This is actually a really nice encapsulation of the band's sound in 5 songs. I think this might be the best quality footage of GBV ever filmed, this is truly top notch stuff
i agree it's great quality sound, but so are some other shows where they play at festivals. specifically, the Oslo 2011 is a great example. ruclips.net/video/PtdwRHYEmbY/видео.html
Heard "The Unsinkable Fats Domino" by GBV late one night on the radio while driving home and was just blown away. It was like the combined second coming of the Beatles intertwined with The Who to my ears. I have been hooked ever since and with their insanely immense catalog, I'm still discovering fantastic songs years later. How does Pollard write so much great stuff? I love the fact that everybody in this band just wants to Rock...forget the record labels and the images that go with it all. These guys embody the TRUE POWER of MUSIC! Rock on Guys!
Best shows of my life, countdown: 5. Tom Waits - Cleveland, 1987, open bar! 4. King Crimson - Cleveland, 1984, 2nd row, right in front of Robert Fripp 3. The League of Crafty Guitarists - Cleveland, 1991, in a tiny basement club on the near-east side. 2. Elvin Jones Quartet - Toronto, CA, 1994 in a small club that was packed to the doors, and overflowing 1. Guided by Voices - Oberlin, OH - 2010, First Classic line-up Tour, Halloween Night, Robert P.'s birthday!!!
Man, I love these guys. Long time fan, multiple shows, chats and laughs. Brilliant. First heard them in 1997. Kept me happy in Bosnia and sane in Afghanistan. Just saying. Wicked band, wicked guys, in whatever lineup.
Rad! Finally a bass player that puts in those little fills on this song! I think it has been over 20 years since I have seen a live version where the bass doesn't just play through the notes..
Fantastic set. Compare this to the Oslo 2011 set mentioned in the comments below; breaking up the re-formed 'classic' line-up was a bummer in some respects but ultimately a great move by Bob for the sake of the band. This incarnation of GBV is incredible and just goes from strength to strength.
Saw them in S.F. about fifteen years ago, got a kick out of the beer cooler on stage. They seem to get better, or he has a stellar lineup of players now.
Kinda makes me wanna stand in my city centre with a huge placard stating im guided by voices ,and stopping randoms saying excuse me sir /madam or sir and madam have you heard the good news ,you havent well its guided by voices and unky bob is my savior
uber9000 I bet as David is giving a voiceover to some BBC documentary on penguins as some guy lies in the snow filming an egg exit he wishes he was onstage drinking tequila with GBV and singing some tunes
His white hair looks very nice. I’m not a big go-natural kid of guy, but it works well on his head. Maybe in no small part because the rest of him is upright and solid, and once he gets the mike in his hand he’s energetic and youthful.
Doug Gillard is a criminally underrated guitarist.
You got that right!
Also love Doug's work with the underrated Nada Surf.

The Greatest Band That Ever Lived
Hands down
Pretty much.
Along with the replacements.
@@shashsrivas Big Star, baby.
Besides The Clash. And the Replacements.

Thank you very much! As fans of the band we're very happy with how it turned out as well!
Great except for the fact that they completely missed bassist Mark Shues signature jump at the into to ‘Cut Out Witch’

Somewhere in an alternate universe, Game of Pricks is a Number 1 Hit.
My favourite song of all time, idk why is just structured perfectly

Brent Wilburn Got hooked when Vampire On Titus and Bee Thousand came out.. Mid 90’s..
Got hooked on The Final Conclusion concert DVD.
Well said
Brent GBV is the American Beatles and the American Who....Garage style of course.
@@bookboy7007 you nailed it. I’ve always said Robert Pollard was the Paul McCartney of indie rock. His sheer output of great music is otherworldly.

LOL Tom Waits at an open bar! They would have had to carry me out of there.
After all these years GBV's performances somehow keep getting better and better, and this video captures it well.
new line up sounds better live than the previous ones, and thats not to say the others didnt sound fantastic.
Seeing Bob up close with his age spots, yet still belting out the lyrics to "I am a Scientist", hits me hard in the feels
Robert Pollard is such a legend, his birthday is on Halloween!
"I'll climb up on your house, weep to water the trees."
One of my all-time favorite lyrics. Bob is so damn good.
Man, I love these guys. Long time fan, multiple shows, chats and laughs. Brilliant. First heard them in 1997. Kept me happy in Bosnia and sane in Afghanistan. Just saying. Wicked band, wicked guys, in whatever lineup.
Great band. Great front man.
Thanks for this, Husker Du brought me here .. GBV seems to be very much alive and louder than ever!
Huge Husker Du fan. Got both bands in my top 5. Not in order, with The Who, Yhe Stooges and the New York Dolls.
The Beatles should be at Mt. Rushmore of rock.
Bob still has such a charismatic stage presence, it's amazing to watch.
One of the most prolific songwriters of all time.
Awesome band. Awesome gig. Remember seeing them twenty odd years ago in Melbourne Australia. One of the best gigs I ever went to. Still awesome.
Loved many versions of Guided by Voices and have to say that this current one is pretty swell...
Rad! Finally a bass player that puts in those little fills on this song! I think it has been over 20 years since I have seen a live version where the bass doesn't just play through the notes..
Lance Forney what song? There are five in this clip
I really miss greg demos
@@SiliconMolybdenumNitrogen Game of Pricks
Long live rockathon!
well, this is pure nostalgia for me. so much ambivalence seeing aging rockers continue to rock
Energy
Strong vocals👍👍👍👍
Very highly rated group of music makers these Jeff Beck Jim Page and so on all big fans ! Terrific group.

Truth. This is the sequel to Oslo. All you need is Pollard. What a band.
utterly brilliant
You guys are awesome!!! You rock!! 🙌 excited for your online show. That’s how I found out about you. THANK YOU! 👍
GBV Forever!
rally boys tho. goosebumps.
Absolutely. Got me chills. Incredible.
Incredible
Man, they sound SO FUCKING GOOD!
They started low-fi. I can't wait to meet them again. (The guy from the 2002 Lexington, Kentucky show)
Damn, this is the best sound mix of all their live vids on RUclips!
Everyone is so happy.
Good drummer.
He's a beast man, hits really consistently hard
it's a shame the rest of the band is sloppy. Bob should find some replacements for the bass player and rhythm guitarist
Great band!... great memories
Happy drummer and happy dads in the audience!
Excellent sound and video quality! Too bad it's only five songs.
Saw them in S.F. about fifteen years ago, got a kick out of the beer cooler on stage. They seem to get better, or he has a stellar lineup of players now.
God damn that's good.
0:32 - GBV shakes the entire world!
1:57 - oh LOOK!!! GIRLS!!!!!!
Can't wait to see them at the Riot Fest! It's gonna be my first time!
captaintifany that was a great show
love this
Too good, really.
I saw them do "cut-out witch" at Bricktown Live in OKC. This sounds better 24 years later.
GBV forever and a day
la única certeza con esta banda: lo mejor está por venir
F. Murray Abraham is my favorite guitarist.
Thanks so much for this!
Oh, yeah, the music is great.
I wanna start a band called Robert Pollard’s Liver. 😜
Robert Pollard's liver needs to be dedicated to science.
Right on.
Kinda makes me wanna stand in my city centre with a huge placard stating im guided by voices ,and stopping randoms saying excuse me sir /madam or sir and madam have you heard the good news ,you havent well its guided by voices and unky bob is my savior
Amazing band!
I think that's the most enunciation I've ever heard on "I am a lost soul; I shoot myself with rock and roll."
I went there thinking the Tom Robinson Band was playing. I stayed.
fucking legends
Rally Boys! Hot damn that was great.
Robert Pollard has written more great songs than your favorite songwriter ever will. He writes three songs a day
I believe he writes more than three.
"And two of them are good." - Robert Pollard
There’s quality over quantity, and then there’s quality in quantity in Bob’s case
Gillard is morphing into Christopher Walken
F Murray Abraham!
Bobby Bare Jr.!
supercool!
I wish I could teach as well as Bob.
Why is David Attenborough fronting an absolutely bangin band
uber9000 I bet as David is giving a voiceover to some BBC documentary on penguins as some guy lies in the snow filming an egg exit he wishes he was onstage drinking tequila with GBV and singing some tunes
Bruce Willis plays drums in GBV now????
GILLARD BARE VOICES!
Kevin March is a goddamn powerhouse
Uncle Bob!
3:59 Stefan from The World of Dust and Tiny Room Records fuckin vibin
Who gave THIS thumbs down? I know taste is subjective, but COME ON!!!!
Doug Gillard looks like Terence Stamp. Fact
🥃🚬💯💜
Why so brief?

the lamest crowd of all time. No crowd comes close to the Dayton Fans.
Blah blah blah you boring turd
This finally makes me understand the glory of this band. I am a scientist, what a song! But it's all power pop r&r punk as God meant it to be.
