  • Nowadays every patient has access to information regarding a diagnosis or treatment for an ailment by a single click. This looks like a positive trend, but there are concerns. Critics are drawing attention to the changing relationship between patient and doctor, and the impact of unreliable online information. According to critical researcher Peter Gøtzsche it is still possible to gain information at home in a responsible manner and thereby improving the relationship between patient and doctor. On the occasion of his latest book, Gøtzsche will speak at De Balie about how patients can effectively take control and will engage in a debate about the advantages and disadvantages of the more assertive patient.
In How to Survive in an Overmedicated World Peter Gøtzsche is providing patients some tools to identify reliable information in the labyrinth of different interests, facts, opinions and good intentions from doctors, aid workers and the pharmaceutical industry. How does one know if a website, a medical specialist or a story in a magazine is trustworthy? Peter Gøtzsche will engage in a conversation led by Natasja van den Berg with Rob Dijkstra (Head of the Dutch College of General Practitioners) and former doctor and epidemiologist Dick Bijl. Bijl is known for asking critical questions about the excessive usage of medicines in his book Het pillenprobleem. Is it necessary and responsible that so many people use so many medicines?
    About Peter Gøtzsche
Peter Gøtzsche used to work in the pharmaceutical industry but he revolted. In his book Deadly Medicines and Organised Crime (2013) he exposes the pharmaceutical industries and their charade of fraudulent behaviour and in Deadly Psychiatry and Organised Denial (2015) Gøtzsche explains in evidence-based detail why the way we currently use psychiatric drugs does far more harm than good.

    Welke medische informatie is betrouwbaar?
    Over Peter Gøtzsche

I am so glad I came across this video. I was born in South-Africa and lived there for 41 years. When I moved to the Netherlands 24 years ago it was not long about 3 years and I noticed how strong big farma is in this country. It makes me across to see thousands of people being treated with medicine and yet they have no quality of life. The amount of medical errors in this country is huge. Only a small percentage of the population get the nutrients they need in the first 10 years. Doctors give no attention to the love for processed meat and fried foods. Nine out of 10 people have an omega 3 deficiency and many other deficiencies like vit. D and vit. C. Peter Gøtzsche is totally right thousands of people die of their medication. You cannot treat someone with medication if the person is nutrient deficient. Much more attention should be given to diet, lifestyel and deficiencies

Only if psychiatrists weren't corrupted by the very system that they represent (the mental health system). That's bc psych meds r often a REQUIREMENT/MAND8 4 mental health conditions instead of an option or "last resort". Again; it's really NOT the fault of psychiatrists bc they r human also. It's the SYSTEM that's so rigid that it subjects itself 2 scrutiny. Compounding that issue's the pharmaceutical industry. They r equally as corrupt as the mental health, law 4ncmnt, judicial, & political systems.

One can never win with this people .Impossible mission.Having knowledge and all this information is not helping anyone really. The more you know the angrier and frustrated you get …to the point that even when sick as dog you just avoid them ,purely because one can not trust anyone anymore.Very few doctors are capable of doing the right thing
