Welcome back to South Dakota! I don't have much of a video for this week, so I thought I'd cover a request I got from Northeast Ohio Farmer on doing a demonstration of our 19 speed powershift vs. their powerquad in both of our 7800s. Hope this clears some stuff up, thanks for watching!

I love the powerquad, not much of a jd powershift fan, I do like the magnum powershift, seems a lot smoother and less jerky than the jd powershifts.

Nice, I prefer powershift over power quad myself, because no clutching once in gear and you have better selection of gears

I prefer powerquad in the medium style frame tractors but powershift in the larger frame tractors

I’m a powerquad guy for these tractors as long as they have the right hand reverser instead of the left handed one. But I’m biased with the 7810 we have with one. But the 10 series did the powerquad a bit different than the 00s.

Interesting fact that yall can confirm in the tractors operators manual: you dont have to use the clutch to start out on either and clutch is only required on the quad for shifting ranges. The only reason the "clutch" pedal exists in a powershift is for precise maneuvering when hooking up or operating in confined spaces. Subsequent interesting fact: although there is a "clutch" pedal in power shifts, there is no clutch plate in the transmission; What the pedal is actually controlling is the hydraulic pressure to the clutch packs in the transmission.

So... i have a JD 8300 with powershift, i ALLWAYS use the clutch to change from neutral to forward to reverse, do i need to do that? wouldn't the sudden change from forward to neutral or reverse break something without the clutch? and also i use the clutch alongside the brakes every time i want to stop, is that a correct use?

@@yester8039 no you don’t need the clutch for putting in gear or switching between forward and reverse (called shuddle shifting). John Deere explains it in the 8000 series operating video.

Owned a 7810 19spd. Awful transmission, didnt move until 12th gear, upshift and downshift 1 gear at a time. Think it was Deere's first computer shift. Sold the 7810, kept the 4560 15spd

4:21 I thought that wasn't good for the transmission when you do that, I thought you had to come to a complete stop before shifting gears.

All that is keeping the tractor moving is momentum. If you were to stop or switch directions then wait till the tractor stops. For example you could switch from A to B while still keeping momentum. Just not direction.
