I'm seriously curious why the hesitation to OneNote? Is it because it is MS? I have used OneNote for years and every time a new wanabee comes along I go looking for the next (non MS) best thing, but never find it (I am surprised how few alternatives have built in pdf OCR). I like the relational aspect of Notion and Obsidian but not enough to switch. Anything else (paid or free) has less functionality than OneNote. I understand it depends on your use case, but I don't get the hesitation. Like I said I'm always looking for an alternative.
Evernote was never user friendly but would sync pc to phone so I used it. Now that it's only 1 device it is worthless to me. Moving on. EverNote, If you actually made a simple tree layout with a main password protect ya might have been able to extort a monthly payment from me. Your choppy, clunky, dis-jointed program was ONLY acceptable because it synced pc to phone. I only used to saved text, no pictures. Now you are only another Shitty note program not worth the cost. I'd pay you 89 Cent/month.

I have a use case that can’t be unique. But I haven’t been able to find a good replacement. When I import a PDF into Evernote, either is some thing I originally got as a PDF or some thing I scanned on my printer, Evernote will do character recognition. So shortly after that, PDF is put into one of my folders I can do a search and it will give me that PDF on the result if the word appears. This is the feature that attracted me to Evernote in the first place.

You only have to pay for Obsidians Sync feature if you use it. I store my Obsidian Stuff in a separate folder, and just Sync the folder - BOOM - completely free :D
I'm using notion now, and I'm switching! I loved it at first, able to import all my everotes but a couple huge no's... 1)you cannot search WITHIN a single note for a word. You can only search within all the notes for one word, so once you find the note with that one word, you have to scroll and scroll until you find it... So annoying as I use this for passwords alsom 2)when you go to highlight words/phrases/sentences it's quirky! It won't let you scroll so the way and when you press and hold it moves stuff...why?! It's become more annoying than useful. 3)also there's TOO MANY options I feel. It does too many things I don't need which takes away from usability imo.
You are living up your... Come back to reality. It is so slow that it feels like I am using a phone from the stone age. I swear 10 times before a note opens that I have clicked on, and that is not even the start of aaaall the other problems.
Haha, I get your upset but do you think Evernote is going to miss people bogging up their storage with accounts they refuse to pay for? It is actually a good business move.. I don't know any business that bases their model on the non paying customers?????
I've been with them since 2013 and they did not have a paid model for many years that I saw. So it seems users like me helped them become what they are today and they should not just abandon us non paying customers. We didn't ask for their fancy corporate junk app lol we signed up for the plain Jane free note app they started out as. If they wanted to make a paid version then fine, but it is essentially a different app altogether or at least by 95% that nobody cares to have.

Just installed Evernote. Tried it, tried to open a second notebook and BAM. Only one allowed. Uninstalled it 5 minutes later.

obsidian is pay to sync, but its plain text, they make it easy as dirt to sync with google drive or dropbox
