All the players you mentioned were 4 of the most legendary Montreal Canadiens ever. First of all, Howie Morenz who ran away from his home in Stratford at 16 was first recruited to join the Canadiens in 1923 and played with them for most of his career. He actually ended up dying from a blood clot that formed in his leg that he broke in his last game in 1937. And Rocket Richard was probably the greatest Montreal Canadien of all because of how much he was loved by the fans. He was the first player to score 50 goals in a season (he did it in 50 games) and the first to score 500 career goals. He was probably the most popular french-canadian in Quebec in the 40s and 50s when he played. And even if you ask young francophones, they will know who the Rocket was because of how great he was. Beliveau has also won the most total Stanley Cups (17, 10 as a player and 7 as an executive) and lafleur was also a wonderful player. Sadly even the last few of them have passed away, as Lafleur was the last one and he died last year. All were wonderful players.
Dont forget that the rocket Richard achieved all you mentioned with broken wrists and fractured ankles. He also worked in a factory as a second job to be able to feed his family. French canadiens were seen as second class citizens at the time with the arena being seperated with a fence where one side is french and the other english. He was also paid less than an english speaking rookie despite being the best player in the game, with footage showing a referee holding him while a NY Rangers dude beats the shit out of him. He is seen as a Legend and most french canadiens have watched the movie made about him. He is our best example of us Quebecois not ever giving up despite the world around us being against us. Im a 25 year old french canadien that went to an english school, and even then people would shit on me just because of the language I grew up speaking. My english was actually pretty good yet when they learned I was a french canadien, that was enough of a reason to make me an outcast, making me just really confused as a kid since some of the guys that turned on me were my friends until they learned I was a francophone…
@@yesnotoaster7438 Everything you said was completely right. Richard was kind of a hero in Montreal and maybe even in Quebec because he was the best hockey player in the world and he was French Canadian. Such a great player.

Monkland (Villa Maria metro) is a great street to visit, lots of restaurants, shops, cafés etc. Have you tried bagels yet? Someone mentioned the Turkish restaurant Avesta which is near Atwater. I second that recommendation! Great place.
I liked the vibes when I visited montreal for sure. That exact same spot you walked by with the military gun, and big church on the hill. My hotel was by there. Awesome. I always got breakfast at universel dejeuners as sort of a home base. Kind of rushed but saw most of the main attractions I think

René Lévesque was the prime minister of Québec from 1976 to 1980. He was the one who founded the Parti Québecois (PQ) and he was the one who had the idea to separate Québec from the rest of Canada. Unfortunately, when he asked this question to the people, the didn't want to separate and the results were 40% yes and 60% no. Lévesque died in 1987. However, the story doesn't end here, because another prime minister (also in PQ) asked the same question in 1995. This man was Jacques Parizeau, and he was greatly inspired by Lévesque. The results were 49,42% yes and 50,58% no, so Québec remained a province. Even today, René Lévesque inspires a whole lot of people, and a lot of us québecois hope that one day Québec will become an independant country, and its all thanks to René.
In Montreal, every borough has its own vibe, to say the least. Another thing, when people say taxes are a little higher than in other provinces, that’s true, but most other things cost less, so it pretty much balances all out, if we count every cost-of-living metric. And as “national sport”, we do like to “b!tch” about all of those perceived cons, barely mentioning the pros, like how that guy said living here is expensive, clearly indicating that he never lived in Toronto or Vancouver
Thanks for sharing your impressions so far. As a Torontonian who had also considered moving there I’m interested to see your ongoing perspective as you settle in. I love Montreal and visit there every year. It was kind of ironic to bump into that guy who’s actually thinking of moving TO Toronto :)
If you like French architecture I suggest you come in my home town Quebec City to see the old Quebec full of ancient French architecture and to see the Château Frontnac .
Thanks for the tour Ali. Another odd thing about Montreal. I don't know if they still do it, but everyone's lease is up July 1st. So lots of moving going on then.
3:58 René Lévesque was the Prime minister of Quebec from 1974 to 1985 and the founder of the Parti québecois (party in the provincial government) In 1980, he does the first referendum, which asked people if they wanted that the province of Quebec starts negotiating with the federal government to become independent, after which there would have been a second referendum to confirm that people want to be independent. The “no” won with 59.6% of the votes (because the federal government promised that they would try to fix Canada if people voted no), however he pretty much gave birth to the sovereignty movement in Quebec. A series of events following Canada retrieving its constitution in 1982 (before that it was a British law so they needed the Parliament’s approval for every change and all the provinces signed the new constitution without Quebec in the middle of the night as negotiations were too slow) led to the second referendum of 1995. Asking people if they want Quebec to immediately become independent this time, it almost passed since the “no” won with only 50.38% of the votes. Basically he played a huge role in Quebec’s history, that’s why you can see his name in quite a few places Edit 1: I’m not done watching so I’ll edit a few times. I love playing hockey, but I never managed to consistently watch any sport on TV. However when I ask hockey fans if they like the Habs, they always tell me that they suck. It’s kinda true, they didn’t win the Stanley cup since 1993. You should be fine if you keep supporting the Maple Leafs lol Edit 2: 9:45 the gun appears to be a British QF 25 pounder, which is from the Second world war. It seemed too small and modern to be from WW1, especially the sight, the shield and the base that allows the gun to be rotated. Most artillery pieces from WW1 were huge and didn’t have any shields because they were used far behind the frontlines. Edit 3: 12:36 I think this statue was built to thank the volunteers who participated in the Boers war. At the time there was a tough argument between English-speaking imperialists and French-Canadian nationalists, so the prime minister, Wilfrid Laurier, did compromises to satisfy the two groups. The imperialists wanted to help the British Empire no matter what, while the nationalists didn’t want to participate in any war until Canada can control it’s external politics (trade with other countries on its own, declare war, etc.), so Laurier decided that instead of putting up conscription he would only send volunteers there. From what I remember the war basically happened because the colons in that part of South Africa wanted to be independent, and Great Britain didn’t appreciate the revolution. Unfortunately Canada would be forced to participate in both world wars. In WW1 a lot of people would be conscripted starting from 1917 as losses were heavy and volunteers stopped pumping in. WW2 was a bit brighter, as conscription started in 1945 but for most people the war would be over by the time you train, are sent overseas and to the frontline.
Hey! Know that im a bit late, but Welcome to Montreal! Hope you'll enjoy this City! You should do a video in the Old Port. Probably the most beautiful place Overall in Montreal.
As a native Montrealer who has also lived in Ontario for much of my life, I can tell you that apartments and houses are much cheaper in Montreal than Toronto, taxes on everything else are higher. René Levesque was the first leader of the Parti Québecois (PQ) and was also the Quebec premier from 1976 to 1984. The PQ is a separatist party and Levesque led them into a referendum on whether Quebec should separate from Canada in 1980.

@datoki7589 its expensive because it's better and more people want to live there than what they can keep up with. Simple economics. To automatically claim a city is bad or worse just because YOU can't afford to live there is narrow minded of him

Can you do a video on the differences between east and west Canada? I mean, I know little about Canada and I'm curious, because you describe such a difference just between Toronto and Montreal and they're not that far apart.
No matter where outside in Toronto you have something bad to say about it. But in in this city where you are now living happily! You can just say something good about this city for 3 hours non-stop.

Work from home has killed downtown Montreal (and many other city cores). But pretty soon once temperatures warm up the city does come alive like no other in North America.
I went to Montreal 9 years ago, i was with my family seeing a part of the country we hadn't seen before which included the 1000 islands, Perth, Niagara Falls & of course the city of Montreal, rainy & in the midst of the so called traffic cone season.
Montreal is the canadian capital of culture of 400 years , architecture, history , art and that is all you have to say about the world class city of Montreal ... i guess humanity is becoming stupid.
Sorry for not seeing everything in a day.
I hope you enjoy living in Montreal. I've always eanted to visit French Canada but I'm intimidated by the language barrier since I don't speak French.
The interaction at 13:05 is killimg me lmao. They probably thought that you were filming them ahahah
i legit watched this video to see these streets again
I was waiting for that video so much! I hope you like it better here.
And I love that you’re learning French!
Edit: We have the most Stanley’s cup, but yeah the sad thing is that we’ve not had one for ages
It is so much better here for sure
@@TheAliKoca That’s nice! I live right South of Montreal so I probably won’t have much luck in seeing you, but I still hope it happens.
I think that you would enjoy Plateau Mont-Royal, Rosemont, Villeray, explore , you will find amazing places and amazing people.
Quite enjoyed the ramble/walk. Interesting too. I do find it funny when people from The States and nearby are astonished by anything older than 200 years :)
Hello my friend, welcome to Montreal!
I have been following you for a while, love your videos!
Hope you enjoy the stay here!

If you drink coffee, have you been to any coffee shops you like? There are TONS!! A few popular ones are: The Standard, Melk, Open Da Night (look it up!), Espresso 1720, Café Mercanti. Monkland (Villa Maria metro) is a great street to visit, lots of restaurants, shops, cafés etc. Have you tried bagels yet? Someone mentioned the Turkish restaurant Avesta which is near Atwater. I second that recommendation! Great place.
Beautiful
Absolutely
I liked the vibes when I visited montreal for sure. That exact same spot you walked by with the military gun, and big church on the hill. My hotel was by there. Awesome. I always got breakfast at universel dejeuners as sort of a home base. Kind of rushed but saw most of the main attractions I think
Gotta say I don't mind if the city is empty some days of the week. I live in Athens and it's pretty much crowded everywhere 24/7. And don't let me get started about the traffic, your car will be stuck between neutral and 1st lol. Cheers Ali!
your videos are awesome im now starting to research montreal and move there from alberta keep up the great work buddy
more vlogs plz in montreal
Oh my gosh I haven't been there in 4 years and thanks for sharing
Hey Ali what camera are you using the stability and quality looks amazing
In Montreal, every borough has its own vibe, to say the least.
Another thing, when people say taxes are a little higher than in other provinces, that’s true, but most other things cost less, so it pretty much balances all out, if we count every cost-of-living metric. And as “national sport”, we do like to “b!tch” about all of those perceived cons, barely mentioning the pros, like how that guy said living here is expensive, clearly indicating that he never lived in Toronto or Vancouver
i really like this new style of video you've been doing
"You're not gonna find a single ugly person on this sidewalk."
Awww, thanks
I’m having a very stressful time at school, but this video will help me unstressed thank you
Lol my pleasure, glad you liked it
Hope you are doing well man! Been really enjoying your content. Keep it up.
Thanks for sharing your impressions so far. As a Torontonian who had also considered moving there I’m interested to see your ongoing perspective as you settle in. I love Montreal and visit there every year.
It was kind of ironic to bump into that guy who’s actually thinking of moving TO Toronto :)
In high school I took two years of Spanish and two years of French. Get Babble, you'll be speaking French in no time.
Montreal looks like a fun place to visit. It does remind me of Seattle a bit.
To everyone seeing this I want you to know that God loves you unconditionally and is with you always❤️🙏
If you like French architecture I suggest you come in my home town Quebec City to see the old Quebec full of ancient French architecture and to see the Château Frontnac .

Montreal is a beautiful city! Planning on visiting Montreal this July!
Loving it so far
Thanks for the tour Ali. Another odd thing about Montreal. I don't know if they still do it, but everyone's lease is up July 1st. So lots of moving going on then.
Yes , July 1st is still moving day in Montreal
3:58 René Lévesque was the Prime minister of Quebec from 1974 to 1985 and the founder of the Parti québecois (party in the provincial government)
In 1980, he does the first referendum, which asked people if they wanted that the province of Quebec starts negotiating with the federal government to become independent, after which there would have been a second referendum to confirm that people want to be independent.
Basically he played a huge role in Quebec’s history, that’s why you can see his name in quite a few places
Edit 1: I’m not done watching so I’ll edit a few times. I love playing hockey, but I never managed to consistently watch any sport on TV. However when I ask hockey fans if they like the Habs, they always tell me that they suck. It’s kinda true, they didn’t win the Stanley cup since 1993. You should be fine if you keep supporting the Maple Leafs lol
Edit 2: 9:45 the gun appears to be a British QF 25 pounder, which is from the Second world war.
All those memories!!! I walked up and down that specific area for years XD.
You nailed the Habs down to a tee! We get super hyped up throughout the year, only to lose in the playoffs.
Je te souhaite un excellent sejour!!
Montreal is a good place to live. I lived there for a year and a few weeks, and it’s a great place.
Why did you leave?
you're gonna love it there as a former Montrealer it was worth living there
You must check out Le Central. It is a great eatery and is a must see.
Hey! Know that im a bit late, but Welcome to Montreal! Hope you'll enjoy this City! You should do a video in the Old Port. Probably the most beautiful place Overall in Montreal.
Glad you’re liking it in Montreal 😁 I live here too 👍
love this video, thinking of moving there we love to see move videos like this from you!
Amour de Montréal 🇨🇦🇨🇦
The only time I have ever been to Montréal was to watch the Vegas Golden Knights take on the Montréal Canadians. I think we ended up losing lol!
You are so funny. It is very interesting to see my city with your eyes.
The streets look eerily similar to nyc’s
Lol watch tf out for that vegan teacher over there 😅😅😅😅
My mother grew up in Montreal and said she loved it more than Toronto
She left Toronto in like 2005 btw
Welcome to our great city, enjoy!
Cool never been... so thanks for sharing !
You should vlog yourself walking around old Montreal! :D
Le PQ prône l'indépendance et non la scission tel que perçu par les gens de nature pessimiste
Hi Ali, I’m so happy that u were able to find somewhere u like, (enough at least) for me Montreal looks beautiful! Anyway I started watching u a few months ago and I wanted to say I love the content. As someone who lives in Canada and goes to Toronto sometimes (I’m going to a concert in Toronto in September) i can see why u would want to move. -A Canadian
Appreciate you, thanks very much my dude
@@TheAliKoca ❤ lol I’ve been binging your content lately
Because he is broke 🤣
@@eventusvantos1905 I mean…it’s expensive but also too much for me personally
@datoki7589 its expensive because it's better and more people want to live there than what they can keep up with. Simple economics. To automatically claim a city is bad or worse just because YOU can't afford to live there is narrow minded of him
Apparently it does look as good in winter with lights etc my tenant goes on average 3 to 4 months a year !
Being that i speak French and that i live in Quebec, i can confirm your french isnt that bad
YOOO ! So happy for you liking Montreal!!! I actually live there, and it's soch a nice city ! It's an historical society and architecture! But I live in a place near Montreal, and it's way nicer ! If you want to come over and check it out, you can tell me I'll give u the city! You can go there in car, or on the metro.
Can you do a video on the differences between east and west Canada? I mean, I know little about Canada and I'm curious, because you describe such a difference just between Toronto and Montreal and they're not that far apart.
Maybe, I got some other stuff I want to film first though
@@TheAliKoca No hurry; explore your new space and GL to you Sir.
That would take a few years to properly tell the little differences, not just financially, etc, but everything, even the subtle ones
Everyone gangsta until someone pin point Ali's location
Lmao
I hope you continue learning our language.
No matter where outside in Toronto you have something bad to say about it.
But in in this city where you are now living happily! You can just say something good about this city for 3 hours non-stop.
I probably could, still in the honeymoon phase with this city
I feel like you should do more cool videos like this of walking around the city
Rene Levesque was the first premier from the parti québécois elected in 1976. He was considered the “leader” of Quebec separatism in the 1970s and 1980s
You should visit the old part of Montréal it’s a lot older than the normal Montréal
Across the street from that park is labelle province . Its closing its legendary if its still open help yourself to an amazing poutine
By the way, the man was asking... What is that? What is that for? He meant what are you recording? But ended in a nice conversation 🙂
Bienvenue mon ami :)
Ahhhh I’ve heard it’s a beautiful city looks clean too I’ve been told that there is an amazing array of flowers they decorate the city beautifully ❤ most go and I’m a Canadian lol I don’t care about politics 💯!
