    I’m a military officer and Im going be honest it’s not what you think it is, most pilots can’t wait to leave the service. Mostly because you’re an officer first then a pilot. Also many pilot want to leave because of pay the airline pay is very lucrative with seniority so many try to leave as soon as possible to get their time.

      @@jonasbaine3538For one thing, from what I have read, military pilots especially fighter pilots don’t get that much flight time for the most part, so building hours can take forever if one is in the military. Additionally, as someone else already mentioned, in the military, one is an officer before one is a pilot. The needs of the military will always come first.

    A lot of people recommend going into the military to build flight hours. It’s not as good of an option as it sounds. Not only would I not recommend the military in this train wreck that the DoD has become, but while you might come out with all your flight hours and great training, that’s a 4-6 year commitment and a lot of that time won’t even be flying.

    If you’re a pilot and you want to join the military a little piece of advice: try the reserves or guard. That way you can fly for whatever airline and take some time off a couple days a month flying whatever military aircraft. I do not recommend active duty military flying because you don’t fly that often. When you’re in the reserves or guard, you have to keep flying a couple days a month to stay proficient on your airframe, all the while making a good living flying in the airlines.

    If you want to fly, you had better look at the needs of the military _before_ you sign the dotted line. If you do it correctly, then you get trained without going $100k or more in debt. It's better to fly multi-crew planes than single seat fighters. Don't be combative in the flight deck. Luck and timing are critical to the outcome you get out both the military and flying.

  • @_bellatrix_potens_-bps-8366
    @_bellatrix_potens_-bps-8366 2 месяца назад

    Two different things though. I guess it matters what type you flew as well in the Air Force. A lot easier to transition if you are flying multi engines. Civil is obviously extremely respectable but it’s like being a bus driver compared to a fast jet pilot like a Euro fighter or F-15. Most people here in England join the RAF with top degrees or the ability to get one but choose to go straight in. They could go and work in the city and be on 6 figures but choose to get paid around $30,000 to be pilots instead.
    Because that’s all they ever wanted to be. We probably have way less military planes per capita in the uk than in the USA. So the ones that do fly them, would do the job for free if there was no salary. Sure work is work after a while, but they aren’t in there to train to be civil aviators eventually.
    They are genuinely fulfilling their dreams and are the best people for the job. They have standardised aptitude testing and evaluations that last for days at RAF Cranwell. There are hundreds of top quality A+ grade applicants not accepted as they only have so many places to applicants. Don’t get me wrong, many are disillusioned when they leave, but also have no regrets too if you know what I mean. Im sure all their anecdotes would be from RAF life even after they come out.
    But that’s everywhere now, the disillusionment. Because we are more connected to other cultures. So when told to bomb crap out of wherever, it’s not as simple as doing your duty. Because people are waking up that to do their duty as a human being is first and foremost actually. Even as an individual. If it’s justified, they will do the job and insist. But if it isn’t, then people are starting to get annoyed. And rightly so. It’s not cowardice. It’s mercy. They know that UK and US aircraft losses will be minimal if any, compared to the typical belligerents we fight against, so it’s not about being scared of combat or anything.
