  • the phenakistoscope animation technique applied to business cards. when played on a turntable under a bright light & viewed through a camera, the shutter speed blends the frames together into a moving picture! drewtetz.com

This reminds me of a similar illusion from a cereal box in the late 70s. The back of the box had an image and when you put spun it on a record player the image changed. I think the end result was a scarecrow. It's been a while.

I despair of ever lining up simple text on a business card again, because that goes beyond anything I had imagined! think about the application of printing on the clear plastic business cards... WOW

It looks so amazing ! but if you need a camera to see the animation what's the point ? Because the principe of phenakistoscope is from 1832 as said on you website, so it's a trick to see an animation without modern camera so...

I think I read on Wikipedia that they were originally made and viewed with a mirror but this is also a different variation in itself since this one the whole thing moves as opposed to viewing a single frame that became animated which is similar to film. Also 33 1/3 rpm might be too fast for the naked eye to see the animation which would be why you would need a cameras shutter speed to slow it down. Regardless I really want to try this
