It takes a real man to be able to show yourself so vulnerable in the public. I know you've been mugged - but you made one of the most beautiful videos on the internet as a consequence of that. What would be the world like if more people on this planet would open up and show their real self. You're a gift to humanity brother.

There's some synchronicity going on, it would be wild if those muggers were Daniel's former students or siblings of his students. But now there is an amazing (to me at least) new path of content for Daniel (hopefully) to produce for us. :)

@@PsycheOS I've been doing a little research behind the scenes, and I'm pretty sure that I know people who know the guys who mugged me. And there's a good chance I played music for them when they were little children. And I think I will be finding out more of these details soon. Yes, big ironies here... But that's life -- a wild and crazy venture sometimes!!

This reminds me of one time when I came across a young man in a river valley and as soon as I saw him, I knew he was going to do violence to me and kill me. The realization just came over me. I was walking downhill, couldn’t run back uphill to the middle of nowhere. It was an upscale part of town that is usually safe but rather devoid of other people, quiet. He was off the path coming out of the woods towards me and then stopped at the edge of the path so I’d have to pass him. I didn’t even have my cell phone as I’d left it in my car. I asked the Great Spirit to work through me. I walked past him but looked him straight in his murderous, bloodchilling eyes. I said “Hello young man! God bless you!” In a very pleasant, but loud and startling voice. I kept walking briskly, but confidently. He stayed there frozen. It was terrifying the second I was out of his sight I ran like I had never run before.
Daniel, oh it broke my heart to see this video title. I am so sorry. You absolutely did the right thing. I am sending prayers of gratitude for you and your many gifts to the world. Please take good care of you over the next little while. We are all very glad you are (physically) unharmed and will pray for your healing ✨

I experienced this. I was jumped by two guys in Williamsburg at knifepoint and a stun gun back in 2003. I wasn’t sure if I had been sexually assaulted...my clothes were torn off. I was able to escape when pinned on the hood of a car simply because a man rode by on a bicycle, startled my aggressors and then yelled at me to run. I did. Who knows if I’d have made it out unscathed had that person not intervened? I was very calm during the attack. I tried to reason with them. I was 27 at the time. My reaction shocked me. Afterwards, I was angry. I felt violated and alienated. I was so frustrated because it was two African American men and I had racial bias reinforcement after the incident that I had to work through. It made me feel deep shame. We try to make sense of the senseless. I thought it was because I was gay. I thought it was because I was dressed up in a suit. It thought it was because I was white. Maybe it was just bad timing...wrong place, wrong time.
I called the police, but was told I needed to go to the precinct. It was after midnight, and I didn’t want to pursue the trauma any further. It took about three months to stop feeling paranoid when I walked home at night, but I continued on my journey of life, determined never to allow someone else’s unresolved trauma to traumatize me. Of course, that was nonsense as I hadn’t even started processing my own childhood trauma! It’s a tricky balancing act, but you will only be stronger for it. I empathize and am available to chat should you ever feel the need or desire to exchange on your healing journey.

I'm really sorry that happened to you, Daniel. I was mugged in an elevator in NYC (I'm a woman) and I was in a robbery in my workplace years later. I just remember screaming in shock in the elevator incident. I was punched in the face out of the blue. When I got to the office where I was doing temp work, I told some of my coworkers, but no one really made a big deal out of it. One woman said "Oh, I thought I heard someone screaming." I didn't file a police report, but I quit the job. The lesson I learned from it was not to worry about hurting anyone's feelings if I felt uncomfortable not riding in an elevator with someone, and wait for the next one instead. Hey, that's life in the big city.
I have the right not to put myself in a compromising situation. that outweighs the possibility of hurting someone's feelings.
I panicked in an elevator once after that and ran out as soon as the door opened on another floor. If I heard footsteps on a street behind me, I would have to turn to see who it was.
I had repetitive thoughts, replaying the incidents over and over again in my mind.
You learned situational awareness from this horrible experience. Please stay out of that park at night. I doubt if they are sorry, I'd say that for them it's "Just business". No offense, but for your own safety, please don't wear the hat at night and stay off the phone

My girlfriend and I were robbed by a guy with a gun at a drive through ATM, we were there so she can make a deposit. I saw him a split second in the rear mirror before he showed up on my girlfriend's driver window. He had a mask on, a gun, which he racked in window to show he was serious. I was actually calm and thinking of how I can disarm him, but decided his two handed grip is no go. He took my girlfriend's purse, which have no money, and the car keys, but did not ask for my wallet which had money.
I think he did not ask for my wallet was because I was calm the whole time, and looking in his eyes. The real disappointment was when we walked the parking lot to an Alberson's, told the people there we were robbed, absolutely no sympathy from anyone. Geez. When the cops showed, they asked what race was he, don't know. What kind of shoes was he wearing? What? I don't look at shoes.
Closure came when a few weeks later. A lady called and I picked up the phone. She asked if my girlfriend is missing her purse. I said yes. She said she found it in her son's room. She cried and hanged up the phone. I didn't think fast enough to ask the lady to send my girlfriend's college ID to us, that's all she wanted since we graduated a couple of years already and it's a keepsake. This was 1998, we didn't have caller ID and I didn't know about *69 then.

also, that after such a terrifying, violent experience you are still able to see the humanity in those men and express empathy for them--you are so much better than most of us!
and those folks on those forums are RIGHT! it is never okay to victim blame someone--*they* chose to rob you! you have every right to calmly walk through your neighborhood without the expectation of violence and theft from others--it's all on them! we can only be so cautious, and ultimately can't control if others choose to hurt us or not. ):

You have every right to cry or feel shaken up over something like this, I think anyone would feel traumatized about it.
I was shot at several times while out for a walk by a complete strange, never found out why he did it. I'm just grateful I wasn't hurt but it was very traumatic for me, I had nightmares about it for several weeks and have never returned to the area even a year later. I can't imagine how much more violated I would have felt if I had been robbed.
I'm glad you weren't hurt. It's also good that you have some insight on troubled people who hurt others from your background as a therapist. I disagree. I don't think we attract them as much as they are constantly looking for someone to abuse, and eventually one of us will cross their path. Those who know the secrets to filter them out will repel them while those who don't know the secrets give off the clues abusers base their decisions on to "choose" their targets. The first clue in their favor is that you're isolated and trapped in their presence without resources to escape them.

That is definitely a terrifying experience, Daniel. It is most certainly a traumatizing experience. Glad you're ok and that you weren't harmed thank goodness. What an incredible story and how you so expertly and intuitively diffused the situation, so much so that one of them even gave you back your license and your wallet!! It's amazing how you handled the situation. And it's totally natural that you would feel emotional after this happened - it's absolutely a traumatizing and frightening experience. But I also think you're feeling emotions come up too because of how they softened a bit and showed their human side to you because of the way you handled everything. From being robbed to actually bringing out their humanity and having a human connection. You definitely have a gift, Daniel. It really is a fascinating story!
P.S. I also think they use the angry hate-filled face and rageful voice because they know it's effective in scaring people into giving up their wallet.

Also, i hope you stop blaming yourself soon, because I've always felt that "be aware of your surroundings" is such a load of bs! It's just an excuse to victim-blame, for the most part. It's like telling a woman, don't wear a tight dress. Most of the time, if you become aware there's a bunch of guys following you, there's not much you can do. If those guys already made up their minds that they want your phone, you are powerless to change that, no matter how super duper aware of the fact you are. Maybe you can be less surprised by the attack, but you can't prevent the attack just by being aware. Unless you start running every time you suspect an attack coming, but then you'll be doing a whole lot of running, preventatively, just because you can't be 100% sure :)

I can understand completely why you're feeling vulnerable. I'm amazed you can talk about this so soon. You kept your humanity, amazingly enough, in the midst of crisis and to people who harmed you, even if temporarily - and you kept your clear thinking! Great job!
Btw, I'm thinking you may know that the shaking comes from the adrenaline flowing through your body.
It's too bad you didn't feel much compassion from the police, but I think you're right that certain people who are police need to act routinely and learn how to eliminate suspects first and then relax a little. It's actually not implausible that people wld pretend to be mugged esply since you got your DL back and walked with them a ways. I suppose it's possible that people can make a false report so one gets reimbursed for any missing money, plus whatever money is stolen that any thieves got away with, and then split the reimbursement 3 ways. However, that they stay so close to your house is so strange. I'm glad you told them how it wasn't nice.
What if you had actually played your guitar for them back when they were kids??? That wld be wild! Maybe the one guy recognized you from the neighborhood and knows you are a kind person. Unfortunately, we can never let our guard down. They were lying in wait. Then can around you once your guard was down. They sound very practiced.

I’m crying watching this. The part about the license is sad. There’s so many desperate people now due to the collapse of the world’s civilization. But somehow you made humanity manifest because you are truly human and a warrior of light. Peace and love to you, you are beautiful.

Being mugged is kind of a routine here in Brazil. No one deserves this. You will pass through this horrible experience Daniel. You are lucky to live in a safe country.

Thank you. I had a couple of experiences of people trying to rob me in Brazil, but I ran away in one case, and talked my way out of it in another. I was lucky then. Just not last night!!! Brasil---saudade!!!

Damn, this is an unfortunate story! I think the police might have been acting like that because they see it every day. It's a routine occurrence - sorta like how a dentist views cleaning teeth. And they know that there isn't much they can do about it, so everyone is just there to hangout and chat, all thanks to you lol.
I don't know how I'd react to being mugged, but after listening to your story it made me think about the fact that most of us in the modern world aren't exposed to the most raw force of nature: physical violence. For example, I've never been punched in the face. I don't know how I'd react. I live in a world where words are used to settle disputes - but of course this is a very artificial and human constructed world that exists only because we outsource our physical protection (police officers). Your experience reveals that underneath the thin veneer of "peaceful" human behavior lies the world of getting what you want by use of physical force, and it's a scary world where words matter little...the same set of rules that animals abide by.

Yes. Thank you Zane. I haven't been punched in the face in a long time. More than 20 years. It wasn't fun. I cried a lot afterward. Life can be very primal sometimes. Daniel

Daniel, thank you so much for your strength in sharing this story and your genuine feelings about what happened to you. You are a living example of a healer who has been deeply wounded and has found compassion and insight in the inhuman thing that happened to you. Recently, I had a friend whom I cared for very much turned on me in a hurtful and vicious way. It was horrible. I was heartbroken and, for some reason, I can hear that same heartbreak in your experience too. I’m also a therapist. Please take good care of yourself for the next while and, if you can, be around those whom you love and trust until the pain subsides.

I recommend ID Shield protection ( it’s ten dollars a month ) for identification protection

Thank you so much Daniel. I got mugged this afternoon and still feel panic. While I feel my self blaming starts to kick in - why was I so careless, why didn't I ignored the red flags - your video saved me from self-sabotage. It'd not my fault. And I am OK not be able to work after the incident.

Shocked and very sorry for what happened but you faced and digested the experience in a great way. Sometimes shit just happens and this kind of craziness is part of our sick traumatized society. Very happy you weren't phisically hurt. Some deep breath of disbelief and time for grieving. Greatest and warmest affection form Spain. Thanks so much for all you share, Daniel.

Hi Daniel, thanks for being so brave and vulnerable by sharing this with us. It made me reflect on the time I was mugged when I was 18, having just left home to go to University. At that point in my life, I was so dissociated from my childhood that I didn't even feel any fear when two men cornered me and threatened to stab me if I didn't give them my wallet and phone. After they left, I stood in the road for what felt like ages in absolute confusion, not just that I had been mugged, but that I didn't even feel a thing.
It creeped me out that I could be so calm in such a situation, and I think this was one of many warning signs over the next year that showed me just how split off I was from my real emotions. I'm still very much a work in progress, but I've grown so much since then emotionally (although I still feel as if my healing journey has only just started), and I just want to say that your videos, books have helped me so much, so thank you once again for everything that you do! Keep being you, the world could do with more people like you. Hope your week goes well, and please know that the videos you post really matter! Thanks.

Thank you Benoit. I so appreciate that you've shared that story here. It really makes me thinking. This mugging was a real chance for me to learn many things. An awful experience, but I believe good can come from it somehow! Daniel
