✅ New Tools For Locating Your Tower and Signal Line of Sight - External Antenna Aiming

  • Here's how to pinpoint your local towers and determine if they are line of sight (visual and RF) as well as see the fresnel zone and local terrain. This applies to T-Mobile, Verizon, At&T and other carriers. Cell towers emit signal in most directions and there is a fresnel zone that must be considered as part of the determination of "line of sight". I go thru how to determine that and some simple website tools to use to show if you have line of sight. Popular external antennas for fixed wireless home internet are Waveform's 4G 5G panel antenna, log periodic direction antenna (LPDA) and the Griddy grid periodic directional antenna (GPDA).

    Dude, take the sub! This was massively helpful! Just got T-Mobile Home Internet and I was sure it was going to be a bust. Couldn't get decent speeds anywhere in the house, I'm talking 2 Mbps MAX. Watched this vid, located the tower I was looking for, pointed it in the right direction and I am getting 10 times that now. It may not sound like much, but this is a massive improvement! I haven't even connected the 4x4 antenna yet. Thanks!

    Nate first off, thank you I've been watching your videos for a while now, I also have a waveform log antenna and have tried many different way to connect routers to T-Mobile Nokia. Your videos have help me tremendously. I just wanted to say thank you and keep up the good work. I'm in a rural area in Ohio. Your videos have helped me to go from 10-25 Mbps down stock to what I get now which isnt by any means perfected yet but I'm getting there. Now I'm anywhere from 60-125 Mbps. My biggest hurdle I face is trying to configure a second router (Belkin ac/ax) with TMobile via Ethernet cable. And now trying to connect Netgear r6260 ac wirelessly with Belkin to play PS4 on my garage but am losing lots of speed. Could you go in more depth on how to configure routers. Thank you. I look forward to seeing more of your videos

      You're welcome. Connecting two brands of routers together wirelessly is typically plagued with issues. If you can't get an ethernet backhaul (or ethernet over powerline or MoCA) and you have to go wireless from one router to the next I'd recommend a dedicated mesh system designed to work like that. Here's my Asus setup: ruclips.net/video/hIKZzCkbXDY/видео.html

    Hi Nate. Been watching your channel for awhile. Just got my TMHI and I'm getting ping 179ms, down 12Mbps up 3Mbps. I looked at The "map" and found the tower that I pass everyday to work and when I click on it, it says 0.00AGL. It's also on CellMapper as a TM tower and on Google maps. I know I'm going to hack the Nokia Gateway (scary) But I think I can do it. I don't have a router yet. Thank you for any possible help. Keep up the good work. Will be watching more.

    Thought I'd share my less than typical internet connection. Take a slow zippy dsl connection, add a t-mobile hm internet, toss in a multi-wan router for connection bonding top off with a cell phone booster. This collection took my single dsl speed from 15 mbps to 50 mbps with fail over .

    thanks but UISP was different than your video? it said lidar data not available in this area? whatever that is? could not get the blimp look? LOL had a dropdown and wanted product types? couldnt put it frequency's correctly or not sure? my tower was hard to find. i used the cordinates from towermaps to mark it on UISP. so that was cool. i am blue. 3.6 miles away with a -7.28 tilt. i havent used external attenas yet. have had t-mobile now for about 6 months. was getting 200-250 mbps with the OEM trash can tower upstairs on the loft. but lately im down to 125-150 mbps. still happy as F&$k to get it since sattalite was only 2-3 mbps LOL. dependig on the product the tower has a ( PowerBeam 5AC? ) i can hopefully get 597 mbps with external antenna?
    thanks for the vid!

    I bought an old Japanese house in the countryside and there isn't any internet service out here, apart from my phone's cell signal. My service provider, Docomo, sent me a free signal booster/repeater and external antenna, which did help but still sucks. Today I raised the antenna up to about 16 feet, but I'm not exactly sure which way it should be pointed or how high would be best. The booster reads 4/5 bars and my phone says it has "4G+," but the actual performance comes and goes and I never, ever have the 5G I'm paying for

    Waveform’s Griddy should work well with the T-Mobile 5g box, right? I just got one yesterday, and I’m struggling to get it to work well. I’m pretty sure I have line of sight to the tower, but I’m having trouble finding a signal.

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  2 года назад +4

      The griddy is VERY sensitive to aiming. You also need atleast 2 to leverage the 2x2 mimo that the gateway is expecting. A friend has a few, I might should do a video on it sometime.

    • @NoahZimmerman
      @NoahZimmerman 2 года назад

      @@NaterTater Thanks for the reply. Yeah I’ve noticed it’s very sensitive to where you aim it. So, since I only have one (not allowing for mimo) I won’t be able to use it? Maybe I didn’t do enough research… 🤔
      Edit: Also, I’m sorry that I’m asking you all of these questions, but for some reason waveform customer service hasn’t gotten back to me in a week. I’m not sure what’s going on.

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  2 года назад +3

      Its an issue on their end. You as a user cant fix it other than going to a different ISP. That said not all people on TMHI have that issue. Seems to be area/tower/band specific.

    So I was getting on the n41 band for the past couple weeks, and now no matter where i set it, it puts me on the n71 which is dramatically slower, is there anyway to force the n41 band? Could it be that trees are getting fuller and maybe they are blocking the signal to get on n41?

    • @NaterTater
      @NaterTater  2 года назад +1

      Not likely to be leafs causing the issue. Either tower is being upgraded and modernizing n41 or firmware update changing band priority is the culprit. An externa antenna aimed correctly may resolve if its firmware/signal related.

    • @mikehunt3592
      @mikehunt3592 2 года назад

      Can you get past the band prioritization with a antenna? Or reverse the firmware update to the previous version with the silver bullet?
