- Let’s take a look at this ScaleTrains HK Scale Rivet Counter EMD SD40-2B. This locomotive is equipped with ESU Lok-Sound DCC & Sound. A release I had been very excited about getting.
ScaleTrains really hit a home run with this model!

Here's a bit of EMD and Union Pacific locomotive history on this locomotive type:
Union Pacific placed an order with EMD for cabless SD40-2B locomotives during the mid 70s to operate with their DDA40X locomotives on long hot Z piggyback truck trailor trains from the west coast to the midwest and back again from midwest the west cost. Union Pacific cancelled the order and instead told EMD they want cab "A"units... These SD40-2 locomotives became the storied "Fast Forties" outfitted with special high speed ⚙️ gearing to operate with the DDA40Xs locomotives on Union Pacific's hot Z trains.. I would liked to see these cabless SD40-2 "B" locomotives on Union Pacific locomotive roster freshly baked out of EMDs locomotive oven....
I don't think Burlington Northern ordered SD40-2B from EMD, but rather baked their own from wrecked SD40-2s....

I got mine this past tuesday but mine is not DCC ready. Im glad you like yours and I am glad someone finally did a 2B unit. Wish they did all 3 of the BN 2B unit

Even without a layout, models like that would be fun just to have on static display with the ability to play with the lights and sounds.
I modeled all 3 back in the early 1990s atleast 3 times with each number, modeled the SD40B 2 times, one in BN and then SOO for some BN guys when dad worked there....im glad i grew up when i did and had the chance to model ....i still model but foreign roads of south America so i can still kitbash....

Even though I never caught one in PRB service, I needed an ABA set for my DEEX train. It looked good not to get.
I love the B Unit! I truly wonder if the class ones will give the B Units another chance. I wouldn’t mind seeing an ES44ACB or an SD70ACEB? On the passenger side, how about a Siemens Charger B Unit?
I actually think that the passenger B Unit is not impossible.
