It happens accidently. The director lost the film cartridge spools with the performances of the other members in 1971/1972. He just saved the Nick Mason film cartridge spools....
You know you're beating the sh*t out of the drums when the stick flies out of your hand! You know you're a master when you reach for a replacement without losing the beat! Brilliant 👏
In 1969 I was in my first year of college when I heard the blasting scream of "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" coming from down the hall of my dorm. I've been hooked on Pink Floyd from that moment on! Thanks for the memory!
Back in the 60's, and 70's - there was no youtube, no internet, no DVDs, no MTV and no hint how important the recording and creation of these videos would eventually be. Sure PF was big and important, but it's not like these were played regularly on television.. We are so blessed that they were made...
The world media belongs to the Beatles owners. And the Beatles only became something after they stealing PF's ideas and creations and were totally influenced by PF. They managed to hide until today. If there was no internet, the people would not have access to any of this. So the world media boycott the PF until today.
Epic song and epic drum performance by Nick Mason - especially at 05:00 when his stick breaks and he scrambles to get a new one. Just out of this world.
No, he didn't "scramble". Shit happens; broke or lost stick, he just moved on. Many a guitarist can adapt for a bit with a broken string, too. Experience. Professionalism.
Nick might be the best pocket drummer that has ever lived. His phrasing is unparalleled and his dynamics have always been exactly what a song needs. He is truly a living legend.
+Johnny Ford A musician who truly understood the purpose of serving the song. Honestly all of Floyd were masterful at it. It's the reason why they're so damn powerful.
You obviously like him but please thats a big over the top. The problem with Mason is that he mainly played on the beat, very rarely looking for those off beat accents to just jazz and swing things up a bit.
top 5. that clearly all you can name. He would not be on many lists if they existed. He was a tasteful team player with average skills for the time. top 5 lllllooooolllll just stupid
for those of you who don't know the reason that the camera is on Nick for most of this song is because out there filming when they got back to do editing they realized that some of the footage had gone missing. all they really had for this song was Nick playing the drums and not much else. so that's what they showed with some lava flows in other footage of Pompeii and things like that
I remember playing this song in my 1st car back in the 70's. I was travelling up the NE extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike at 55mph when it started. Half way into the song , I was doing 85 and didn't realize until then. lol.
i dedicate this theme to a very good girl friend of mine from my childhood.Sara, hope you like it,because its one of my favourite Pink Floyd themes and i know you enjoy their work too.Pink Floyd songs are the soundtrack to our childhood, remember? (thank you, too, for sharing this video,Bruno Calderon)
When I was like 14 or so… I caught the BBC production of the Floyd live from Earl’s circa 1974. Managed to record it completely on a Maxell Metal 90 cassette tape. That was my first trip into the gooooood Floyd rides. I had an AWESOME time in the 80’s. Bout 54 now… give’r taaake. 😏
According to Nick Mason's book Inside Out, a reel of film shot of this song went missing, so the director and editor had to improvise with what they had.
Good for you. I bet for you.. Concert of a lifetime. I wish I was there at my hero Gary Moore concert . But never got the Chance..... Cause Gary Died prematurely in 2011.😢
echoes is my favorite song of all time, hands down. people say darkside was their first truly great work. i disagree. i think it was meddle because of this song and echoes.
Kevin, I would actually go back a bit further to "alan's psychedelic breakfast" , however, I agree that One of and Echoes are two on my most favorite pieces of music ever .......
When you listen to them back to back - you can spot the similarities between Echoes and Darkside. Infact,, I think, Echoes may have been the Demo for Darkside (for want of a better word). After Echoes, they certainly knew the musical direction they were heading towards.
It's The Nick Mason Show --- with special guest, Nick Mason.
It happens accidently. The director lost the film cartridge spools with the performances of the other members in 1971/1972. He just saved the Nick Mason film cartridge spools....
Bit like the Gary Neville Podcast?
The whole Pompeii footage is epic.
Pink Floyd always seemed to be 1000 years ahead of everyone else.
The best comment!
Well, at least 100!
That's because they are light years ahead.
Yes you are
Yes you are
I Love Pink Floyd...
Ifo
Gawd!!!i keep coming back to this, watching Mason and Gilmore . Amazing
Nick Mason is great
Great to see Nick Mason, who always kept the beat of Pink Floyd as the animal drummer he was.❤️
Always was the heartbeat of Pink Floyd ❤️❤️❤️
Saw him live two months ago. He's still an animal.
And as a true great artist once he looses one stick he keeps going and pulls another
architect of beat
Mason looks pissed throughout this vid
Compare that to what he does during the Pulse DVD.
You know you're beating the sh*t out of the drums when the stick flies out of your hand!
You know you're a master when you reach for a replacement without losing the beat!
Brilliant 👏
Nick Mason = Pink Floyd Drumming God!!!
Pink Floyd is the best and most enduring band that has ever been
Nick Mason is one of my favorite drummers....he makes it look so easy
It is easy.
One of the best bass lines, ever

Looks like he let go of it.
Best on the planet
Es mi favorito, d verdad!
Without fucking Digital effects! Old School Skills!
several film reels went missing immediately after shooting, this explains why this video includes almost exclusively shots of Nick Mason
That, and the fact that he basically leads this dong
Song*
davide chiappetta where did you find this info?

Nick's drumming is really good in this song
Nick might be the best pocket drummer that has ever lived. His phrasing is unparalleled and his dynamics have always been exactly what a song needs. He is truly a living legend.

Impresive | Impresionante
More than 44 years ago and still gives me the chills.
A pure work of up most art. They successfully delivered a masterpiece that inspired many for generations to come. Including myself.
The recovery of Nick losing his drumstick (at 4:59) is absolutely redonkulous.
CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THIS VIDEO!!
That bass is awesome tingles up and down my spine
Happy birthday Nick🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
The freeze frame of Nick and David at the end, it's almost like David Gilmour's expression is saying "Damn, he really just did that."
Any dance band of today would be proud of this track .. Floyd at their peak ..
awesome drum solo.....!!!
Always great to see Nick Mason's underrated work! Top 5 drummers in the world! LEGEND!!
You obviously like him but please thats a big over the top. The problem with Mason is that he mainly played on the beat, very rarely looking for those off beat accents to just jazz and swing things up a bit.

That is like the most massive and dirty bass sound I have ever heard!
None more massive...
Roger Waters one of his best
can only think novoselic's bass on negative creep at paramount is heavier, else then that this is the shit. Roger waters underrated on the instrument
Right?! Wtf?! 🤯
Have ya. Heard of lemmy you lot
I don't understand how anyone could give this a thumbs down?
Audio quality.
Epic! Loosing his stick at 5:00, but continues rockin the drums like hell!!!
Incredible drum work!
This is one of the best music ever create! Perfect! For me is perfect!

Mason very underrated drummer
Love Floyd and this song rocks
My 1st Pink Floyd concert when the Echos album came out in Chicago. All I can say is WOW!!!
Nick is a beast.
Still fresh in 2023
Many bands tried to do experimental music, but only Pink Floyd was able to get it right, every time.
Pink Floyd was the greatest example of Avant Garde music ever!
Gilmour actually looking real aggressive and anger for once. He was rockin man. The GOAT
I remember playing this song in my 1st car back in the 70's. I was travelling up the NE extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike at 55mph when it started. Half way into the song , I was doing 85 and didn't realize until then. lol.
Always loved this Jamming hit. It's just everything. Love Pink Floyd at 73 years-old. CRANKSHAFT
THE DRUMMER IS SO ESSENTIAL IN ROCK MUSIC !
Que genialidad Nick Mason!! espectacular cancion!!
one of the best song ever .....
Despite Nick's timing errors, it's the best version of this song. Very good, especially the bass!
I agree. So ahead of their times. Especially the Echo effect. Wonder if U2 bass lines were influenced by PF.
i dedicate this theme to a very good girl friend of mine from my childhood.Sara, hope you like it,because its one of my favourite Pink Floyd themes and i know you enjoy their work too.Pink Floyd songs are the soundtrack to our childhood, remember? (thank you, too, for sharing this video,Bruno Calderon)
Awesome! One of the best rock drum performances ever.
It's okay.

Extraordinario!
Gracias por esto y por todo Papá, allí donde estés.Te quiero.
Pink floyd THE BEST.
Agree. They may be too mellow for some people....but their sound quality will not be matched by any bands.
Perfect to the ears
💯% Pure PINK FLOYD
L❤VE IT !
one of the .. best music, Pink Floyd
I had no idea Nick was such a Bad Ass !
Epic !!!Awesome!!!
One of my favest Pink Floyd works. Thank You for the JOY. Greetings from Hungary (far not an Orban fan) .

PINK FLOYD FOREVER!!!!!
Even at the 10000-th time I wach this, still waiting for the stick event (!)
According to Nick Mason's book Inside Out, a reel of film shot of this song went missing, so the director and editor had to improvise with what they had.
I seen the Meddle tour in 71. This song was the start of the 2nd set. Then they played Echoes. Something I will never forget for sure :-) Peace
Good for you. I bet for you.. Concert of a lifetime. I wish I was there at my hero Gary Moore concert . But never got the Chance..... Cause Gary Died prematurely in 2011.😢
love Nick
one of these days and echoes from meddle was the start of an amazing journey. Unless you were there - you may not understand - It was over 40 yrs ago.
echoes is my favorite song of all time, hands down. people say darkside was their first truly great work. i disagree. i think it was meddle because of this song and echoes.
Kevin, I would actually go back a bit further to "alan's psychedelic breakfast" , however, I agree that One of and Echoes are two on my most favorite pieces of music ever .......

After Echoes, they certainly knew the musical direction they were heading towards.
One of these days was originally a longer piece but they cut it short on meddle.
They really moved forward in leaps and bounds with meddle, into the real world and left the fantasy and psychedelic world behind.
They evolved.
What This Generation Has..... Is No Clue What Reality Really Is ? This Music Takes You To Another Dimension That Only Theories Can Distinguish 😌😌😌
Bass & Drums phänomenal!
One of the best Songs!
PINK FLOYD!
Thank you for the Video!
Andreas Hamburg Germany
When I was growing up we all listen
