My grandfather flew 43 combat missions in the B-26 Marauder with the 344th BG, 9th Air Force, from Market Garden to the end of the war. He received the Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters and a Unit Citation. Sure wish we was still around to see stuff like this. Great video!
Sweet bomber w/ a bad rep. Fun in sim for anti-shipping work. I did a 'Stigler' in Aces High w/ 3 B-26s. Shot down the 2 AI wingmen and the player's lead plane was streaming fuel. First time in game I approached a bomber whose guns were slack and didn't return fire, even when I orbited close. I looked for excuses NOT to attack; but I had plenty of ammo and fuel. Finally, I wing-waved him and left. Other player's joked about how I'd lost my "Killer instinct". 5 years later I heard about Brown and Stigler. So, whaddayaknow, it happened in real life. Sorry about the length of this comment.
Thankfully for him, the bugs were worked out by then. I hope that he shared and you recorded tales of his service. Many of today's younger folk don't understand the sacrifices that people were willing to make for their country, and should be shared w/ kids in school now. Help then understand that they should be grateful for previous generations did for them so that they can enjoy living in the US.
My uncle was also a B-26 pilot, 50+ missions, lost on the first (and last) B-26 night mission after a suspected V-1 headquarters in France in August 1944. They lost 11 out of 33 planes outright and 5 that made it back never flew again. The Brits had been after them to do night missions for some time. Bad idea. The B-26 was best at medium altitude precision bombing. Hoping for a flyable version of the plan in Great Battles at some point.
You don't see too many WW2 (European Theater) aircraft video games featuring the Marauder, most of them use the Flying Fortress or Liberator. I'm glad to see this often-ignored bomber being used in this game, it's a great tribute the service it provided.
Actually, that would be inaccurate for a Flight Officer to be flying one. The first Malcom Hoods were not equipped on ETO Mustangs until March of '44, and then only by Group and Squadron Commanders. It was a few months before they had enough for them to be widely equipped. By then, the P-51D was already replacing the B/C.
Absolutely LOVE the P51 Mustang, it's my all time fav fighter plane of ww2, just made this a great Friday night for us viewers. You really should do a series with this aircraft, the P51 will serve you better than you can dream of, I fly this ALL the time when I play IL 2 1946. I intend to fly this in the great battles series REALLY soon. Do a series on this plane, you'll not go wrong with this beauty.
untill you dump the entire ammunition load into a BF109 and the pilot gives you the finger before happily flying away to tell his story of the shitty american plane... yes this happens in great battles i have video clips to prove it
@@anthro124 yea but ever german main in mp swears that they just kill instantly. I once shot down a 109 on finnish server who was afk. It took 5 whole seconds of shooting him before he went down
@@anthro124 Well, yeah.. that is true, good point also. Still.. I do love this aircraft non the less. That's happened to me also so I know what you mean.
@@barca227bc3 seen and heard cases of that also, but the speed, long flight range, climb and dive does at least give the p51 some really enjoyable traits in air operations. Do know what you and Daniel Smith are saying though, please don't misunderstand.
@@anthro124, that didn't happen very often in RL. Due to the higher muzzle velocity of the .50 cal round, each bullet hit with very close to the same amount of force as a German 20mm shell. When you add the fact the higher muzzle velocity made it easier to hit moving targets, AND the fact the higher rate of fire put a LOT more rounds into the target than the 20mm, even having just four .50s (Mustang Bs and Cs) was extremely deadly. Having six of them (P-51D) or even EIGHT of them (P-47) made it even worse. NOW, if you look at the British rifle caliber (.303) MGs, THEY were pretty weak. The Russian pilots who flew British lend-lease planes used to complain that all the .303s were good for was taking the paint off the German planes.
Iis it just me or do those bombers not get featured very much on IL2 vidoes? ive watached quite a lot of IL2 content but i dont remember seeing them before.
Good stuff, Taff. Good shooting! Go for a career series, please. Just curious, how do you find the mustang as a gun platform compared to other fighters you've flown? One reason I ask is you were overshooting a couple 190s pretty quickly. That can get you 20mm in the gut, ol' chap! Better to yank the stick back and zoom away. Also, check 6 more often.
Classic IMC disorientation. Gotta get on the instruments IMMEDIATELY. Even with modern instrumentation and navaids, a ridiculous number of private (and commercial) pilots--and their passengers--get killed by this very mistake--keeping eyes outside too long once the horizon is lost.

My great grandfather was a Marine Infantryman that fought in at the very least Okinawa, Iwo Jima, and Guadalcanal
That is awesome. I would love to hear his stories. Also would love to hear him ask the devs to make B-26 flyable haha

Your opening narratives always add a special dimension to your gaming. I hope you'll write a book or two based on your gameplay one day.
If he likes the idea, i can watch the older videos and try to write something
Excellent video Taff! This really needs to be a series 👌 😉
I like the intro setting the overall scenario / history - nice addition!!
Happy to see you flying. I was re-watching Alfy West. I miss Rise of flight.
But, you're back in the cockpit, so all is well
Delighted to see a new Il-2 career.

Interesting to see a USAAF P-51B Mustang with a British style bubble canopy.

@@odonovan : Good to know, I suspected as much. Thanks.
Always love and look forward to a Taff IL-2 video
Nice flight Taff, thank you, this looks exciting
A series of this would be a great compliment to the B17 series, both side of the same coin.
Careful there hot shot, you're making rookie mistakes that will eventually remove you from the war too early. Nice shooting.
Keep overshooting your target and get your guts blown out with 20 mm rounds. Great video though.

Big time results for the young flight officer, who is from my home state to boot! 🤠 I will be right back here awaiting the next adventure.
Luca says Hi from the afterlife...😁
If you had stuck with the Major, he might still be alive. If you're going to get in that close, synchronize your guns.
I think that Taff should try shorting the convergence on his guns as well. Maybe just a few missions to see how he likes it.
Great dogfighting taff! Lov to hear the sounds of the P-51's guns! lol
Perfect timing for my birthday.
Need to work on that closure speed~ great video
Strong debut - 3 kills!
Excellent work. And returned the aircraft without any holes in it. 😂
I have never seen clouds this dense in this game.

Hi Taff good video but the intro voice was a bit on the quiet side.
What about some p 47 action?
SERIES OR BUST
You are a dangerous flyer. Yo get to close to your targets. Beware..
👍

first
You did a convincing American accent in the intro, including the clumsy French pronunciation. Ha!
no yank voice over please, otherwise great ep
That is the intro to the campaign. Lmao I'm surprised how many people watch these videos and don't play the game
Awesome. Is this VR Taff?
You still get too close b4 firing
You have to shoot close with 50s in il2 GB or you use half your ammo on 1 guy
