I don't know if it's available in the game but I wouldn't mind seeing a P-47 ground attack series. I know they don't do quite as well as the dogfighting fighters though but you may get a bit of both the the P-47s 🙂
Nice mission. Unless you are personally leading them, the AI fighters in your flight seem incapable of defending an unladen bomber squadron. Thanks for showing the landings, esp. of damaged aircraft on both sides. Richard(Dick) Bong is in the Pacific with his P-38 shooting down Imperial Japanese aircraft. His score will reach 40, at which point he was transferred to the U.S. jet fighter program as a test pilot.
@@charlesfaure1189such a shame. A great pilot wasted on a death trap of a plane. Even with advanced intelligence and materials from the British, the best Lockheed could do was the P80 - fragile and useless, it was slower and accelerated worse than the Me262, and when it saw action in the Korean War, 368 of them were lost, only securing 41 aircraft victories. Shoddy engineering and design all around
Yes indeed. That's the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6/R6 with 2 x 13 mm machine guns and 3 x 20 mm cannon. It has about 3 times as much firepower as the P-51B Mustang. But the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-8 is even deadlier as it has a 4th 20 mm cannon.
Great episode taff, 2 more victories to the belt. Interesting to see the FW190s performing the fighter bomber role, must be getting desperate now that Enemy bomber losses are rising and operational aircraft numbers are dwindling. Always happens to us fliers, get fixated on fighters and we lose track of our real objectives, happened to me a good number of times. Great episode, loving the series, got another medal now.. Well deserved to becoming a double ace. Looking forward to the next episode.
The squadron is doing very well. 8 aces and 1 double ace - yourself. That 109 pilot was definitely an old, very experienced hand. Curious about one thing. I wonder whether the game AI takes into account that allied pilots this late in the war all have G-suits. As far as we know Germany didn't have any G-Suits until after the war. So, it's likely that 109 pilot had a worse time than you.
They had raised foot pedals which was supposed to help. I have not found any materials from former German pilots on how well this handled fighting blacking-out.
IL-2 does take G-suits into account. In the game I believe the P-51B/C does not have them. The P-51D and several of the other late war American planes do, but no Germans do. The 109 had a reclined seating position, which is a unique and very modern way of reducing G stress you see on aircraft like the F-16, and way ahead of its time. Not sure if that's modelled in the game (not that it would be as good as G suit)
You are under investigation for possible Court Marshall charges for dereliction of duty. You left cover formation which resulted in the loss of three bombers as well as crewmen. Until the investigation is over, you are restricted to base and non flying status. “You had one job, protect the bombers. Instead you broke formation and went after targets in no way related to protecting the bomber formation. If I had my dithers you would lose your wings right now and be reprimanded to general services. As it is you will be investigated by Division staff in the coming days.” Take those days and think of the lost crewmen whom depended on you following your orders.
What if they gave a war and no B-17s came? (prospective movie title) 19:36 - NOPE! Not the "USA Air Force." It's the US Army Air Corps of the United States Army Air Forces. The Air Corps was the "combat arm" (fighter and bomber branch) of the USAAF. 21:13 - He's NOT in 40th position. He's tied for 37th. You have to look at those who have the same number of kills as him, and use the top of THAT list, to get his accurate ranking. 21:32 - If they wouldn't be able to report on it, how would they know he would have ten kills? HELLO??? +tap tap+ Is this thing on? 😁😁😁
I think that list ranks the ties in order of who reached the number first. So, Wilson Overton is 40th because 3 other pilots with 10 kills each got their 10th kill before he did.
I'm outraged! Overton abandons his bombers, abandons his squadron mates, goes off glory hunting while the bombers get absolutely slaughtered, and gets an Oak Leaf to his DSC instead of the courtmartial he deserves, followed by loss of his wings, demotion to buck private, and transfer to the infantry? This career should be finished in Call of Duty, not Il-2.
Obviously, some general ordered Overton's squadron commander to let Overton off. Court martialling a double ace pilot would be bad for morale, and very bad publicity. Historically, it was very common for USAAF fighter pilots to get their fangs out as soon as they saw the enemy, forget about their escort role, and go off hunting for kills. The Luftwaffe had the same problem during the Battle of Britain in 1940, and it contributed to their losing a lot of bombers, which were weakly armed and couldn't defend themselves.
Bet you put the fear of god in that first 190
Oddly, the lack of evasive maneuvers on the part of the 190 AFTER being hit makes it seem as if he did not know he was even being hit.

I would also love this
Good shoot downs
Thay first 190 gained a valuable lesson in watching your six.

And got killed in a P-80.
@@charlesfaure1189 Yeah. That happens. RIP.
And died the day we nuked Hiroshima.

Those 109 gun pods are lethal.

Will you be doing a Flying Circus career now that the career mode is out?
Waiting for next episode!!! ❤
I was especially impressed by how he has ten flight hours and ten confirmed aircraft kills. The higher-ups are watching closely, no doubt.
Brilliant sortie Taff, thank you!

Great episode!!
you need a set up to play this right?
All of his kills I have seen are pilot kills
Best kind of kill.
I think those are Marauders, not Bostons
👍

Great kill cams
To bad that the game won’t let you escort B17s.

It's the US Army Air Corps of the US Army. At this point it was still an army branch not an independent force. That happened after the war.

The other 7 pilots didn’t stop them while in close proximity, and you want to court martial Overton? Absurd!
Why the f did you go off course and stop doing the that one job you had ? Aka escort the bombers , bet if this was real life you’d be court marshalled
TGIF...and a new Taff in Exile vid too? A perfect way to end the work work.
leaving the bombers and they get hit not good
Shoulda been a courtmartial instead of a DSC.
