The “cooling technique” is so sick. Definitely gonna try that one
grading plan...
(don't mind me, this is just a reminder list for myself, so that I can read it and incorporate your tips into my process, when I'm following along with this tutorial)
[CAMERA]
1) get my exposure triangle right. i.e. shutter speed, iso, aperture.
2) fix my white balance in camera using a pure white card.
3) overexpose by 2 stops
4) shoot in a flat picture profile
5) hold a black , a white card, and a neutral grey card while filming, so that the the pure black pixels, and the pure white pixels come in handy while fixing the exposure in post...
[COLOUR CORRECTION / ADJUSTMENT LAYER 1]
6) use lumetri colour to reduce the black, and bring up the white, until the parade touches 0 & 100 respectively.
7) draw a mask around my gray card, to isolate it. Then, use the temperature and the tint sliders to bring the vector scope in center.
8) use the white balance eyedropper on my pure white card to further make a tiny final adjustment to my white balance...
just in case....
10) draw a mask on the skin.
11) use the hue vs hue eyedropper on my skin, then use those hue vs hue points to fix the skin tones, and to bring the skin tones in the center of the flesh line in the vector scope..
12) make another point on yellow, in hue vs hue, to further fix the yellow parts of the skin, and to bring the skin tones in the center of the flesh line in the vector scope.
13) use HSL Secondary to isolate the skin tone
14) then use color wheels and the vector scope to further make an adjustment to the skin tones.. and make sure the skin tones stay on the center of the flesh line in the vector scope.
[COLOUR GRADING / ADJUSTMENT LAYER 2]
15) use hue vs sat,
mark the reds where the skin tones are.
Then desaturate the purple,
desaturate the green by just a little bit,
and desaturate the yellow by just a little bit.
16) use hue vs hue to bring down the bring down the greens to a more minty shade.
and then bring up the blues and reds just a little bit..
17) isolate the skin tones using HSL Secondary, then invert the selection, then reduce the temperature just a little bit, and also reduce the saturation.
18) push blue into the shadows of the whole image
19) use the luma vs sat curve to desaturate the black and whites.
20) add a very subtle vignette
21) duplicate the entire clip, add a black and white filter to the top clip, change the blending mode of the black and white clip to overlay, and reduce it's opacity to 10% for a subtle "clarity" effect.
22) reduce the opacity of the grading adjustment layer to 95% just to make the grade, a tiny bit less dramatic...
23) add a very small amount of sharpness.
You can start a RUclips channel. You're qualified
@@stefansalvatore3258 I already have one 😅. this is my new editing plan
You have explained HSL Secondary way better than most people who use Davinci , I personally use Davinci Resolve and I learned it through you rather than other people btw you’re insane when it comes to grading , killing it !! Small subtle difference but it makes a HUGEEEE difference !
Man thank you so much. I’m glad that you didn’t show us how to make your specific colors. You showed the techniques used to achieve a number of looks. Those are the types of tutorials I look for.
Hi Aidin. Your videos are very helpful.
I use this all the time in Davinci Resolve, and now that I'm temporarily using Premiere Pro alongside it, this was good to know! Thanks for the tutorial, love all the little details put into it. 👍💯
Superb job. I really appreciate how carefully you structured the whole video, and used that that outline to add more and more great techniques onto the explanation of the basics.
Please continue these kinds of videos! This really helps a lot! Thanks a lot Aidin!
I will watch this one again in the future, since I feel it is way too advanced for me. I like how you manage to explain it clearly. I do appreciate it. Gracias como siempre.

Thanks for sharing
Ha, this may have been a "simple video" but it was insanely helpful! Great, helpful and watchable content as always! Thank you!
Great video, Aiden. I live and die by HSL, and you still gave me some great creative tips. I especially like the advice regarding desaturating the background to emphasize the skin tones. Typically, I begin using HSL once I finish my basic colour correction in the Lumetri window including the general colour temp with the sliders. Then to finish it off, I use HSL to fine tune everything for the most accurate look. What are your thoughts on that?
Now that’s what I m talking about 🤙🏻
Very helpful tip for sure. Been using the HSL Secondary, but haven`t really tried to go for a different/moody style to make the skin tones pop out more. I`m excited to try that one out in an upcoming short film :)
Hell yeah! Glad this could give you some new ideas 💪
Thanks 🙏
This video help me a lot, i have problem with hsl secondary and always get some weird noise before.
Glad this could help out!
Great content as always, how did you learned about using which colors in different situations? was it from editing experience or aesthetic sense
I am a very beginners in it.. Thanks
Your Color Grade Game is 1 of the Best if not THE, Best on RUclips!!!!! Beast!!
Thanks so much man!
Thank you
Hi Aidin! Could you also do a tutorial on how you export your colors? I notice a color drop on Mac every time I export. So it's tough to nail the exact colors I want.
I definitely have to get into using these more, they're scary XD
EDIT: 0:13 I made it!
Ahhhh.. the foggy skies...
the late night..
a glass of lassi..
and aidin's cozy professional vibe videos..
damn it feels good
Very nice demonstration on how you use the HSL tool! But I really hate the feedback of those color wheels in premiere 😄
U so kind. I hope lightning brand or whatever give u some coz i know u will explanatio that well
Much needed! I really find it difficult to color grade my footages 😅
Hope this helps out!
Awesome vid. Appreciate the tips. I suggest a little bit of de-essing on your dialog audio in future vids.
4:25 how did you represent the way of selection?
I think you just screen record it
Beautiful!
What lens did you use to get so beautiful BOKEH?
This just opened a whole new can of worms for me. Thanks man!
Graciaas amigo.
Clutch!
you got SENT a 120d?!! Congrats man that’s awesome
Hey Aidin, I recently brought A7III. Can you make a video how to color correct Slog3 footage and thankyou this video will really help me while color grading.
Exactly the same way boss :)
