@Vegesther Errrr but I've been attacked by the Time Devourer before, and have had to do White then Black magic to seal the Time Devourer's magic so I can finish the entire Chrono Cross sequence.

After playing Radical Dreamers i think i finally understand the book part of the ending and why Serge face is covered, his face being covered is a throwback to his Radical dreamers self we can safely conclude that he ends up with Kid,and not only that but he and Kid keep meeting each other through different worlds and realities always searching for each other to be together. It reminds me of Xenogears a bit, with how Elly and Fei keep going meeting each other through different lives and falling in love with each other
Still and forever will be a masterpiece. An RPG ahead of its time, from stunning music to a sickening gameplay and a unique storyline. They should remaster this. After all, it's one of the best.
The greed of people might ruin the remake of this masterpiece. How I wish I can live in another timeline, where people consider remaking this without thinking about profit or anything.
When I started playing this, to me it was just a game. However, as I progressed through it I began to see so much more than that. It was art. Even now it set a standard for future games that I will play, but so far its been difficult to find a game plot-wise that I enjoyed and loved as much as this one. I just love how in the end, Schala could possibly be talking to the player. Saying things like "Each and every one of us has a chance of becoming that one chosen life-form which inseminates a planet. Yes, it could be 'You'" and "But I'm sure we'll meet again, someday, you and I... Another place, another time. It's just that we might not realize that you are you and I am me..."

What? This is one of the worst endings ever! It's lines of text of worthless exposition on useless backgrounds, a review of the scenes in the game in black and white white the credits roll with an untranslated Japanese song with no subtitles, a few seconds of low-budget black and white video of a Japanese woman wearing a blonde wig in the middle of pedestrian traffic and then finally an FMV that only lasts for a couple seconds. The endings for the Final Fantasy games were far, far better.

I always take Serge, Kid, and Guile to this fight; it’s only right the amnesiac Magus, if only subconsciously, be one of the three who finally free his sister, along with the Chrono Trigger and Schala’s own daughter-clone.
I just hope Magus, somewhere, somehow realized his sister was finally released from the time devourer... that ending from Chrono Trigger in DS has my heart broken since then...

It would be amazing if the 3rd game was when they found each other and maybe the lengths she went through to find him caused some major crack in all time itself. Maybe Lavos was a sentient piece of a much more evolved thing created in another time. oh the possibilities. 😥
Dreginy Reacts I was actually going to respond and you beat me to the punch. I think just for the fact that the third game was to be called “Chrono Break” that NovaWolf’s potential plot theory probably isn’t all that far off.
Yes involving a new main protagonist with blonde or green hair and a 3 bladed weapon to keep the pattern of uniqueness the creators of the Chrono series went with. The 3rd MC would gain the ability to ”break” into different planes (2D,3D,4D) and later different times and dimensions to find both Chrono & serge to defeat the main conspirator in the domain of the higher plane, their “God/creator”. The plot would involve the new protagonist on his on quest within his world solving all of its problems until it gets to a point where the bad endings get involved with his world and he must join forces with Chrono & serge to take down the evils prevailing. Chrono would need to stop Cross’s bad endings (General Kid,fate taking over earth, lynx taking over earth, fighting the time devourer and even all 6 dragon gods) and serge tackling trigger’s bad endings (defeating magus who took over the world,Lavos, etc.) along with the newest main character. The final bosses would include The newest MC,Serge & Crono siding with Magus,Fate,Lynx, etc. to take down the creator who wants to wipe out all 2D & 3D worlds.
So much potential just left idle. With the new consoles they definitely have the processing power to make a beautiful ending to this series. Guess we leave it to our imagination.
@@mjf8897 but they all risked it on audiences that would have loved or hated that work and majority of the time their games were loved but trying to make more and better games became too difficult
And then you wonder if Magus, the Queen, the gurus and everyone else spoke in an Aussie accent as well. Maybe the accent separates them from the Earthbound ones?
@@Pikachu-qr4yb you need to dig more, its no clone, its due time travel. Shala was supposedly lost after Zeal kingdom demise, and Magus went on to look for her.
Ok so just remind myself, kid is Shasa Zeal from chrono trigger, got literally stuck from time, and Kid is not a clone but a copy of her. Then Serge's father tried to saved from poison from a panther by going to the dead sea, and it was i forgot what happened that let to it but Lynx is Serge's father that was being processed by Fate as parasites to awaken the dark dragon beast that wants to sustain the world. Is that overall the story? Please tells me if I got it wrong
When I played CC, I didn't care. But over time, time I've grown to appreciate it. It tells a dark, philosophical and thought-provoking story about racism. Also, is free will a possibilty anymore? The battle system is second to none. Same for the the soundrack.
TheTerrance1's idea for Chrono Break. Because there was never supposed to be just one universe/timeline, all of time begins to die. The New Player Character, Mugen, must travel to each timeline, recruit allies (both new, and fan favorites from Trigger and Cross) to not only re-divide the timeline, but destroy THE TIME DEVOURER'S ENTIRE SPECIES!
Entirely false lol but you’re allowed to have your opinion. I will say, most people who played FF7 and never played any of the other games or content that was created, didn’t get the full story. A lot was lost in translation, there were gaps in the story. I spent decades literally not fully understanding the storyline fully. The remake is significantly more detailed and I’m looking forward to the next installment. But let’s not mince words, RPGs would be what they are today without the pioneers that created Final Fantasy. And FF7 is legendary.
Took me no less than 10 years and multiple playthroughs to discover the good ending, and even then it was by pure dumb luck! I remember noticing that all the elements have been played sequentially during this boss fight, so I figured "meh, might as well add the useless Chrono Cross to the sequence". Definitely worth the wait! 😁
it was, look up one of the endings in chrono trigger. this takes place YEARS after the events. merle (the purple hair nerdy girl) finds kid and takes her in. and sets up an orphanage. pretty much cross is events after all the time manipulation messed shi up. cross is largely schrodingers cat. where in 1q time line serge died. and the other timeline he lived, and how each timeline got affected by it. while trigger was finding the events that triggered the collapse in 1999 with larvos.
This comment is only said by salty trigger fanboys who wanted another rinse and repeat sequel and are made chrono cross was actual unique game with a well written story and gameplay something you Chrono trigger fanboys couldn’t fathom having. It’s a masterpiece not cause it’s a “sequel” to trigger it’s one in-spite of being a sequel.
Thank you so much! Lavos used yellow element Thunderstorm attack and then I used all level 1 elements in the order till Serge used the Chrono Cross element attack. And boom! I got the best ending! In the New Game +, I got the ending where Kid kills Lynx and becomes the new general - General Kid - instead of Viper or Lynx. I think that's called The Acacian Emprie ending. This ending is my favorite!
Okay, obviously that ending is cheesy and corny as hell now. But that monologue where Kidd thanks me for just being me. Bringing hope back. That shit hit me HARD when I was a kid.
I would like to see how all the characters would look like now 18 years later. Fargo would probably be retired and Pierre would be in a mid life crisis lol :P
they are not chrono msrle and lucca, they are ecchoes from something that took theyr child form and blame you for being the reason theyr effort was in vain
i didn't get this ending because i didn't know the 7 element colors had to be in a *specific* order. I had all of them and used Chrono Cross as the last one, and nothing happened. Ended up beating Lavos after another 5-10 minutes of just beating on him and then got the bad ending.
THIS IS NO ENDING IMO. there's 45 characters! what happens, oh it all just didn't really happen. oh , ok real creative! should of been 8 characters and an actual ending. and TONS of dual techs while we're at it... Biggest videogame disappointment ever for me!
yeah very disappointing. it's like final fantasy spirits within where you can put any name for the game/movie and see it clearly had nothing to do with the source
Feel the same! How do you establish a meaningful story if the characters are nothing more than set pieces? Sidelining Magus was the worst bit, next to Schala being shoehorned in at the last second. Only to be saved by a bunch of randoms who don't even know who she is.
all life exists to be food for other life. all life has a chance to be that one chosen life form perhaps.. but once that is accomplished, you are the sum total of what you have eaten. which for lavos, was all possible realities. all possible universes. everyone who ever could exist. he was everyone. including you. and now you are him because you ate him. what does that say about the universe now?
Such an emotional true end to the Chrono series... or so I think. Just like in Chrono Trigger, it's hard saying goodbye to your friends and seeing that credits roll, you know SquareSoft/SquareEnix has touched your heart. Please SquareEnix, please create more Chrono games, or just remaster Chrono Trigger/ Chrono Cross. I need more of these types of JRPGs, not Final Fantasy. Please... (Hey don't get me wrong, but Final Fantasy is good, just not after 7.) And Square, people will love a remaster. Lavos beckons... *cue Lavos' theme*
Tyler Chenoweth Oh God a 7 fanboy. Do we not know by now Final fantasy 2 is the worst in the series? 3 had forgettable characters and no real character development or a great story for that matter. Ff9,10 and 12 are excellent games. 13 trilogy is a hit and miss but not so bad as ppl blow it up to be. 15 was disappointing...
This game is so jarring. The music and visuals are just so perfect, but the story and the dialogue are completely rubbish. Makes me want to like it and cringe so hard at the same time.
One really have to wonder what the live action sections of the credits were supposed to mean. Maybe that Kid ended in the future somehow, looking for Serge? Or just a reincarnation of her. Because I doubt that had anything to do with Chrono Break, but...
Chrono Cross, one of the most compelling, convoluted, detailed, underrated, greatest, and misunderstood JRPGs of all time. People come to this game and think it should cater to their own opinions on how the game should go and end. Good example being they want direct tie ins for Trigger as if the original cast never died and other such nonsense like clear cut endings and nothing left ambiguous. As an intellectual I enjoyed how this game took me for an unpredictable ride only to leave me off at an ending that, tho positive, is also unpredictable. CC set my incredibly high standards for JRPGs and anime in general. I will not watch or play any game that does t require some thought to understand the story.
this game is not as perfect as chrono trigger, its have some flaws, but beside that it is good, too good indeed, that i think it could be called the greatest JRPG of all time, right next to chrono trigger :v
The only real flaw it has is that they never implemented the Magus portion of the story which would have been a complete mindblow and perfect throwback.
Netflix should make a movie out of this. I mean that would be so fricking cool! After 15 years of playing it I still have melancholy. Movie would be to die for
Chrono Cross was one of those... bizarre games that try to tie into a better game, but with poor funding and even weaker backing. I played through it and could feel the logic of the game just collapsing around itself. They even *forgot the lore of the original Chrono Trigger* , so instead of fixing it in Chrono Cross, they went to Chrono Trigger, and added a "super ultimate omega hyper turbo final boss EX". It just makes me wonder if they actually charted this stuff out, or went off the cuff.
idk how many people realize this but the live action ending is clearly inspired by end of evangelion. Noone can dispute this either considering xenogears, by mostly the same guys, is just "evangelion: the game"
fuck final fantasy vii remake, this is the one that deserves a true remake from the ground up, and also chrono trigger but to me, cross was a much better game
I got this ending by accident on my first playthrough 😁. And I know noone would believe me because I have no proof. But I can swear on anyone. Regardless, this game and ending was AMAZING.
Petition for Chrono Cross 2. NOW! Or call it Chrono Rift! Plot Schala wants to find Serge, and some shit wants to stop her. Ending she does find him but it's even sadder than CC.
There is spinx boss in earth dragon island iirc that can only be defeated with correct element after it give you series of question. Also the terrain change/elemental change while fighting the dragon god gives you clues about the order.
how am i suppose to know the correct order of chrono cross? the tune all sound the same for me... if the game just say 'to free schala you must use elements with this color order: yellow, red, green, blue, black, white and end with chrono cross' that would be sooo much easier especially when you dont know english back then...
For me the final boss really took away from the game i build my team as best as i could and the final boss was a complete push over =( If they make a re-release of this someday please add optional super powerful bosses at least.
you mean the dragon god? that's the game's final boss... freeing schala is to complete the story line properly.... although not a good ending, you could just kill the time devourer... which shouldn't be possible...
+John Nelson killing the Time Devourer takes time, and is possible on the first play through. but there is a "super boss" in the Yellow Dragon's alternative dimension if you are strong enough to kill him, or go along with his riddles to get a different drop.
You know what's always bugged me? Who is that girl that dressed up as Schala for the real-life footage? Where is she today? How is she? I've tried looking into it, but it seems she's vanished off the map. Also, is that Tokyo...?
What are the scenes with the chain link fences and high-rise glass office complexes intended to imply? They seem so out of place with the rest of the game when those were never accessible areas on any playthrough. Were those of the future Chronopolis came from?
It seems to show that characters from the world of chrono are reincarnated into other worlds, like ours. It's a visual representation of all of the dialog of Kid/Schala saying "we will meet again, even if we don't remember who we are."

something got "lost" when the next generation started.
The risk creators took was lost since they were afraid of losing their idea to a sea of voices stating why it's hard to understand
@@taco2215 there was so much care and character to those SNES PS1 rpgs.
@@mjf8897 but they all risked it on audiences that would have loved or hated that work and majority of the time their games were loved but trying to make more and better games became too difficult
@@taco2215 they focused too much on the way the games looked - meanwhile those games aged soooooo poorly (ps2/gamecube)
True but mainly ps1 only a handful of snes jrpgs were good mainly dragon quest and the mana series and the last couple of final fantasy
the moment you realize "Kid" was actually Schala "Kid" Zeal...
And then you wonder if Magus, the Queen, the gurus and everyone else spoke in an Aussie accent as well. Maybe the accent separates them from the Earthbound ones?
Nope it's not her. It's a clone of hers. Also Schala never had that middle name in CT so it was impossible to make that connection
@@Pikachu-qr4yb you need to dig more, its no clone, its due time travel. Shala was supposedly lost after Zeal kingdom demise, and Magus went on to look for her.
@@SpiritofHardRock it literally says it’s her clone in the game
Ok so just remind myself, kid is Shasa Zeal from chrono trigger, got literally stuck from time, and Kid is not a clone but a copy of her. Then Serge's father tried to saved from poison from a panther by going to the dead sea, and it was i forgot what happened that let to it but Lynx is Serge's father that was being processed by Fate as parasites to awaken the dark dragon beast that wants to sustain the world. Is that overall the story? Please tells me if I got it wrong
The best game in the world. Please Square listen to the fans! Make a Remake of Chrono Trigger and Cross!
Facts such a unique experience
Well you got your wish with a remaster of Chrono cross lol
TheTerrance1
Chrono cross and legend of dragoon were better than ff7 imo
Thank You!
yes!
Way better. But it doesn't mean ff7 is a bad game tho
Sales speak volumes.. and ff7 outsold both combined.
I LOVE this game...seriously
Grobyc was a gangster
a gangster ahead of his timeline lol
Everything is alright now
When video games where made to be fun and not just farm money!
TIL I missed the entire point of this game! I don’t think I’ve ever seen this ending!
2019 and I'm still trying to inseminate my planet.
Pretty good! Keep trying
Idk what I expected from this ending but it wasn't Schala talking about inseminating planets
Weird right?
Took me no less than 10 years and multiple playthroughs to discover the good ending, and even then it was by pure dumb luck! I remember noticing that all the elements have been played sequentially during this boss fight, so I figured "meh, might as well add the useless Chrono Cross to the sequence". Definitely worth the wait! 😁
If this game was completely seperated from the fact that it was supposed to be a sequel to Chrono Trigger, it would have been a masterpiece.
it was, look up one of the endings in chrono trigger. this takes place YEARS after the events. merle (the purple hair nerdy girl) finds kid and takes her in. and sets up an orphanage. pretty much cross is events after all the time manipulation messed shi up.
cross is largely schrodingers cat. where in 1q time line serge died. and the other timeline he lived, and how each timeline got affected by it.
while trigger was finding the events that triggered the collapse in 1999 with larvos.
@@azadalamiq I lost it at "merle (the purple hair nerdy girl)". Who the f*ck was that?
It already is a masterpiece loser
This comment is only said by salty trigger fanboys who wanted another rinse and repeat sequel and are made chrono cross was actual unique game with a well written story and gameplay something you Chrono trigger fanboys couldn’t fathom having. It’s a masterpiece not cause it’s a “sequel” to trigger it’s one in-spite of being a sequel.
@@azadalamiq You're thinking of Lucca. Marle is the princess. Seems like you played Cross, but it seems you didn't play Trigger.
WAIT FOR SCHALA, HER HAIR IS PURPLE IN CHRONO TRIGGER NOT BLONDE!!!!!! :0
I must admit that this game is very sea lover, very fantastic, but addicting so that wasting time us too much
The game that taught me about alternate timelines and the consequences of time traveling way before Rick and Morty
6:15 Kiara, essa mensagem é pra você 😘🌸
I would like to see how all the characters would look like now 18 years later. Fargo would probably be retired and Pierre would be in a mid life crisis lol :P
i dont remember seeing chrono marle and lucca on the beach in this game ever. did i miss something?
Idk how to trigger them, but they tell you what happened after Chrono trigger and some stuff about the mc of this game
they are not chrono msrle and lucca, they are ecchoes from something that took theyr child form and blame you for being the reason theyr effort was in vain
i didn't get this ending because i didn't know the 7 element colors had to be in a *specific* order.
Final Fantasy, as a series, was overrated, Tyler Chenoweth.
So are you giving credit for FFI, IV, and VI?
Loved this game. Had it day one release
This game is so jarring. The music and visuals are just so perfect, but the story and the dialogue are completely rubbish. Makes me want to like it and cringe so hard at the same time.
99.98% For 100% you needed Magus/Janus.
puub d that was chrono trigger.
@@TheBonkleFox Nah, Magus was Guile in this dimension. You bring Magus and Glenn to the final fight for thematic resolution
0:59 ooh... a little no music boss fight? pretty dope.
I want then to remake this game so it looks like the art style or chrono trigger
Yeah, this is just ugly
No
ah yes. chrono cross -7 I remember I did this too.
There is Crono in the back. Cool.
As an intellectual" lol. A little you got a little pretentious there buddy. I liked the game a lot tho
Netflix should make a movie out of this. I mean that would be so fricking cool! After 15 years of playing it I still have melancholy. Movie would be to die for
No thanks
Chrono Cross was one of those... bizarre games that try to tie into a better game, but with poor funding and even weaker backing. I played through it and could feel the logic of the game just collapsing around itself.
They even *forgot the lore of the original Chrono Trigger* , so instead of fixing it in Chrono Cross, they went to Chrono Trigger, and added a "super ultimate omega hyper turbo final boss EX". It just makes me wonder if they actually charted this stuff out, or went off the cuff.
Nathaniel Holm "don't criticize the games i like :("
Wtf are you even talking you sound like a moron and cross was clearly way better then trigger
Who was Magus?
The most beaituful final boss ending ever!
This boss is sort of like Giegue from Mother 1. You beat him by doing something specific.
One of my fave rpg game on ps1 and also legend of legaia
It's strange how buffie was the name chosen by the player. Course when I played the game my brother called kid buffie.
idk how many people realize this but the live action ending is clearly inspired by end of evangelion.
Noone can dispute this either considering xenogears, by mostly the same guys, is just "evangelion: the game"
fuck final fantasy vii remake, this is the one that deserves a true remake from the ground up, and also chrono trigger but to me, cross was a much better game
Chrono cross ftw :) finally got this ending after persisting
The graphics are so good! where are you playing it? its not like i see in the emulator... amazing game! very meaningful ending!
It is played on the emulator.
BuffMaister Cool! then i'm not using the emulator full graphic power! thanks bud!

But... even Yu Yevon had music... wow.
Que final más épico, a mi se me hace que squarenix son un montón de pendejos porque no le sacan un remake a esta joya epica
Lo son
square surely love to put characters in a pedestrian crossing huh? KH and TWEWY for example
0:08 when I first played this I didn't remember Crono was at the Beach?
I got it my first try. Schala is amazing.
Please continue the story. This is hearbreaking game, we want kid and serge to get married hahalol
I think Schala Kid Zeal already married.
Kid the playable char just a clone.
Kid and Serge married, as revealed in the Chrono Cross artbook, Missing Piece. www.chronocompendium.com/images/wiki/6/69/Weddingsaris.png
Okay what the story again
1:17 This combo...
How do you guys know how to use the chrono cross the right way? I don't know why I'm curious about it.
Hideo Kidzima, rest.
So kid was schyla and Glenn was frog
I just finished the game recently but didnt get this ending. Seeing this ending make me regret
The ending theme was beyong perfect.
Mitsuda = God.
I forget which NPC or event Clues you in what order to cast the elements in?
The GameFAQ event
There is spinx boss in earth dragon island iirc that can only be defeated with correct element after it give you series of question. Also the terrain change/elemental change while fighting the dragon god gives you clues about the order.
Thank you so very much
how am i suppose to know the correct order of chrono cross? the tune all sound the same for me... if the game just say 'to free schala you must use elements with this color order: yellow, red, green, blue, black, white and end with chrono cross' that would be sooo much easier especially when you dont know english back then...
Good question! I've always wondered what the blue fuck pictures of 21st century architecture were doing at the end!
Kid is in our world searching for us, the player.
I loved this game, but to me they didn’t develop the characters enough.
