    That gunner deserve a round of beer from the entire flight. Also, that one poor paratrooper who landed in the river...

      I'd blame the dummkopf who put the LZ next to a river. Still, there's a chance he survived.

      There are weak currents and shallow water in a river, and fallschirmjaeger are the most experienced infantrymen, so they should know how to swim and ditch gear quickly.

    You don't see this kind of plane getting flown often in gameplay videos of this game. Good to see you give the Ju 52 some love.

    Talk about a fantasy mission! Ju 52’s carrying out a daylight parachute drop in summer 1944. They would have run into 40 Allied fighters, not 4, and been slaughtered.

      Not really. They did smaller scale drops somewhat frequently, with even a large scale one occurring during the Argonne Offensive.

    I've often wondered why the Junkers company was so determined to make fixed landing gear happen on so many of their aircraft. They certainly did something right with the 52, though, since some of them are still active in commercial service.

    Growing up, a gentleman in my area owned "Iron Annie" a Junkers 52.
    It was a fixture at all of our local airshows.
    I loved seeing that lumbering warbird with its three motors growling over my hometown.
    Sometimes some AT-6 Texans disguised as A6M Zeroes would show up. They had been used in the classic movie :Tora, Tora, Tora.
    Good times.

    That's a good thing... "Diversity."
    You don't always have to be in a fighter, flying in intense battles. Bombers, troops, cargo, are good alternatives for a slower, 'milk run,' approach to flying.
    Slow and low means you get to enjoy the scenery as well, besides seeing the tops of clouds!

    When the American pilot hit the silks at 6:20, he had a rough go of it trying to get clear of the aircraft. His legs went through the propeller and chute was tangled in the wing 🤔. #GranddadsWarStories

      Yeah, I'm pretty sure that, in real life, his parachute would've gotten tangled up with the plane and it would've dragged him down.

    All that effort to have a flight of Ju52s and the setup. Messed up with Fw190a's on the ground and P51d attacking. So sad with the poor time frame equipment. Why couldn't they have had ME109 at the base and be attacked by Spitfires or Hurricanes?

    why does a game like IL-2 not model germans with german parachute. eg. 1 line to the back instead of allied 2 lines going to the shoulders?

    • @timonsolus

      These are German paratroopers in 1944 (anti-historical I know). By then the Germans had figured out that the one line parachute was a terrible design.

    What's the minimum altitude for A German paradrop?

    • @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo
      @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo 2 года назад

      @Calum Little Today's parachutes take about 900 ft to open. The minimum altitude for US parachutists is 2 500 ft.

    • @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo
      @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo 2 года назад

      @Calum Little you talk about drops, I talk about paradrops. The Webster definition for that is "delivery of cargo, emergency supplies, or personnel by parachute from an airplane in flight".

    • @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo
      @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo 2 года назад

      @Calum Little not 'by parachute' and 'by airplane in flight'

    • @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo
      @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo 2 года назад

      Ah, I found the info. Minimum jump altitude was 80 - 100 m AGL, depending on the parachute type. Which is surprisingly low. Windspeed had to be max 6 m/sec. It took 30 m / 2.3 sec for the chute to open fully. There was no reserve chute and no steering. Only light equipment could be worn.

    • @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo
      @Pierluigi_Di_Lorenzo 2 года назад

      @Calum Little 2 500 ft is correct for today's US sport parachutists/skydivers.
