Last helmet is honestly just better without the wings, it's just extra weight and makes it super easy to get grappled with. The first one and the sallet deserve more respect imo

The myth of the horned Teutonic knight goes back to the 1930s Soviet movie Alexander Nevesky which is about the German expansion into Slavic lands. The great helm (both the regular and winged one) are aesthetically pleasing… however that flat stovetop surface is asking for a moderately powerful breeze to come along and shatter the wearers neck/spine. The Sallet and Round-Kettlehelm ( *the later of which* I did not see!) need more love.

Add to it a small face plate in place of the nose protector and you get winged hussar helemet which might be the one of the latest uses of it . And it goes back to early roman empire, just add horisontal ridge, remove nose protector and change lobster tail for rigid protector. If you wanna go punic wars then just make it out of bronze and remove back protection. Centuries of evolution.

But how much can I see with it and how much can I breathe with it?
Sallets actually has great visibility and you can breathe just fine since that isn't a full enclosed helmet, but are separated into two parts, the helmet itself and the neck guard
The Spangenhelm variant that is closer to a Nasal Helm with the nose part removed and replaced parts going around the eyes, along with chain mail to protect the neck is peak medieval drip
I detest that number 5 gets a pass, as far as I’m aware that helmet design is almost completely fantastical and not featured in any medieval art nor have any such helmets been found.
