I just want to thank the author of this video! I have started my Celta course and they want us to work with your videos. What a great job! Thank you many times! :-)
I am using these videos to review after having done my CELTA some years ago followed by three years of teaching. They are very helpful reminders, thank you very much. The bite size format is wonderful!
You are very right indeed, we novice teachers tend to forget to set up a CLEAR task and peer check sometimes. It has happened to me. Thanks for pointing it out. This will help us a lot. Cheers!
Hi, Joe Have you done any videos about productive skills? I 've tried to search but haven't found any. Thanks a lot for all your great videos and wonderful style of teaching!
Hi Samar - thanks for your kind feedback. I've got a couple of videos on productive skills. If you follow the links at elt-training.com to the CELTA Toolkit (free videos) you'll find a section with them in. Hope that they're helpful - Jo
Thanks a lot for the videos about receptive skills. I was wondering if you could talk about the productive skills, as you know teaching productive skills is quite more difficult than teaching receptive skills. You don't how much these videos are valuable to us. Thanks one more time for your efforts.
Hi Jo, When teaching a reading lesson, we go through lead-in, reading for gist, reading for details and post reading activity. now that we are studying in an online environment, at what stage do we send the students to the breakout rooms and when do we do pair check and how do we do it? thank you for all the videos
Good question! As it takes a while to get into BORs, I’d say maybe do it for the initial lead in discussion and the second reading task, but there are no hard and fast rules.....
Jo, thanks, it's a wonderfull lesson as the rest of them .I've got a question though. Is there anything you can replace a peer check stage with, when teaching one to one? Or it's ok to just exclude it completely in this case?
HI Vasily - thanks for your question and your kind feedback. I think that in 1-2-1 teaching, you as the teacher are also acting as the 'peer' for checking, so they can use you to discuss answers with. If the aim of peer checking is to build confidence and give another opportunity for speaking, then I think that this can be achieved by the teacher in a 1-2-1 lesson. Hope that helps, Jo

Hi! Can you please explain what do you mean by monitor in steps 8 and 9? Thank you so much!
It means to check that students are working on their tasks appropriately :)
