  • In this video we prep a 2002 Toyota Camry for private party sale. The car only has a little over 90,000 mies on it and is very mechanically sound.
How much do you think I should ask for the vehicle??

Dave, if I was you, I would ditch the Bolt, and keep the Camry. That generation of Camry are nearly perfect cars, and last almost forever (except when exposed to salt). Give your parents a fair price (I think $6K is fair), and keep it!!!!

@@gmv0553 You can buy an awful lot of gas when you have no car payments. EV isn't for everyone, and in fact can be absolutely the wrong choice for a lot of people, who buy into hype and advertising, and don't really have a good, long look at the drawbacks of EV. I would rather have no car payment, myself. Nothing at all wrong with a cheap, reliable, fully paid for ICE vehicle.

Change the PCV valve. It is super cheap, easy to do, and can save the engine from completely filling with sludge. Unfortunately I am speaking from experience.
My wife had one just like it and the oil pressure light came on and it started running rough. She took it to a mechanic and was told that it was completely full of sludge and needed a new motor. I ended up stripping down the head and dropped the oil pan and got everything I could out, but it never ran right again.
We bought it from a used car lot in my area that I should have recognized was quite shady. Took it for a pre-purchase inspection and everything passed. Unfortunately vehicle has no way to check the oil pressure until it is low and the light comes on and somehow oil pressure was not something they check in the pre-purchase inspection. I was young, dumb, and broke and allowed myself to get screwed. All of that was over a $12 PCV valve that was clogged. We ended up selling it for less than half what we paid less than a year later and let the buyer know about the issues we had.

Just a good detailing spray to clean the engine up. It looks pristine. Cleaning the hoses up really can lengthen the life of the rubber. I live in Las Vegas so I did the engine cleaning with a rag and a detailing spray and the hoses still felt and looked brand new. Desert kills rubber!
Yeah east coast wouldn’t kill them as quick but keeping that grime off regularly really does help.

Back when I was a young man, you never saw a 22 year old vehicle. In the 70’s and 80’s you were lucky to get half that amount of time. I drove a 2000 Camry for 12 years. The person who I sold it to drove it for another 8 years before her daughter traded it for a death trap Bettle convertible because it was “cute”!

Dave if I had been the buyer of that car I would have wanted those factory mats, worn or not. Hope you threw them in the trunk and not in the trash! When a car gets to this age, having all the books, all the keys, OEM mats, etc are super special. I would have had a super hard time parting with that Camry if it were mine because they are just so well made. I think 6k is a fair asking price, and if I needed a car I would take that ten times over virtually anything new today.
