Thank you for being a fountain of information about Nicaragua 👍
Felicito a la mamá de todos los nicaragüenses por darnos este youtubers, gracias compañera Rosario!
Thanks Scott, when I came in a couple months ago I came from Miami to Managua and it was very easy. No problems.
Oh good zo know,I usually fly with United due because my brother works as a pilot.Good news, thanks!
We took the Tica bus March 2020 and it was stress free :) it did take us pretty much a whole day to get to Rivas Nicaragua where we decided to start our exploring the next day on to the ferry to Ometepe where we stayed two nights, we rented each a dirt bike sooooo much fun.
Our flight was dirt cheap from Montreal to San Jose $ 411 each, this is why we chose to land there but we did some sight seeing while in Costa Rica this was my third trip there and was very disappointed to experience the cost rise to anything we wanted to visit. :( But it was worht the travel by bus.
That's great. Those buses are often really fun (for me at least.) I plan to do one to Panama sooner or later.
Thank You. Will be in Granada 5/25-6/2/23 Casa Blanca - Stop bye.
Just in Granada? I need to get out there to do some filming sometime soon.
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog yes just in Granada as we will visit with Family

I just found your videos last week and I think I have a male crush.. your very informative and helpful. Im coming in October to Nicaragua I'm not sure which town do I want to reside in but I'm sure that I want to give it 6-9 months to decide if I truly want to retire there. Gracias for your great videos
Haha. Thank you so much! There is a lot of variety to explore for sure.
Sad to hear about avianca I love them good service
Some great insights, I’d like to share one thing about the Best Western. Last night many guests who made reservations with third party bookers had issues. The hotel could not confirm some of these reservations. The front desk was polite and professional but many of our cards ended up being charged twice.
I'm going to bet that they used Expedia? That's nothing to do with the Best Western or any hotel. Third party services will sometimes post fake accounts representing the hotel (identity theft). The hotels have nothing to do with that, it's an imposter. Expedia has done this to every hotel we know. This is purely Expedia. Everyone should know not to use them because they let anyone make a hotel account and they don't verify it is the actual hotel. The hotels are literally powerless about this. They don't get a penny from the transaction, nor do they get told about it.
Booking.com verifies the accounts, I've never heard of a fake account on Booking. But Expedia does not. If you use a third party service you need to either truly trust them (Booking is very safe) or you need to verify with the hotel that they received payment and the booking.
Hey Scott, useful info as always. Glad to hear the prices may be coming down. Just to get the perspective of one who has traveled in and out of Nicaragua, when would you say is the best time to book, if one wanted to travel to Nicaragua, say May of this year?
I'd book pretty soon and look to fly the middle of the week. Tuesdays are generally best.
The busy season ends at the end of April, so generally all of May is good.
They also give you a full course meal
Excellent
American also flied into Managua from Miami, but DFW is the better airport.
DFW flights pass through Miami. But the taxes are oddly lower if you start in Dallas. 🤷♀️
Weird! Your stress level is lower leaving from DFW than Miami. Been in 100+ airports and MIA is the worst, especially clearing Customs & Immigration.@@ScottAlanMillerVlog
DFW isn't great for stress, but way better than Miami for sure. Although it isn't REALLY Miami, it's Ft. Lauderdale that Spirit uses to launch to Managua.
I'm flying in Feb. 2nd on United
Very nice, and very soon! What are your plans?
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog I used to live in Granada and miss Nicaragua terribly so coming back to visit during February and see about returning after that to stay.
@@carlotafetzer815 That's great! A preemptive welcome back!!
On my recent Visa renewal trip to Nicaragua I was shocked by price increase. But then I base it on shoppingf at La Colonia, a pricy suparket owned by Walmart. I live in Costa Rica and our prioces are about half that at numerous Chinese supermarkets. Rents, and taxi fares have not changed much thouge. But as of present I feel Panama would be the best choice. Just not Colon or Panama City. Nothing nicer than Bocas del Toro and island hopping with water taxis.
Everyone tells me that La Colonia being owned by Walmart is just a rumor. La Union definitely is, as are Pali and Maxi Pali, but all of them say Walmart all over the place inside and they carry Walmart's brands and are all claimed by Walmart. La Colonia doesn't claim to be Walmart, doesn't look or feel like the Walmart brands, doesn't carry Walmart products, competes head to head with La Union, makes a big deal about being Nicaragua owned (to differentiate from Walmart's properties) and Walmart's website claims all the others, but not La Colonia... corporate.walmart.com/about/nicaragua
I'm pretty confident that La Colonia is Nicaragua owned like it claims. They are Nicaragua's home grown super market chain. That's why many of us favor it. We don't dislike Walmart, but supporting Nica businesses is important when they do a good job and La Colonia is really good.
La Colonia is Nicaraguan, started in Matagalpa. Maxi Pali is a Walmart subsidiary. Cheapest prices are generally at the municipal markets.
Hello thanks for the videos .
Any advice for flights flying from Toronto Canada ?
Not personally but let me ask. I'm having dinner with Aprille and she does that regularly.
Sounds like it can be easier to get into Nicaragua then into Cuenca Ecuador.
Easier than most anywhere really.
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog Flying to Cuenca for some reason is very hard. Not to mention Manta. If you have a reason to fly back to the US and especially Canada it's not easy. Are there direct flights back and forth from US and Canada to San Juan del Sur?
Greetings Scott, thank you for the information! I appreciate your wisdom!
Can you tell me if there will be a problem if I book a one-way ticket? I am not sure when I want to leave! Haha! :)
Almost everyone comes here on a one way ticket (and very few leave, lol.) Because you get up to 180 days and can just cross the border easily by taxi and come back, forcing an onward ticket makes no sense here. Nicaragua is very welcoming. Just get that one way ticket and you are good.
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog I appreciate you Scott! I look forward to traveling there! Enjoy your evening! 🙏
@@Justice.the.expressr Thank you! Do you have immediate plans to come here?
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog Greetings Scott! Yes, I do have immediate plans to arrive in the end of April (April 25th)! Is it required to have a COVID test or take vaccines to travel to Nicaragua?
Depends on the airline. I had to prove residency for Delta.
Do you have to have a round trip ticket? I'm planning to retire there.
No, Nicaragua never requires a round trip, onward or exit ticket when arriving here. That's Costa Rica only.
I’ve had lots of weird glitchy issues with my GoPros no matter how many times I update the software. I’ve had nothing but great luck with Insta 360 so no more gopro for me.
So far it's been the same for me. I love my GoPros and am FAR from giving up on them. But reliable they are not. My Insta360 has been used far less but so far is ROCK solid.
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog good to hear! Just found your channel so I’ll be checking out a lot more videos. What do you use to make your thumbnails? They look so good.
Awesome, welcome to our little community!
Can you get through customs in nicaragua with a one way ticket?
Yes of course. There is no return or onward ticket requirement in Nicaragua. That's only Costa Rica.
You can, but not likely you will. Thing to do is buy a return ticket on the day you fly. Once you arrive and get through Immigration, cancel the return ticket. You have just 24 hours to do that from time of purchase. And fact is the airline will not let you board without, as is immigration rejected you thewy would be stuck with teturning you to the US at their expense. Of course from time to time someone does slip through.
A word concerning Spirit. My only arguments with them is baggage charges, especially carryon As well as changebility and cancellation. But having non reclinable seats is a bonus that I like so no one is invading the space I paid for.
You ewill still do better flying to Costa Rica then bus to Nicaragua. Flights are about one third the price.
Copa, AeroMexico, Avianca tend to be better choices.
And it is Immigrations, not Customs that would be the one turning you away. Custims is only interested in things in baggage and on or inside your person.
this is very helpful thank you, do you happened to know if I can book a flight from Dominican Republic to Nicaragua without layover. if yes pls let know. thanks again for this video
You cannot. USA, Mexico, Panama, El Salvador are the only countries with connections into Nicaragua currently. All other flights must connect through one of those.
that's so unfortunate, thank you for the reply @@ScottAlanMillerVlog
yeah, we hate how limiting that is living here. That's why we often take the bus to the airports in Costa Rica instead. @@klayf_
can a nicaragua citizen fly from USA to nicaragua without passport???? with his or her citizen residence id only??????
No, no flight in or out of the USA or Nicaragua (or basically any country) can happen without a passport, let alone to each other. The US and Nicaragua are in NO way in any shared border zone. These are not friendly countries that cooperate on things. But even countries that are super friendly with the US can never do this. Americans are often warned to carry their passports even when moving around within the US because many border officials don't know when you are in another part of the US or another country because they don't know their own country very well and will accidentally think that another part of the US is foreign.
Do you need aCovid test July 2023 if not vaccinated?
Yes, COVID test or vaccine are still required.
There ara also 4 day cruises out of Miami that make a stop in Nicaragua. Say youre sick and get off. I have seen the cruises for under $350.
Personally I will not fly with any US carrier or stay in any US based hotel or go to from or through the US.
Seriously? How have I never seen these? From Miami? I knew that cruises go to SJDS, it's a cruise port. Do the Miami cruises go somewhere else? There's no Caribbean deep water port (yet) but they might sit off shore. I've got family that would do this cruise potentially.
Whoa, how about this one.... Galveston to San Juan del Sur, $956. My family lives almost all in Galveston so that's WAY more interesting. Wow, thanks for the heads up. I've got multiple people looking into boat options right now!
Good day sir .. I have been watching your videos I’m a huge fan from Africa . Will want to travel to Nicaragua very soon … I wish to ask if it’s possible to conduct the Covid test at the Managua airport before going through the border control . Again , I heard you know to have someone in Nicaragua who will receive at the airport… I hav my hotel reservations but will just need someone’s contact and address just in case pls wish to ask if you can be of help thanks sir.
No, tests must be demonstrated prior to the flight. Once you arrive it is too late. There is no testing service in the airport or even that part of the city. The only testing facility is across the city, if it is still operating, at the public hospital.
You do not have to have someone receive you at the airport. I've never heard of that and I've never known anyone to do it. There is no such requirement, although it can be handy for obvious reasons just to have someone you know waiting for you.
Hotel reservations are all that is required. Make sure you have the hotel's address and phone number as they will record that in case they need to reach you.
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog thanks so much sir it’s understood 👌
why is that guatemala, mexico, honduras, salvador, costa rica dont have it why us
As I have my shots, I really forget about it as I need to travel with documents either way. For us it only takes a second. You just flash the documents to the nurse and you go through.
Will customs confiscate e-cigarettes / vapes when flying into Managua from the US?
I don't think so. They definitely allow you to have them here. Customs doesn't confiscate too much.
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog thanks for replying! Flying in next month with a mission group but was reading they have banned import of e-cigarettes. Didn’t want to cause a fuss at security
Maybe they have, but I'm not aware of it. I know that you can buy them here no problem.
@@ScottAlanMillerVlog - thanks again.
when you think they will lift the dumb cpr everyone has done it already
Not hints if it here. I doubt it is going away anytime soon.
It says as of July 21st no longer needed 🎉
I plan to go next week !
Slow toking bro
What does that mean?
Hi Scott. I really enjoy your vids even though most are geared toward buying in NIc. I'm looking to fly from Vancouver Canada, one way, just to scope out Nic as a possible living situation. I plan on staying 3 months, then maybe popping into Costa Rica for a look. Not sure when I would want to return to Canada, if at all. If I fly into Managua, I guess you have to, I'd like to know the best place to go upon touchdown, to get information on renting a place for 3 months as a base. I want to explore the culture and nature. If I like I want to find out how to actually rent there permanently. I don't want to buy a property because I may want to move around and rent in various locations. Can you point me to a website that might be able to answer these questions as well as getting residency or dual citizenship? I'm so new to all this. Especially as a Canadian, I have no idea how I keep my Canada pensions or if I even can. Thanks again for getting me interested in Nic.
So my site has the most current info. There's NO online resource (me included) on renting long term. Find the city/town tha tyou are interested in. Get in a cheap hotel. Start walk/driving around and look and see what there is. That's literally what we all do.
Residency is super easy and isn't needed. You don't look into that until you've been here a while and have decided you want to definitely stay really long term without traveling much. Then you just hire a lawyer and go through the current options to get residency. YOu don't do this, ever, until migracion tells you to do so. You never prompt it yourself.
Citizenship, dual or otherwise, is absolutely not desired by anyone that knows what it is, nor is it at option. Completely off of the table.
Your Canadian pensions is purely a question for Canada. Nicaragua has zero care or say in the matter. So you'll have to check there if they have local residency requirements or something.
