Nowhere in France they will refuse to cook it longer if you ask for it, and we ask when we take the order. It have nothing to do with customers are always right, it have everything to do with basic safety health mesures and satisfaction of a paying customer.
OK but she was rude, not pregnant and he actually suggested for her to try it first before complaining, which is fair since they cooked it as she asked.
As an Indian who worked from India for the Americans as a technical support agent during her struggling years, i want to say this show has given me such satisfaction in watching the French kinda bullying Emily and mocking the ideology that Americans think they are the center of the world and that the customer is always right . The one where Sylvie bashes Madelline and asks her to leave the marketing to the French because they are afraid of their culture being twisted was the best part . A lot of sadistic pleasure in the entire series ... seemed like netflix decided to take revenge on my behalf .
It’s no secret Darren Star made most Asian characters in original Sex and the City either mean grocery owners, a servant, soulless nail salon, hair shop workers. No surprise in Paris that he turned a Ukrainian into a thief.
What I hated most about this show was men Simping to Emily all the time! My God! And they show Camille saying French men are not easy! Apparently they are Emily actually used Mathieu (as she knew he likes her) to pull strings in Pierre Cadault and then goes on hitting on her friend's boyfriend which leads to sex. Commendable character!
Have you seen San Andreas? An American girl walks into the room and two British boys practically faint and ask for her number right away, because she is 'so s-so beautiful...' And she just hands them her number like she's a rockstar and is getting this treatment all the time. Same thing in Lizzy Mcquire the movie (in rome) and Despicable me 4. And Madagaskar 3 (or 4?) and Taken, though that one isn't really simping and more like pimping. But you know what I mean. American women (are made to) think they'll be seen as rare diamonds over here.
I cannot suspend my disbelief for this show. It's just overall painful to watch. I watch a lot of unrealistic shows not meant to be taken seriously but dang, this show is just so offensive, not to mention ignorant, that I just can't. Sad that shows like Mindhunter can't get enough viewers but shows like this do.
Im still mad about Mindhunter. I dont hate Emily but i agree with you that shows like Mindhunter should get the same kind of popularity but thats just life
When it came out I thought it would be like SATC, based in Paris, but when I started watching it, it was nothing like it, I survived one or two eps and never came back
I am willing to believe that Emily is actually in a psych ward somewhere like the one Buffy episode, and all of this is a world she has concocted in her mental state, only to be revealed as such like the old Newhart show's series finale. Perhaps the characters are medical personnel, etc.
Are we going to ignore the fact that the main storyline is about Emily having an affair with a dear friends boyfriend??? (Even if she didn’t know at first). We’re supposed to like her? 🙄
I'll be honest, while the show is dumb, her argument about her basicness was kind of a fair point. Especially in this day and age, high fashion brands wouldn't be as well loved if the masses who can't afford it didn't give a shit. Which I know a lot of people don't but if it was just the people who could afford it AND were interested in it who cared, they'd have a pretty small following. But to give the show a genuine criticism, I don't think half of it would be so bad if it wasn't so proud of itself and made out dumb shit like "berry hungry" was so clever. Like it's the kind of thing if I scrolled past it on Instagram I'd think "cute" and move on. It's made cringe because it's supposed to come off as clever which like... no?
The show's reactions weren't just a glance of how the french think americans abroad are annoying but how ANY american tourist can be quite annoying outside their bubble
Because of Netflix world wide range, this show became a reference about French culture in others part of the world. As a French woman living in an asian country, it is so upsetting because it is so wrong about almost everything.
This show is horrendous!!!! Such a disgrace to how French culture is really about! I've been Paris twice, and this depiction is far from the truth. Way to go for shedding light on this horrific show. I love Lily Collins but her as Emily doesn't do her acting justice!
I can relate to some things on the show. When I took my mom to Paris for a vacation it was an awful experience. I don't know if it's because we're Asian or the French just dislike foreigners, but the people aren't very polite, service was bad, we couldn't even ask for directions without getting scoffed at. To think I saved for more than a year for this trip SMH.

“Emily in Paris” goes on and on in presenting stereotypes about an American landing in Europe, not to mention that is unrealistic. You might not speak the local language to work in multinationals - particularly in the field of technology - but I don’t see that happening very often in marketing and communication. Among everything, that’s really ridiculous how French class is carried out, that is, her paring up with a Brit: the best way not to practice a foreign language is indeed working with someone with your same mother tongue! At least the second series is better-conceived than the first one, for instance the character of Philippine Leroy is much better developed.
@@emilytalerman3567 If you are an immigrant and you're taking classes to learn the language of the country you moved to, chances are that you're going to have at least one classmate from your home country. A lot of language courses put emphasis on teamwork mostly because a lot of exercises are actually roleplay conversations (e.g. a shop owner with a customer, a job interview situation) so that you get used to using the language in a setting where you don't have much time to think so you have to improvise. So for such tasks, teachers often prefer to avoid pairing two speakers of the same language. For example if it's a Spanish course and you put a German and a Korean together, they'll be forced to discuss their task in Spanish. But if you pair two Danes, they'll end up discussing the task in their native Danish because it's easier. I took German classes when I moved to Germany and I had a lot of Chinese classmates. All of our teachers avoided pairing them together or tried pairing them with a third person who *wasn't* Chinese so they'd *have* to speak in German so as to not exclude the third person out of the conversation. Otherwise they would have just spoken in Chinese and so they would have never truly got to exercise their German.
I don’t thing La Vien Rose moment was cringy. It’s an iconic song, it was simply a tribute to the evergreen song. It’s a lovely feeling.
you're waiting for la viande rose? that's something you haven't in common with Emily apparently (seriously though there couldn't be anything more cliché than la vie en rose in a fiction about france)
Oh come on, the letter scene is absolutely iconic. I'm French and I'm not offended by the stereotypes. I actually think this show is hilairous for the most parts. It's a series. Is life in New York the one showed in Sex and the city? Of course not. Jeez, chill out =D
Let me tell you, things would be a whole lot different if the story followed a 29-year-old man named Émile who slept with his good friend's seventeen-year-old sister and everyone would be joking about it... and then Émile sleeps with that friend's girlfriend.

I would have added how Camille's character goes from enraged to totally fine with the whole "I slept with your boyfriend" situation. In what world... This show is a complete disaster
In my opinion, I don’t think that Camille forgave Emily so easily. She just pretends to continue to be friends with Emily to make sure she doesn't approach Gabriel
I doubt that Camille has forgiven Emily entirely. She’s probably maintaining the friendship to get back together with Gabriel. She succeeds in this, partially thanks to Emily and her mother’s encouragement.

Feels really uncomfortable when asked her opinion. And is basically just interested in Chandler and Joey and wants to silently watch them playing basketbal. I mean, the Dutch are known for quite rude jokes, blatantly giving your opinion and Marga is a name that sounds very oldfashioned and I do not know anyone dead or alive that is called Marga.
Let me start by saying that I LOVE COMEDY! I have watched so many films and series in the comedy genre in various language, so it seems strange to me that Emily in Paris is supposed to be a comedy. I have I’ve heard that it is both a drama and a comedy series, but I can in no way see any comedy in the serie. I see no problem in making a series that presents stereotypes, as long as it is done in a comical way like Family Guy etc. But I can not find the comic genre in Emily in Paris at all. They are presenting these stereotypes so genuine, that it's like you get the impression that this is what Americans think Paris and Europe is like.
I’m European and I’ve never understood the steak issue. Emily orders it medium but they serve it “a little bloody”, so why can’t she ask to cook it a bit longer?
Yeah, and people have standards for their entertainment. It could have been a fun and cheerful shows without the wtf and xenophobic moments , and everyone would have loved it. But it isn't the case. This show is still fun to watch I predict in a long term the show will improve a lot of shows Start of shaky but improve in later seasons so I think this show will do better over time.
The whole show is a cringe fest & definitely stupid. It makes fun of other countries alot. And alot of times she makes no sense at all. I saw about 6 episodes & I said I totally wasted my time. Who moves to a different country but doesn't even know how speak that language...??

I am Dutch so here are my thoughts, I found that the series is a collection of stereotypes. I did enjoy it still though. The French socialist employees who only start the day at 10:30, supposedly can’t get fired etc. The French all seem to smoke and have a nasty habit of calling you a Plouc… tres ringarde. The fashion designer in the picture is yet again male and gay, the CEO’s of Lavaux and Cadault beautiful playboys shall I gon on? The Londoner is of course an investment banker. And even though I love the clothes Emily wears I don’t find it very Parisian, it’s more Carrie. Not sure if the creators thought of Paris as one big Runway (wait until you get out at Gare du Nord and still think the same it’s not all glamour) 😂 now don’t call her a Karen that sexist. There are many Kens out there too. Btw is it that bad to see the Swan lake in the opera? I would love any opera there I guess, does that say something about me, how ringarde!
"You may mock us, but the truth is you need us." That is the fundamental truth about Europe's dependence on the United States. And that is reason of France's _ressentiment_ against the United States.

By the comments, I think French people are uptight. This is not a documentary haha. It’s supposed to be ridiculous and not telling the story of the average Parisian. People act like foreigners don’t come to the United States and don’t speak English. Hell even Spanish. The second biggest language here. Give this girl a break.

I would never have believed that such a light comedy can upset so many people. This series is in no way to be taken seriously and I don't believe that the producers wanted to offend anyone. My perception of the show is that of a young good-spirited girl who makes her way through ignoring all the resistances. I find Lily Collins very charming in this role and the show is based on a somewhat "mild" culture clash. The is the premise. Otherwise there would not be an "Emily in Paris". The funny thing is that I actually can recall plenty situations that I or friends of mine made, which are not so far from what you call stereotyping (especially service wise). I think that every nation has its own way (in general spoken of course) which defines it. For example I find the French way more relaxed about sexuality as Americans. So the scene with Emily and the French girls in the Hammam is not so far from the truth (though that could also happen in Middle-European and Scandinavian countries).
it's a racist, xenophobic, and offensive display of Paris. The jokes fall flat often, and there is no real, consistent plot line for a majority of the show. Emily is a clumsy and careless friend who could also double as a villian in her friend's life.

Well, it's a Netflix show that is intended to be light and somewhat entertaining, so I guess one cannot expect a show worthy of an Emmy or whatever recognition (even though I understand it got already nominated once ). I haven't seen it, but I wasn't aware that, in spite of its success so far, it has been receiving heavy criticism as well. I guess Lily is partially to blame because she took on the role and, from what I understand, has served as producer of the show as well. Happens sometimes, I guess.
Omg, thank you for that comment! People exaggerate with everything, it's just a show and it's supposed to be funny. You have to sometimes laugh at your own expense or someone else's. It's not a crime, chill people!

The part with the ukranian girl was just useless to the plot and offensive toward ukranians. I don't understand why did they add that.

The cringiest Emily in Paris moment is the moment the show got green lit.
What I hated most about this show was men Simping to Emily all the time! My God! And they show Camille saying French men are not easy! Apparently they are
Emily actually used Mathieu (as she knew he likes her) to pull strings in Pierre Cadault and then goes on hitting on her friend's boyfriend which leads to sex. Commendable character!
Have you seen San Andreas?
An American girl walks into the room and two British boys practically faint and ask for her number right away, because she is 'so s-so beautiful...'
And she just hands them her number like she's a rockstar and is getting this treatment all the time.

Damn it really is a way to common trope
I took Moonfall more seriously than this
Mindhunter, oh, yes! ❤
Just give Emily a Karen cut and just rename it Karen in Paris
But it’s going to be an offensive stereotype… Oh, wait
Are we going to ignore the fact that the main storyline is about Emily having an affair with a dear friends boyfriend??? (Even if she didn’t know at first). We’re supposed to like her? 🙄
Exactly. I totally hate her. She's such a bish
She didn’t know he was underage. It’s not her fault and I am not mad at her.
It's made cringe because it's supposed to come off as clever which like... no?
This whole show is cringe and my God she is not a good person
The letter scene in season 2 was so funny. I had to pause I was laughing so hard.
Right??? I loved Camille's response. So appropriate
The show's reactions weren't just a glance of how the french think americans abroad are annoying but how ANY american tourist can be quite annoying outside their bubble
After all the moaning and groaning, how the fuck did this get a second season?
What's even more confusing is that this show got an emmy nomination for best comedy series.
It's just been renewed for seasons 3 and 4 🤦♀️
Bc so many people are hate-watching and bad press is better than no press.
Because people are watching it and giving the show views.
Because of Netflix world wide range, this show became a reference about French culture in others part of the world. As a French woman living in an asian country, it is so upsetting because it is so wrong about almost everything.
I did watch the whole two seasons. It was boring. But Camille and Silvie has the best outfits and that is the only reason why I kept on watching.
Camille and Sylvie are so ICONIC ✨
At least the show managed to bring together the French in our hatred of the show.

Isn't that the stereotype of Americans? 😆
@@riotoews7853 well that seems right 😂
That's exactly why most people don't like Emily's character. She's arrogant for no reason.
How would she be paired with a native speaker everyone in the class is learning French🤔
I think it more like a tradition than stereotype to use La vien rose in a French based show.
Whenever I’m watching a show/ movie based in France I’m kinda waiting for La vien rose melody to pop up. It’s a lovely feeling.
you're waiting for la viande rose? that's something you haven't in common with Emily apparently (seriously though there couldn't be anything more cliché than la vie en rose in a fiction about france)

Let me tell you, things would be a whole lot different if the story followed a 29-year-old man named Émile who slept with his good friend's seventeen-year-old sister and everyone would be joking about it... and then Émile sleeps with that friend's girlfriend.
It was so inappropriate when Emily did those things as well.

Serious shit, how is this show still alive? This is some of the worst writing I’ve ever seen
It starts with the lack of diversity in the writer’s room. You want to write a show able the Parisian lifestyle hire someone from Paris.
Stereotypes and culture clash. Loved it
Wooow, the scene in the restaurant is racist. There's a big diffrence between thinking that it's kinda funny when someone not from your language says your name weirdly and mocking and insulting them for that.
It was kinda obvious that Camille only pretended to have forgiven Emily.
@@lauragoreni3020 Sure, they do show that she is acting weird, however, she still talks to her, listens to her etc. Even on a tactical point of view its just horrible writing. I hate the character so much that I actually am starting to hate the actress even though she’s just doing her job

The Ukranian stereotyping aged like milk (the chef's kiss on that disaster is that they picked a Russian name for her, not a Ukranian)
In Friends, they have a woman called Marga with a heavy Russian accent and she is supposed to be Dutch.
Very silent, skinny blonde lady that looks a bit goth-y.

How did this show get popular it’s not even funny
Emily in paris is like a show for children with adult jokes
I doubt that crap very much
I’m European and I’ve never understood the steak issue. Emily orders it medium but they serve it “a little bloody”, so why can’t she ask to cook it a bit longer?
Because in countries like France and Italy it's unpolite to tell the cook how to do his job, you should eat the food as it brings it to you
Idk why the French hate what is true, when I first moved to Germany, the German's reaction to me speaking English was spot on.
It’s entertainment, not a documentary
Yeah, and people have standards for their entertainment. It could have been a fun and cheerful shows without the wtf and xenophobic moments , and everyone would have loved it. But it isn't the case.
Because no one in America has ever had an affair! Adultery doesn't exist in the US! 🙄
Emily did not have sex with an 'underage' boy. He's 17. The age of consent in France is 16. What she did was gross but it was not illegal.

I haven't seen it, but I wasn't aware that, in spite of its success so far, it has been receiving heavy criticism as well.
I guess Lily is partially to blame because she took on the role and, from what I understand, has served as producer of the show as well.
