  • 2016年4月、岡山県立大学・映像デザインの授業において、映像制作の1stステップとして制作した「驚き盤」の映像集です。
The 1st. lesson of making movies at the class of the video design at Okayama prefectural university.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are 3 steps about our making phenakistoscope movies.
    1. Capture or scan the drawn pictures. And retouch them.
    2. Make sequence(timeline) with 12 fps in video editing software
    (ex: Adobe AfterEffects, Premier Pro).
Because the circle pictures have 12 picture cells in our works.
Rotate the pictures 1 time in 1 second. (or Rotate 6 times in 6 second)
The animation will be synchronized with the rotation of the picture!
I made one sequence and rendered (or export) one movie clip in each picture.
    3. Edit the movie clips.
Finaly, import the movie clips again and edit them in video editing soft in 29.97 fps. (in standard video frame rate)
You can add smooth dissolve or other video effects and music.
This step is usual video edit.
    Good luck!

Very simple. You need stiff white card, divided into 16, 18 or 20 "pie slices". An old-school protractor will do the trick. The animations you've seen are great but I would suggest a "flight path" approach, with a small object taking a multiple of (say) 16 steps to complete its journey. Be sure to use more than the perimeter in your design. Use pencil a lot (3B) until you are completely happy with your animation. Paint the reverse BLACK to relax your iris as you look through 16 identical slits at a mirror. Small slits give sharper definition; larger offers brighter colours. Enjoy!
