      @Kriss_ch. Год назад +30

      It was sold as a game where you talk with and befriend the monsters, so to me it was pretty obvious from the get-go that the right way was to not kill anyone. You're told as much in the tutorial area as well. Even just mechanically, attacking is really one-note while the options where you talk are varied, fleshed out and funny. Pretty similar to several Metal Gear Solid games, where you _can_ play it like a shooter, but it's clear that that's not the strength of the game. It's just a thematically appropriate option. Joe figured so as well, he just messed up a couple times.
      It's nice that the game has a built in way of telling you how to get to the good ending if you messed up a few times though, without reprimanding you much, and either way to go through is fine. When people kill all the enemies I don't feel like they're picking up what the game is putting down, but there's a unique experience in doing that, too.

      @@ranid0072 I feel sorry for you and how you are unable to see that many games made by smaller studios have heart put into them. Hyper Light Drifter, Rain World, Hollow Knight, Celeste, Noita, OneShot, Outer Wilds, Journey, even Terraria -- the one thing that hasn't varied in these facts is the fact that the developers put so much of their heart and dreams into the games. There's Hakita, making the soundtrack for the second Gabriel fight in a single day, to meet schedule with the release of Act 2 of ULTRAKILL. Just Shapes and Beats entirely acknowledges that you can't always afford the game, and if it detects piracy, just asks that you spread the word, and has incredible production quality. No Man's Sky might have had a poor launch, but is now a game well deserving of a $60 price tag, the studio having spend 7 years on what might have otherwise been a dead-end title. Hell, at one time, even Valve was an indie studio, and you'd have a damn hard time convincing most people that Half-Life, the game that propelled them into the future, is a bad game.
      Rather, it's AAA games that have fallen into the pattern of recycling the same old things, never innovating. You look around, and it's simply a shallow attempt to drain your wallet. I've given up on AAA games somewhat as a result of this. Minecraft moving to implement microtransactions on every level. Overwatch 2 being at best a reskin with a cosmetic shop and at worst entirely unplayable with a cosmetic shop. Anthem, on launch *literally* unplayable, with Charlie giving the single most scathing review I remember him ever giving.
      It's not small games that are bad, but the large ones, due to corporate corruption and CEO overcompensation. Small studios have a vision, and all big studios have is a wallet -- and they want yours too.
      Please play any of the games I mentioned in the first paragraph. These are just a few examples of indie games that have broken the glass ceiling, and will probably put you on an incredible experience. I explicitly didn't bring up Undertale here, as a point to how, while it certainly is a modern artifact, it's not alone in having gone far beyond what people might expect for indie games.
      Certainly, some games are poor scams. Plenty of those do exist, but there exist many more amazing games, to where I'd argue that good games make up the majority of indie games. At their core, someone is expressing a vision they have of something they want to make, and if it's free, it's entirely for their own benefit.

    Joe is probably the only person on any platform to have the ideal experience as a viewer. It helps that he turned his chat off, but just in general. That he's skilled, he takes the game seriously and indulges it when prompted. Watching this was actually like getting to experience it for the first time again vicariously.
    I find his perspective often lacking because he can't help but overanalyze every single moment and forgive nothing when that part of his brain is on even when a game emotionally resonates, but Undertale systematically broke those walls down. Very impressed. What a great playthrough to watch.

    Oh my god. You have no idea how happy I am to see a playthrough of Undertale that is untouched by an audience or spoilers. Seriously. Every let's player in 2015 when they played this game were at least spoiled on the fact that sparing everyone is the good ending and they should do it first. Seeing someone actually make choices and get a neutral ending that is their own experience is so rare. Thanks for uploading this.

    I love the idea of a world where your level of hatred/killing intent towards someone affects your strength against them, wish they'd used that more.

    • @Winasaurus
      @Winasaurus 8 месяцев назад +2

      It's funny that the only game where I can even think of a similar concept is Doom, where the Slayers sheer hatred let him survive things that would kill anyone else, and rip demons apart bare-handed. So funny goat mom game and doom have a link I guess.
      But yeah I wish they used that as more of a mechanic. That if you IMMEDIATELY attack you gain a huge damage boost, the implication being you couldn't care less for any of the other information, you just want them dead. Might even tacitly encourage people toward genocide route if they realise they can beat fights fast that way.

    • @solidzack
      @solidzack 8 месяцев назад

      Not exactly what you're talking about, but in Bioshock you can choose to either save or harvest the little sisters. By harvesting, you get more ADAM and become strong faster, but kill the children in the process and miss out on the good ending. By saving them you get less ADAM immediately but get rewarded with more ADAM in the long run, and you can achieve the good ending. If you harvest ALL of them touch though, the bad ending gets a little more evil tonally. Also, harvesting is much faster and easier than saving in Bioshock 2, so that's something that these two franchises have similar.
