Ive met a lot of dogs in my day and I know this 4 month old dalmatian. The single most intelligent dog Ive ever met. Jumping through hoops on its own and walking through busy citys off leash with zero problems and ignoring everyone.

I’ll do my best! I’ve never seen one in real life so December 23rd 2022 will begin a huge learning curve when I get one

I have a six month old male Dalmatian and he is GORGEOUS. You cannot be shy and introverted with a Dalmatian at your side. Attention is CONSTANT! People take pictures of him, reach out to pet him, approach my car in a drive thru etc. few people have ever seen one in their life! But here what I can’t take much longer: Disney is destructive⚠️ Everyday $40-100. Worth of damages. He is difficult to walk for any distance because he is STRONG. My back and shoulders often hurt. I hope to make it to a year! I have NEVER owned a more exasperating dog. I can’t turn my back for a minute. I have to take him to work. I can’t take a shower because he will shred a chair, urinate on the bed, or chew the door frame. I need an intervention! Please pray for me, 😅

Maybe a dog park and one of those “Chuck It” tennis ball launchers to get rid of that puppy energy.

I jokingly say Dals are not really dogs. I have two. Both required the same attention as a toddler growing into the terrible twos. It takes a great deal of time and personal commitment. Hope is not a strategy. They are smart, willful and require intellectual and physical stimulation or they will destroy your home, belongings and run you ragged. Start working with them early, do your homework and if you don’t know how to train then hire a professional. There is a reason you don’t see these dogs often. High maintenance. Probably the most fulfilling experience in my life with this breed and we have had many over the course of years.

That's very helpful info but has put me off getting one. I recently moved to Split in Dalmatia and as an expat feel a bit lonely and have considered getting a dog so thought why not a Dalmatian. Seems rather apt but the ones I've met here are definitely NOT friendly. My entire life dogs have been very attracted to me and I haven't met a single dog that I haven't fast fallen in love with but there's something about dogs in Croatia (even other breeds) that's VERY strange. They're just not dog-like... Difficult to explain. Anyway, perhaps I'll just buy my dog from the UK and bring it here.

@@e.b.4379 I certainly wish you the best. I have experienced what I can only term as cultural differences, or even general attitude in certain areas. I am not joking when I say owners will literally fly “fur in flight” new pups from specific areas of the U.S. I must say that my Dal is the most loyal and attentive dog. Being lonely is not an option. I lost my youngest son last August. My Dal seems to understand grief and when I am down or depressed. I enjoy large dogs, and this breed is as intuitive and dedicated I have ever seen. We have had more dogs, hunting dogs, pointers, spaniels, mutts, Maltese.....you name it. A Dal is my favorite pal! Happy 2022 from Atlanta GA.

@@Lisabug2659 Terribly sorry to hear about your son and hope you're doing well. Animals are great healers! Personally, nothing makes me happier than being around them. I'm not as experienced as you with dogs and having travelled around the world for almost four decades hasn't offered me the time and stability to be able to commit to having a dog. I think perhaps being a novice, I shouldn't even be considering a Dalmatian. We'll see... But thanks for sharing your story and likewise, I wish you a great year ahead!

@@e.b.4379 you actually seem like you would be a great pen pal. I miss travel as the C19 pandemic has ruined plans. So for me, using the time to train my spotted beast....lol....was time well spent. This Spring I will start him in agility training. Let me know if you’d like to trade email sometime.

Why aren’t they good with seniors?

    • @thedalmatianpack

Dalmatians are very good dogs, i don't know about being with seniors though or maybe because dalmatians have a lot of energy. Dalmatians are very good with children, they are hyperactive and love to go for walks and need constant exercise also play time. Also they love chewing on toys and Loveee to eat food....

Dalmations are skittish & attitude changes on a dime. Sorry, my friends was nasty to me for no reason. Animals love me, the meanest dog will be excellent with me, so for her dog to be so crazy to me isn’t good. Others have told me bad stories about them as well so be cautious & train train train right away & exposure to kids & strangers right away is best.
