continuous led lights and soft boxes. There are many things about the beauty dish that other reviewers don't even consider, but you nailed it! Great review! Cheers 👍🍻
Hiya Joel - the Westscott Beauty Dish rocks! I use it with my Profoto B1s and to your point, easy set up, fantastic to transport, and awesome light. Love it!
While a giant silver interior soft box will be softer than a smaller white one, I've found that the silver ones are a bit more specular(producing more shine on the skin in the highlights) than the white interiors. It's not as noticeable as with a silver vs white bounce umbrella, since the light from a soft box still has to pass through diffusion material, but it's there.
Jimmy Hill yes he mentions white vs silver interior at 6:30 but as you said and I have noticed as well... there is a noticeable difference in the quality of light and some videos demo the difference.
Hello Joel, I like your photos and you make great videos, but today I have a question. This 16 Rod Softbox has absolutely nothing to do with a Beauty Dish (except the flat lid in the middle). Its shape is completely identical to a round softbox. It can not possibly have the characteristics of a beauty dish. I would be interested in pictures of the light and shadow of the thing.
Joel, I checked the link you supplied (NG) for that particular BD, I went to B&H on line and they a different one with your name on it. It that a new or modified version?
Humble yourself, your name is on that beauty dish I’m sure you had to work hard to get to that status. Many new and up coming photographers don’t have the equipment you own. Beside that your knowledge on lighting is vast remember you have viewers trying to understand and learn from you.
I have this modifier, and I love it. But watching this video made me love it a little bit less. What is the point of this video? Seemed like a lot of rambling to me.

Wow! Thanks so much!
I bought one a long time ago, and use it all the time.

A beauty dish with a difuser is just a softbox
Thanks for sharing

Thank you for being so honest!!!
I love that Beauty dish!! does it come with a grid?
Awesome video Joel, informative and entertaining.
Great antique camera props! How well do they work with the softbox?
I saw what your selling on line about beauty brushes bungle .it about software or is just books that are in d pack.
such a great resource, sir

Joel has serious misconceptions of how soft boxes and beauty dishes work. He needs to try something like a Mola setti to "get it"
@@shaolin95 scumbag troller.
@@shaolin95 Hi, just curious. Have you reached Joel's level of success?
thanks much for the info ... fyi; your westcott links do not work anymore- just goes to 404 error page
#educator period!
Thank you!
“Shed some light...”
You clever clever man!

I didi too but not on the FJWescott website

I like the quick modifiers, but, they all seem to suffer from the same telegraphing of the umbrella mechanism shadows through the diffusion.
ErixAudio719 you see the rods through the diffusion!? That would be interesting to note if true.
You never mentioned which kind of umbrella you used, quite confusing
I guess I'll stick with the Godox and other cheaper solutions. I don't use them a hundred times in a year!
I have this modifier, and I love it. But watching this video made me love it a little bit less. What is the point of this video? Seemed like a lot of rambling to me.
Jason Jamal Nakleh yes, I think demos would have helped make the points better vs talking head... but that is what RUclips has mostly become 🤷♂️
