    Man, we have a lot in common. I also grew up in the 80s, was athletic and not a nerd, but I LOVED RPGs. I also played solo because I moved away from my group that introduced me to D&D and I still wanted to play. I played D&D, Marvel FASERIP, Star Frontiers and others alone. I kept it hidden from most because it wasn't cool yet!

    I wish I had known solo gaming was a thing a decade ago when I moved to a new city, away from my longtime group. I only really started hearing about it with the release of Ironsworn.
    At the moment, I have several RPGs that I want to play solo. Aside from Ironsworn and Starforged, there is Shadowdark, Fate, Savage Worlds, Captain's Log and the upcoming Crown and Skull. For the games that don't have their own oracles, I'll be using the Mythic GME. I am very tempted to grab Dragonsbane, as well, even just for the art, but given how little play time I have, I'm not sure that I will.

      It’s a very comforting hobby to be in. I am very selective now on systems that I play. Solo playing mostly Avatar Legends, Dungeon World, WFRP, Monster of the Week, Dragonbane, MANY Solo Journaling RPGs, The One Ring, and a few more.
      I’m to a point where I am done collecting and I’m starting to trade or sell off systems that I don’t play any longer.

    These days, my wife and I generally play story games in small groups (no D&D--games like "Fiasco," "Fall of Magic," and "Slugblaster" are more our speed), but I used to write short stories as a kid. I am 39 now, but I understand what you mean by being laughed at for writing stories and playing games. I hope someday I can reawaken that younger me who just wanted to get lost in a pencil and notebook. Much respect.

    I just discovered your channel and very glad that I did. I love the idea of using solo role playing layered on top of another game. So many great games lack depth, I just want to hit pause and generate my own role play stories just like you are doing in Skyrim. One of my biggest criticisms about Skyrim was that they’d introduce some amazing NPC, you do a quick quest for them, and then there was no further dialogue or interaction possible with them. Your approach to gaming will change everything for me for so many games, thank you!

    • @wilonascave
      @wilonascave  Год назад +1

      It is the main reason why I started solo roleplaying when I was a child. When Smurfs was canceled and I wanted to continue the cartoon series I created stories while Solo roleplaying and now when I play video games and I see a interesting NPC - I wonder how the rest of their day is, etc. and I play that out.

    I picked up another older Swedish one awhile back, Ruin Masters, along with it's newer Bestiary on their last KS. It's a hex & dungeon crawler with a much simplified and modified version of Runequest/BRP's d100 system (but keeps hit locations). Notably, it has tons of encounter, loot, etc. table trees integrated into it. Plus the Bestiary expands them. No dedicated solo oracle but that's little concern since it has so much of the other tables you usually have to cobble together or create.
    I'll have to give Dragonbane a look after it's all out. The solo rules look a bit similar to those in The One Ring on first glance.

    Go for the sole survivor trait. Also I really want to see how will that play out. i have a plan to do something similar - make a journal, and play every second/third day, keeping notes, and play as far as i can. the problem is - i keep changing systems too often. i try everything from ironsword, d100 dungeon, savage worlds to big ones like DnD, Warhammer and such. I don't feel this "need for play", carrot or stick to move on. At least not for long. last time i did with my character (DD5e) a scenario form yawning portal and Dragons of Starwreck isle. I planed to do then Tyranny of Dragons campaign. I played a scholar, worshiper of Raven Queen, who wanted to study dragon magic, and use it to establish portal to Shadowfell. Sounds interesting, even now, as i write it down, but.... i dont know.. seems like i lost this "need" for adventure.

    • @wilonascave
      @wilonascave  Год назад +1

      I’m thinking Sole Survivor as well. First episode will come out tomorrow or next if everything goes to plan.
      I understand what you mean by the loss of a need for adventure. so that’s why I when I play I play as Director creating a film/movie and I want to see that movie get completed. This is where, form my solo play, it is very important to write threads so I know when the session or campaign is complete.

      The large adventure book is meant for group play, although I use them as well for my solo games because they’re full of NPC’s maps, tables, etc. you can play solo with any adventure module. I’ve done it before, but when there’s a secret to be found, I roll on an oracle to see if one of the characters would like to roll perception, and if it rolls on a No, then no one rolls on perception.
      But I just make my own adventures up and I use campaign books for supplemental material.
