I've been kind of weary of biblical fiction just because I don't want to get confused as to what is actually in the Bible, especially since i havent read the whole Bible yet. But i do like books set during biblical times that dont have a significant person in the Bible as the MC.
I feel like biblical fiction helps humanize characters that may seem one dimensional in Bible stories. The Chosen has been wonderful for doing the same thing IMO.
I completely get your struggles with Sons of Encouragement!! For some reason I rated it 5 stars yeeeaaaars ago when I read it... buuuuuut it's definitely not as great as a Lineage of Grace, definitely more dry! All the other books you mentioned are awesome!
Took me years to realize that Biblical fiction is my favorite genre. Love Tessa Afshar and Connilyn Cossette, also Mesu Andrews. Lynn Austin’s Gods and Kings is one of my all-time favorite series. I can’t read too much biblical fiction at once, but I sprinkle it into my TBRs liberally now and just love it! Luckily I still have several series my Connilyn Cossette to read and a bunch of Tessa Afshar’s books too.
Hey! I read the masterpiece by Francine rivers in less than two days and it's almost 500 pgs!! SHE IS PHENOMENAL!!! I have lineage of grace and sons of encouragement and am excited to read both.
I struggle with Biblical fiction, and I still haven't really figured out why. I think part of it is the setting. I love historical fiction, and even if I read historical fiction set in say England, I feel like I can picture it in my head -- based on things I've seen on TV, etc. I envision it to be similar to where I live in MI, but I just can't relate to the setting in Biblical fiction, which I envision as being a hot, dusty, dirty place. It might also be because I know there's a good portion of the story that is the author speculating what might have happened, whereas with other historical fiction there are usually more facts that the author could build the story around. I think I've only really ever read one (Potiphar's Wife by Mesu Andrews), so I need to give a few more books a try, but it seems other things keep coming along, so I don't.
I DNF’d Redeeming Love after 86 pages. Just did not enjoy Francine’s writing style and it didn’t live up to all the hype I had heard. I have yet to read other books from her for that reason but maybe I’ll give it another shot one day.
My Dear Friend it's a shame that the stories didn't appeal to you 😪. I read all of them 😀. I understand your opinion perfectly. In my opinion, Francine Rivers has better books 😀. I like historical books and maybe that's why I managed to read. I read historical fiction and serious historical books. Lately even political for example " Polish politics and the reconstruction of the state".
Yeah i dnf'd this book so early on in all their stories. Felt very dry and boring. The only story I finished was Jonathan's. Saul was written completely out of character. I hated how she depicted Michal. The first three chapters were pretty lame but the last three kind of redeemed it. I ended up giving his story 3 stars.
Yes ❤ Tosca Lee books She made me see Judas in a totally different way I dont know why but i love when u say dudes when talking about bible characters 😂

That totally makes sense Taylor!

I'm with you. I have trouble with historical settings too
Have you read any of the books in the Stephanie Landsem trilogy? The Tomb, The Thief and The Well. All very good.
I read The Tomb! I didn’t love it but I definitely want to read more from her :)
You should try Isaiah’s daughter! It has such good romance, one of my favorite Christian fiction books
I’ve heard amazing things about that one!

“I’m not interested in reading big books.” 👏🏻 RELATABLE 😅
Some of Encouragement does sound interesting though - love a good Bible story retelling 🥹
Except for sounds like it wasn’t so great an experience… 😅🤣 5:27

@@OceanaGottaReadEmAll 🤣 I still want to try it just to see what I think now lol

I love Francine but she's definitely heavy in all her books.
I'm in a mood today 😂😂😂 I feel that
😁😁
Thank you very much this video
I have to admit, Biblical fiction is not my favorite genre. I read some of the stories in Sons of Encouragement but I've not read all.
Yeah it’s not mine either!
Yes ❤ Tosca Lee books She made me see Judas in a totally different way
