This is also one of my favorite Sega arcade games. I used to play the so much on my local movie theater when I was younger. I also have the Wii compilation but I do like playing this with my Sinden light guns via Batocera as well.
I went to akibahara recently and this game was by far my favorite at the arcade. The recoil was so intense that it rubbed a bit of my skin off near the thumb knuckle and i didn't even notice because i was having so much fun.
@@VideoGameEsoterica Sounds like a future video :) I followed this video: ruclips.net/video/iYGPeu3nbKw/видео.html Gist of it is that it has to be done manually in desktop mode. It's not difficult once you have added a couple of games. I will say though that there may be a bit of configuration with controls after you get games running. For example in racing games like Scud Race and Daytona 2 I have changed the thumbstick sensitivity in Steam to "relaxed" as by default it is a bit twitchy.
Playing these types of games in an arcade felt like you were on a theme park ride. I love the Vegas level. There was a big Sega GameWorks arcade there back in the day that I was able to visit once.
One of my absolute FAVORITES. I was SO bummed that we couldn't get this working properly for years due to the encrypted 2D layer graphics. Thanks to the MAME team for figuring out the security board. LA Machineguns was also where I finally figured out how per-vertex fixed shading on Model 3 works. I think it's used in other games but LA Machineguns uses fixed (pre-computed) shading *extensively* all over the terrain. I have one of the actual motorized guns sitting at home (have had it for years) but have never had a chance to try to wire it up and control it via PC. If anyone can help with wiring it up to a power source safely, please contact me. People that haven't played it with the force feedback working (the motors broke easily apparently) are really missing out on the full experience. I think I only saw Gunblade NY once or twice in real life growing up, the first time at Boomtown outside of Reno. It blew me away. I only recall playing LA Machineguns once in 1999 in Padua, Italy. Didn't see it again until it was partially limping along in Supermodel years later. Sega GameWorks in Seattle had it but that sadly shut down a few years ago.
I never knew about this game until last fall. Got to play through it at a huge arcade hall in Amsterdam. Great fun. Super hard though. Thank god it was on freeplay😂 I was taken away by huge the machine was😵
I loved this and GBNY in the arcades. My main issue with the Wii port is that the rumble in the Wiimote couldn't come close to representing the intensity of the recoil from the cabinet-mounted guns in the arcade. One of these days I'm going to build a controller mod to bring that immersiveness home.
Love this game VGE. It looked so smooth and better polished than any rail shooter I came a crossed at the time. I would like to play this again for sure. 8^) Anthony..
The Wii version looked like a blurry mess by comparison, BUT there’s new homebrew mods to disable that blur. Between that and potentially repurposing 3rd party guncon 3 lights for better range/accuracy, this might work really well for playing at home.
Popped this in the Wii the other day for a quick blast, so good. I dunno whether it’s my set up but the graphics were kinda on the dark side. Is that just how it is on the Wii or is something up with my copy/console? Gunblade NY looked fine though. Loving this Sega Model series by the way👍🏻
@@VideoGameEsoterica Yeah, not played in a while and the darkness was very noticeable. Even moreso after watching this video and seeing how nice and bright the arcade version is.
It's disappointing when Sega arcade game we want got a home port, it's exclusive to certain console.PS3 could easily handle this and you can play it with PS Move as well.Throw in PS4, there's a potential for VR version.
Shame we didn't get the third game. I love it, but prefer Gunblade. LA Machine guns is too difficult! It's up there with the best Sega rail / light gun games though. Playing it with recoil is crazy intense.
This is also one of my favorite Sega arcade games. I used to play the so much on my local movie theater when I was younger. I also have the Wii compilation but I do like playing this with my Sinden light guns via Batocera as well.
It’s one of my favs too. Especially for the genre

Haha yeah it’ll make your hands fall asleep too
Been playing this on my SteamDeck. Works well with gyro for aiming 😊
What did you use to set it up? I’ve yet to start with supermodel on deck

I’ll take a peek. It’s been on my list of things to do for forever now
Awesome video, one of the most memorable moments in the arcade was holding the huge gun from this cabinet. Love this game
The cabinet really sold the illusion well
Fun fact: LA Machineguns are just called Machineguns in LA.
Hahaha nice dad joke
God, I love it. These visuals have aged REALLY well for me, and the sense of motion is wonderful. As you say, this is a SPECIAL game.
Model 3 aged the best of any 3D hardware from that era IMO
Outstanding games! I got the Wii ports and they're a blast to play!
The fun factor def holds up
Playing these types of games in an arcade felt like you were on a theme park ride. I love the Vegas level. There was a big Sega GameWorks arcade there back in the day that I was able to visit once.
Vegas had a lot of great arcades for the longest time
We are only a year and 7 months before this game takes place (August 2025). Also I did plau this game years ago though.
It’ll be fun for us all to get our jet packs soon
I LOVE this game ! In fact, I've played it using the WiiMote controller hooked up to the PC to recreate the experience the best I could
Works great with Gun4IR too

I think I I have a schematic for the plastic gun around here somewhwre
@@VideoGameEsoterica I need to figure out how to power it. It requires a higher voltage power source.

It’s def a big cabinet and really sells itself as an “experience”

No the wiimote was always good but could never be great
I have this game for the wii its a great version
It’s awesome it exists
I got the dual pack for the Wii and it's a must have!
I wish it wasn’t so expensive these days
Wow, I've never seen the Gunblade sequel. Very impressive!
It’s a ton of fun. Def play it!
Love this game VGE. It looked so smooth and better polished than any rail shooter I came a crossed at the time. I would like to play this again for sure. 8^)
Anthony..
It’s super polished. This was really Sega’s golden era IMO
Nice, I love on rail shooters!
One of my fav genres too
More lightgun heaven! Sega were the masters of the genre.
Now if they’d just make more!

The Wii def needs a little deblur to look it’s best

It’s darker than on Model 3 for sure
@@VideoGameEsoterica Yeah, not played in a while and the darkness was very noticeable. Even moreso after watching this video and seeing how nice and bright the arcade version is.
Just the conversion to Wii made it suffer in that dept
Fun
supermodel has supersampling now :p
I hadn’t heard that
@@VideoGameEsoterica add -ss 4 to the command line for example :) Requires very fast gpu

Maybe one day Sega will dust the series off and give it one more shot
Model 3 is more impressive than the Dreamcast, imo. I see Dreamcast as Model 2.5.
It def can outperform in spots
