- Fellow "Bay boy," Raphael Saadiq joins us on Sway in the Morning for a conversation about his new album, 'Jimmy Lee,' named after his brother who he lost to drug addiction. Growing up in Oakland, where crack houses were on the same block as where he lived, and having siblings who were addicts, Saadiq opens up about how he chose to stay away from drugs.
While in-studio, he opens up about addiction in the music industry, Prince and Michael Jackson's fatalities, and working with Issa Rae on Insecure.
Before he left, Raphael Saadiq dropped a special surprise on us, confirming that Tony! Toni! Toné! is indeed coming back together!

So they did do a biopic on the group’s beginning called Loyalty No Royalty. It’s on RUclips with more than a quarter of a million views. THERE WERE ORIGINALLY 6 MEMBERS. I will warn you that it’ll have you thinking a little differently when you learn what happened behind the scenes.

When he said he named the title of his new album after his brother that was an addict, I cried, when you’re an addict, you feel like the whole world is against you and no one loves you. I love the fact that he said HE LOVED HIS BROTHER EVEN THOUGH HE WAS AN ADDICT!!! I am a recovering addict, On June 4 this year, I have been clean from my drug of choice for 20 years and everyday in some kind of way I remind myself to remember what I went/put myself through cause I know at any given moment I can fall. Looking at Raphael speak about Jimmy was a beautiful thing!!! I love you even more now Brother Raphael!!! THANK YOU 🙏🏾✊🏾

He came to the hospital mainly because his band member was sick but he was concerned about me. he met my mom gave me a autograph I kept it until it fell apart.
