Love everything Brian Setzer has ever done. His Christmas shows were my favorite concerts each year until he started struggling with tinnitus. Wish him the best always, hope he can overcome it.
This song is so strong, what a hidden gem!!! I was sixteen the year this album was released. I am 54 now hearing this for the first time, and I am just blown away!!! What a huge hit this should have been... Yvonne sounds great, what a perfect band all around.
Great song and video with guys from the Heartbreakers and Max (Kenny Aronoff actually played in the recording) from the E-Street Band. I've seen Setz live many times over the past 2-3 decades, and find it sorry that he never does any of the fine tunes from his 2 first solo albums. This is easily the best song of his short "Mellencamp-era" for sure. Well, I'll put the cover of Summertime Blues to the same late 80's cascet, that screams to be re-opened.
The whole album was viewed as Brian trying to outrun his past with the Stray Cats, who had broken up before he recorded this album. So why didn't _The Knife Feels Like Justice_ chart higher? No one was ready for it; they were used to the Stray Cats!
Not to take anything away from the great work he churned out with the Brian Setzer Orchestra... but I often wonder what similarly awesome music we would have got from BS if this album was a hit.
I remember my parents going to see U2 and Lone Justice was the opening act. I’m writing a screenplay called The Best Mixtape Ever, the soundtrack would include this song, Cock Robin, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, The Pretenders, Los Lobos, Lone Justice.
@@lawrencefeldman7744 I played this entire album all of the time when it first came out. I was a Stray Cats fan as well and thoroughly enjoyed it. I play the album so much (cassette tape) in my car that the tape melted in my JVC tape deck...

I think this song is quite possibly his greatest creation. I started learning guitar in the late 70's....Beatles/Chuck Berry/Rolling Stones/Glenn Miller!...(and free classical gtr lessons at school before Thatcher cancelled them!).... then I saw the Stray Cats on Top of The Pops!!....and then I knew...... everything fell in place....(Eddie, Gene (Cliff), Johnny, Chet, Les, Merle, Jerry.....etc, etc, etc,.....and then Django of course!) ..... but regardless of his later works.....(Swing Revival and Stray Cats revival)...this HAS to be Brian's best original work. Brian needs to remember this before he turns into another has been "Chuck Berry"
This is too bad he didn't do more of this, great songs. Lone Justice was out at the time, Petty was doing pieces like this. I see the Mighty Max on the drums in back here too. Cool.
actually - it's Yvonne Zuaro, who sang vocals on this and 3 other tracks. It is Max, although the actual studio recording is drumming powerhouse Kenny Aronoff.
Still one of my favorite albums, and the best work Brian Setzer ever did, IMO.
Agreed. Such an amazing album!
Love everything Brian Setzer has ever done. His Christmas shows were my favorite concerts each year until he started struggling with tinnitus. Wish him the best always, hope he can overcome it.
I just rediscovered this. Fantastic tune, great album. Setzer is so freaking accomplished. Why isn't he more popular?

It was only seen 155 times until I started listening on repeat for the past five days straight...
One of the great voices of the 80s.
And still.
solo or with the Stray Cats, one of the best. Vastly underrated song. Thanks Brian
I believe that most people are brain dead. Great tune; thank you for posting this.
Should have been a big hit. Great song. Remember watching it on Much Music in Canada back in the day. Loved the 12 string part in the song.
Beautiful powerful song which should've been a top ten hit.

this was an awesome song...i am surprised it never charted higher on the charts
Agreed. That chorus just tears right through me.

I surprisingly just discovered this. What an amazing song!
Check out the album.
Great guitar solo!

I saw Lone Justice do this song opening for U2. Maria McKee the lead singer was brilliant. Great tune!!

Why does this only have 155 views???? Criminal.
Looks like Mighty Max Weinberg on drums...Springsteens drummer
Amazing music
@@stevestrauss391im not a huge Springsteen fan but that’s some solid drumming
I think this is the best he has ever done.
Great song.
great to hear this again .....need to have the cd......powerful
This is on a mixed tape with Cock Robin, Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, The pretenders, Los Lobos, Lone Justice…etc. Best mixed tape ever!!!!
I was in a cover band in the 80s. We played this every night. We liked it. The audience? Had never heard it. Cleared the dance floor every time.
A friend of mine had the same experience. He sang and played it perfectly. No one cared.
I loved this entire album. Loved Stray Cats as well but never understood why this didn't take off and fly.
This sort of country rock is so underrated :(

I loved this song from day one. Listen to the Red Rockers or the Blasters if you love this
Great song! Great mullets!
Very cool song. I always liked since it actually came out.
Rock Art And The X-Ray Style? Who put that on there? Joe Strummer or MTV? Lol!
Lyrics:
So you think that you have found
A better life that you should live
And you're through givin' it all away
I wish there's something I could say
Like the time you looked into the mirror
And saw someone else lookin' back
I wish I could find the words
But there's nothing that even comes close
'cause there ain't nobody ever looked at me
Without lookin' right through me
There ain't nobody ever looked at me
Without lookin' right by me
And you can't go when the knife feels like justice
When the sun dies down, the air grows cold
And the moon plays tricks in the night
Crawlin' low like a snake out of sight
Your guide is the northern light
You wanna laugh say I'm insane
Don't have the sense to come in from the rain
I know how to keep myself between the drops
There ain't nobody ever looked at me
Without lookin' right through me
There ain't nobody ever looked at me
Without lookin' right by me
And you can't go when the knife feels like justice
Slip away
Slip away
Slip away
Slip away
So you think that you have won me over
By settin' me on fire
With the sound of your beating heart
And you're burnin' hot desire
Like the time I looked at your reflections
And saw someone else lookin' back
It's a shame things happen that way
'cause there's no one that even comes close
And there ain't nobody ever looked at me
Without lookin' right through me
There ain't nobody ever looked at me
Without lookin' right by me
And you can't go when the knife feels like justice
I said you can't go on when the blade tears inside you
You can't go on when the knife feels like justice

Great seeing Max Weinberg(Mighty Max) from the E Street Band fame playing the drums on this tune.
Mighty Max on drums and Chuck Leavall on keys.
it Kenny Aronoff, Max is just sitting in for the video
The folly of ‘trying to reach a wider audience’ by adopting middle of the road radio rock. Still, it’s polished.
I remember when I bought this single back when it came out.
Good tune by Brian. I like this and the Phantom, Rocker, and Slick record too...it was a nice break from The Stray Cats.
he's so beautiful and so talented he makes me weep
I like this song and good job
This song was playing in my car when I took video of a double rainbow. It is posted on my channel.
I love this album always have and he is one of the most talented and beautiful humans on earth - right down to that adorable lisp
uh, lisp?
I think Breath of life is the best track from the album with this a close second.
Hard 2 pick anyone track, just the best album of the 80s x

Max and chuck Leavall great song
Kenny Aronoff on the song.
Is that Joan Jett on tambourine and Max Weinberg (Bruce Springsteen, Conan O'Brien show) on drums?!
Yep that's Joan Jett & Max Weinberg
