The galaxy is never given a name, but here's the run-down on the planets, so far: Tattoine is the desert, where Luke lived with his aunt & uncle. Alderaan is Princess Leia's home, that was destroyed by the Death Star. Yavin is the gas giant, around which orbited the forested moon which the rebels used for their secret HQ. Hoth is the ice world with the kangaroos (taun-tauns) and yetis (wampa). Dagobah is the swampy place where Yoda lives. Bespin is the gas giant where Lando Calrissian administrated the floating Cloud City.
Who the F spoiled the movie for Dawn?!!! That's so horrible. Sorry they did that to you dear! Some people are just Jerks! Thanks for your fun reaction again! Can't wait for your next one on episode #6. Keep smiling 🤘 🙂
Yeah. People dealing out spoilers, either because of spite or just by not having common sense, they should get spoilers sent to them for the next 5 movies they watch. ;)
It's pretty much impossible to have been alive in the last few decades and not heard that iconic phrase quoted by someone, somewhere. Usually mis-quoted (which is the version she was remembering during Ep IV).
The Deathstar was only one weapon in the Galactic Empire. The people killed when it exploded was only a minute fraction of the entire military. But I still love that your watching these. This should be required viewing for everyone in the world.
I so enjoyed watching your reaction! This was far and away my favorite episode of them all, before and after. When I first saw Star Wars in theaters I was so confused, thinking the Death Star represented all of the Empire and pictured Vader in his little TIE fighter, eventually running out of gas as he tried to find the nearest planet to land on. Hey, shut up, I was nine years old. :)
Dawn, I'm glad to see you are enjoying the Original Trilogy so far, even with the Spoiler Trolls trying to mess you up. I'm also glad you were not spoiled about the internal body temperature of the Tauntauns. The answer is Luke Warm.
Like everybody else, this was my favourite Star Wars movie. In large part that is due to Gary Kurtz as producer and to the fact that Lucas took a back seat, letting Irvin Kershner direct. Lucas apparently hated the idea of slowing down the action in the second act, but that decision in large part created the emotional core of the series.
@@cuttersboi08 Yep, it's a generalisation. Even a sweeping one. I am aware that my opinion is not shared by absolutely everyone. It is the overwhelming consensus, however.

Dawn. The reason that Leia gets to give orders, call shot, and talks like the smartest person in the room. Is because she honestly probably is. You have to realize that she has been in the fight as a rebel pretty much her whole life under the tutelage of her father who died with alderaan in the last movie. She has more knowledge and experience at combating the empire than any of our other main leads. That and being former royalty from a world like alderaan explains any time she might have acted a little spoiled or anything.
She literally isn’t the most intelligent and she had been raised entirely spoiled and entitled up until that point. Her planet was destroyed therefore all her authority means nothing anymore. Saying she’s the most intelligent is so misandrist and self centered 💀
Great reaction, Dawn. IMO, of all the Star Wars movies, this is the best one. I've never seen anyone react so viscerally to Princess Leia. It's hilarious 😆. I agree, she is a brat, but everyone seems to like her. It's too bad you knew about Luke being Vader's son. When it was revealed in the cinema there was a loud gasp from the audience, then it was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop. Everyone was in shock. So much fun. Here's an interesting bit of trivia, (at least to me.) They wrote the scene with the snow creature damaging Luke's face in the beginning because Mark Hamilton had a nearly fatal motorcycle accident after filming the first movie. Plastic surgeons managed to reassemble his face, but he didn't look exactly like he did before. They added the scene with his injury and subsequent healing to keep the audience from being distracted by the difference.
Daniel, it was a BMW, not a motorcycle and the extent of his accident has been greatly exaggerated over the years. ruclips.net/video/kr7TbrPqYec/видео.html Here is Mr. Hamill giving an interview in 1980 (when The Empire Strikes Back came out) describing the crash in his own words. As you will hear, it was not a Corvette, but a BMW; the accident occurred in January 1977; and he makes no reference to being disfigured. He says he smashed his nose against the steering wheel, and that the incident has been tremendously distorted. I've queued the video to the portion where he begins talking about it.
Out of all the live action movies , revenge of the Sith is easily the best one.. return of the Jedi is number one of the original trilogy.. And I grew up with the original Trilogy... But the best Star Wars content is easily in the 2 animated series Star Wars the clone wars & Star Wars rebels
@@ajclements4627 Now you're bringing up an interesting mystery. I'm an old guy so I recall this ever-changing event. Around the time that A New Hope premiered Hamill made an official statement claiming that he'd been in a horrendous accident, comparing this face to "hamburger" and claiming "Several special effects were used at the hospital to collect it again". Carrie Fischer claimed that the doctors took part of his ear to reconstruct his nose, something Hamill claimed in his first statement about the accident in 1978. Every time he spoke of it after that he walked back details a little bit until in the end he was claiming it was only a broken nose and bruised cheek. Carrie Fischer claimed it was more and fans said he definitely looked too different to only be a broken nose. Who knows where the truth lies.
@@Pinkielover Thanks for the reply. It's always fun to get other's opinions on these things. I graduated from high school the same year that A New Hope came out and the original trilogy is in my wheelhouse. (Probably just Boomer stubbornness.) I didn't care much for the prequels until the sequels arrived. Now I've sort of changed my mind about 1,2 and 3. I've tried the animated stuff, but I just can't get into it. I know a lot of people are big fans.
Kind of weird seeing someone having such resentment towards Princess Leia. Not only was she a Princess but also an officer of the rebel alliance. And now a "former" spy who could also handle a blaster. Btw, did you speed up the film in the background for copyright reasons? It's not exactly great but I probably know the scenes off by heart now anyway. Not a big issue. Saw this in a British Army cinema in Germany when it came out in BFG. For Return of the Jedi we had to wait another few (3 or 4) years and then even longer until it was released on VHS Rental! Painful 😉
Just sit back, relax, enjoy. Curse the spoilers...but...even if you know anything ahead of time it's still an outstanding trilogy worthy of watching again every now and then. Yep - we were a bit upset at the way this ended way back when. 'You can't stop it there!!'
It was an unexpected cliffhanger. But that meant there was more to come, so it wasn't so bad. It's just that the moment hit like ice water in the face, right after such defeats. Masterful filmmaking!
And it didn't come out on home video until 1982, so you couldn't even rent it out to watch again. Seeing it in the theatric release was your only chance, so you went often while you could.
I swear - the lightsaber battle at the end of this, and return of the Jedi, never fail to get me 100% sucked in. I really wish they hadn’t left behind the notion of Jedi’s having to be zen and bereft of hate/using anger.
I've really come to look forward to your reactions. You have a combination of genuine interest, sarcasm, and sass that makes each video a great experience!
The only way you guessed in "A New Hope" that Darth Vader is Luke's father is due to the line "I am your father" has been in the public consciousness and pop culture for 5 decades now. Because, even the Star Wars creator, the writers, the director etc (basically all of them being GEORGE LUCAS...lol) hadn't come up with that twist when they made the original Star Wars 'A New Hope' in 1977. The original movie was not supported by the studio, and as such had almost no real budget to work with. It was supposed to be a stand-alone one-and-done forgotten movie, which the studio never believed would even come close to recouping the cost of the project. But after the huge critical and box office success of the movie, the second movie (Empire Strikes Back) was given a huge budget, and it was only during the scriptwriting creative process did George Lucas and his people eventually decide on making the storyline twist that Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker, and is Luke's father. Bear in mind, there were many other potential plot twists and Vader's back story that they considered instead...but they settled on the Father/Son option after the fact. So, the only way a movie watcher today could guess the Father/Son twist from simply watching 'A New Hope', can only be by being exposed to all the spoilers about this movie throughout pop culture references for decades now, even if it were the first time ever watching that first movie.
Imagine having to wait three years to find out what happened. We do know that Vader is not above lying to get what he wants. He was lying to Lando the whole movie!
8:08 Let me just point something out about this battle. The rebel _fighters_ are not fighting the Imperial advance under the impression that they can actually _stop_ it. They understand. There _is_ no stopping an Imperial advance. If you have a base in a given location and the Empire becomes aware of it and decides they want it, the very best you can possibly hope for is to hold off their troops long enough to evacuate all your most valuable assets therefrom. That's what they're fighting for.
I watched this in a big cinema, the Dominion in London. No one knew the twist, a benefit of being pre-internet. When he said I am your father, 1000 people gasped at the same time!
Originally, Anakin Skywalker's ghost was going to appear in this movie. The problem was that he had already established a character who was a father figure to Luke that Darth Vader had killed - Obi Wan Kenobi. So, he came up with the idea that Darth Vader was Anakin, and these movies became a lot more interesting.
Well I'll give you one thing Dawn, you are one of the few people I've seen on these videos who is smart enough to figure out that Luke uses the Force to guide himself as he's falling away from Vader and guide himself into the one of the "chutes". Most people I've seen are so blank minded as to think he just gets lucky. In case you didn't know by the way, Luke uses the Force to slow himself down once he's sliding, he just didn't expect the "tunnel" or "chute" to open once he had stopped himself and drop him. Empire is the best S Wars film for most fans, and I agree. Most of the cast have stated they think this one is the best as well. The only thing I would say is that, although I understand why you have seemingly watched them or are watching them in order, it is really better to watch them as they were released in theaters. Reason is, if you watch them 1-9 you lose the arguably greatest movie reveal of all time in Empire and the Luke/Vader father son angle. I consider my privileged to have seen these films starting in 1977 with A New Hope as a child through part 9 as a grown man, and I can tell you that in 1980 when I saw Empire in the theater and the reveal scene happened with Vader telling Luke he's his father it was truly incredible. The WHOLE theater lost their mind. I''ll never forget it as long as I live. So if you watch them in order 1-9 that is lost, as well as Yoda's reveal to Luke. As stated, I understand why first timers would watch them in order, but I was asked once by someone who wanted to show their daughter the S Wars films how to do it and I recommended to them to show them as they were released, so as to get the full effect of the Vader and Yoda reveals in Empire. Just my 2 cents.
You were so excited to see this at the start. I was 12 years old and stood outside in a line to buy tickets all day to see this. Twice. I've only been that excited to see a movie one other time in my life, 23 years later.
7:15 Fan theory is that Admiral Oswal (the guy who got choked out) was really a rebel agent/sympathizer who purposefully tried to dissuade Vader from searching the Hoth system, and then purposefully took his ship so close to the planet so the Rebels could spot him and prepare for the Imperial invasion.
If you want to have The Imperial March (aka Darth Vader’s Theme) as your song for going down the aisle at your wedding then you’ll want Meco’s version of it as your wedding dance at the reception. It’s a dance version of that music along with sound effects and a few other classic Star Wars musical elements thrown in. I love it. Here’s a link: ruclips.net/video/b78HpmEdvGw/видео.html
you are indeed quite clever... so why if this from a long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, does Chewbacca speak with such a strong Scottish brogue?
I agree. One of the fun things about seeing someone experience this series for the first time is when the brother/sister secret is revealed. The first response is always "Eww! They were kissing and stuff!"
That blue liquid, that Luke is in is called Bacta. Its a healing liquid. Characters who are injured usually spend time in Bacta Tanks after being injured.
7:27 "Just 'cuz you're a princess doesn't mean you get to be the _boss."_ They're not following her directions because she's a _princess._ They're following her directions because she _knows what she's doing._
I think you should rock some Leia "buns" for the third movie. Also, if you can source one, a "slave girl" bikini would also be a suitable tribute to the greatest trilogy ever created. #NotAPerv #Honest #NoReally
Remember, us old folks have know about Luke and Leya for years now. Their escapades have been talked about, Joked about, and sung about for years now. Barry Manalo has a star wars song out; fish for it.

So because Leia gives as good as she gets from Han Solo, that makes her not nice? Han gets a pass for his behaviour but she gets labelled as a brat? Very odd double standard and a surprising one at that.
That was a LOT of fun watching you. "Harpoon them up their butts" 🤣After 45 years I have seen this over 100 times. I'm sure the first 50 were in the three years before ROTJ when my family had one of the only pirated Betamax copies.
All right, first off, about Luke's face, Mark Hamill was in a car accident while Episode IV was still in production (January 11th, 1977, to be exact) which fractured his nose and left cheekbone, and had to have plastic surgery in order for his face to be reconstructed. As such, a double had to be used for the landspeeder pickup shots. You can still see some traces of the scars in the opening of this film, though. Now, regarding the "I love you" moment, Harrison Ford ad-libbed the response. The script had Han saying, "I love you, too.", but Ford thought "I know" was something Han would more likely say, so they kept it in. I agree with Ford, honestly. All right, time to talk about changes. Surprisingly, this film had the least amount of changes. Most of the changes involved dialog and visuals (a TIE Fighter's laser bolt being a more vibrant green, a digital hatch on top of the Millenium Falcon when Lando, Leia, and Chewie go to rescue Luke, Cloud City not being so claustrophobic compared to the original release, etc.). The only major changes in this film are the Wampa, the Emperor, and Boba Fett. For the Wampa, they had a costumed actor for when two Wampas attack Echo Base (in a deleted scene), but the costume was an embarrassment, so they just decided not to show the monster during the scene where Luke's in the cave. When they were working on the Special Edition, they still used a costumed actor, but the new costume was way better than the old one, so they filmed new shots showing the monster a bit more, like it thriving in pain when Luke cuts its arm off. For Boba Fett, his original voice actor was a guy named Jason Wingreen (don't ask me what he was from, 'cause I don't know). They didn't change the voice until after Episode II came out, so the new actor redubbed Boba's dialog in this film. In the suit, though, he was performed by the late Jeremy Bulloch. As for the Emperor, he looked different in the original release. The look you saw was based on the Prequels. Even the voice was different back then. Here, he's voiced by Ian McDiarmid (who first joined the franchise in Episode VI). And that's it. And I forgot to mention this, but in the latest version of Episode IV, Greedo blurts out one last word before he and Han shoot. Also, speaking of the Wampa, until now, you could see a puppeteer's arm for a split second when it attacks the Tauntaun in the opening scene. It's a blink and you'll miss it moment, really, and anyway, they covered it up in the Blu-ray release. And that's it for this film, aside from one more thing: The famous quote from Vader. It's actually one example of something known as the Mandela Effect (named after African President, Nelson Mandela, who people thought had died in prison in the '80s, but really didn't). It's when you remember something, only to find out that you remembered it wrong. A big example of it would be the spelling of Berenstain. People remembered it being spelled with an "e" not an "a", but it's actually spelled with an "a". Another example would be the mascot from Monopoly, Rich Uncle Pennybags. People thought he had a monocle, but nope. Curious George (the monkey from the various books) was always getting himself in trouble and swinging around by his tail... But he actually doesn't have a tail. People always imitating Dracula always say, "I vant to suck your blood. Bleh, bleh, bleh." But Lugosi (the actor famous for displaying the iconic image and tone of the character) never said that. The "bleh, bleh" thing originated from a song called "My Son, the Vampire", and for the former bit, people most likely wanted to come up with something for Drac to say, so they went with "I vant to suck your blood". Anyway, you get the idea, so back to the misquote. People say the line as, "Luke, I am your father.", but the line is actually, "No. I am your father." Who else would Vader be talking to in that scene, right? But the important part of the line is "I am your father", but there are people who SWEAR they heard him say it the way they remember it. Sorry for the lengthy comment there, but I just had a lot to say. And yeah, as someone else pointed out, aside from George Lucas and Mark Hamill, nobody knew the twist back then until they saw the movie when it first came out.
I was so obsessed with Star Wars as a kid that my English teacher took me aside after class one day and said: "You're good at writing, but please. Please write about anything other than Star Wars." Leia talks like a grizzled badass general who doesn't take any shit or suffer fools because she's a grizzled badass general who doesn't take any shit or suffer fools. She's been a key figure in a terroristic insurgent rebellion as long as she's been alive, and by the time these movies pick up, she's essentially a three-star general
I saw episode IV when it came out in '78 in the cinema, the opening scene with the Star Destroyer flying on overhead chasing Leia's transport was brilliant. What a way to start.

There's no love triangle. She kissed luke just to spite Han's "you're so in love with me" attitude.
“They can’t just end it there”!
Pretty much sums up if a movie was good or not.
Great reaction!!
The galaxy is never given a name, but here's the run-down on the planets, so far:
Tattoine is the desert, where Luke lived with his aunt & uncle.
Dagobah's the system, not the planet, though, right?
@@mikek0135 It's the place.
Fuck knows what's canon nowadays, but in the old expanded universe at least, Dagobah was the name of both the system and the planet.
Who the F spoiled the movie for Dawn?!!! That's so horrible. Sorry they did that to you dear! Some people are just Jerks!
Thanks for your fun reaction again! Can't wait for your next one on episode #6. Keep smiling 🤘 🙂
Yeah. People dealing out spoilers, either because of spite or just by not having common sense, they should get spoilers sent to them for the next 5 movies they watch. ;)

Pop culture did it! It's one of the most iconic moments in film history.
It's pretty much impossible to have been alive in the last few decades and not heard that iconic phrase quoted by someone, somewhere. Usually mis-quoted (which is the version she was remembering during Ep IV).
I could listen to Dawn read a phone book for hours. 😁
I couldn’t 😂
The Deathstar was only one weapon in the Galactic Empire. The people killed when it exploded was only a minute fraction of the entire military. But I still love that your watching these. This should be required viewing for everyone in the world.
Yeah, it's analogous to losing an entire aircraft carrier crew. Not insignificant, but not catastrophic either.
The infrastructure costs, though...
It's a giant space ball!
😄 being a Princess is exactly what makes her the boss.
And being a Rebel leader.

😖
Oooh, that was a witty one. Sheer drollery. 😁
That joke smelled worse…on the punchline.
Lando: "Hello, what have we here?"
Dawn: "That's Leia. She's not nice."
😂
It's amazing how Star Wars still means a lot to new viewers decades later.
“Everybody.” What a wonderful assumption.

And, she is one of the leaders of the rebellion.
It's a movie mate, calm down
She literally isn’t the most intelligent and she had been raised entirely spoiled and entitled up until that point. Her planet was destroyed therefore all her authority means nothing anymore. Saying she’s the most intelligent is so misandrist and self centered 💀

"Harpoon up its butt and then pull it down" LMAO Dawn
Daniel, it was a BMW, not a motorcycle and the extent of his accident has been greatly exaggerated over the years.
ruclips.net/video/kr7TbrPqYec/видео.html
Here is Mr.
@@ajclements4627 That makes no sense, that's like saying "it was a Volvo, not a car". BMW doesn't just make cars, they make motorcycles also.
Painful 😉
The sass towards Leia is hilarious
7:28 I think you misunderstand something here - Leia IS one of the leaders of the entire rebellion which means she IS the boss.
Just sit back, relax, enjoy. Curse the spoilers...but...even if you know anything ahead of time it's still an outstanding trilogy worthy of watching again every now and then.
Yep - we were a bit upset at the way this ended way back when. 'You can't stop it there!!'
Nobody was upset at the way it ended when this first came out.

I actually like your reaction and opinions of "Leia". It's unique, refreshing and welcome change of audience pace.

There's only one Dawn Marie, a true treasure!
Aww you guys 🥰
The sass you give Princess Leia makes this reaction so worth watching.
My friend Shelli walked down the aisle at her wedding to the Imperial March. It was a powerful moment.
Really? So Darth Vader wasn’t originally Luke’s father? Interesting. I just assumed that because of the name that was in the plot from the beginning
@@seanmcmurphy4744 If you look back at the original Star Wars, he doesn't even have that large a role. He's basically Tarkin's heavy.
@@johnsensebe3153 😳
Would you give us some details of some losing their minds? Some outrageous ones. This would be interesting. Thanks.
I love it.

Can't believe someone spoiled the leia twist. Ffs.
I agree. One of the fun things about seeing someone experience this series for the first time is when the brother/sister secret is revealed. The first response is always "Eww! They were kissing and stuff!"
"There must be merch, right?" OMG you have NO idea lol. Also, it was always Han and Leigh. The Luke+Leigh thing was a red herring.
Including the lunchbox and flamethrower.
That blue liquid, that Luke is in is called Bacta. Its a healing liquid. Characters who are injured usually spend time in Bacta Tanks after being injured.
7:27 "Just 'cuz you're a princess doesn't mean you get to be the _boss."_
They're not following her directions because she's a _princess._ They're following her directions because she _knows what she's doing._
I think you should rock some Leia "buns" for the third movie.
Also, if you can source one, a "slave girl" bikini would also be a suitable tribute to the greatest trilogy ever created.

So because Leia gives as good as she gets from Han Solo, that makes her not nice? Han gets a pass for his behaviour but she gets labelled as a brat? Very odd double standard and a surprising one at that.
"That's Leia. She's not nice." 😂

Out of all the great reaction lines, the one that really cracked me up was "Do I get to choose how many boyfriends I have in space?"
I was so obsessed with Star Wars as a kid that my English teacher took me aside after class one day and said:

She's been a key figure in a terroristic insurgent rebellion as long as she's been alive, and by the time these movies pick up, she's essentially a three-star general
I saw episode IV when it came out in '78 in the cinema, the opening scene with the Star Destroyer flying on overhead chasing Leia's transport was brilliant. What a way to start.
The comedian Eddie Izzard did an amazing "Death Star Cantina" routine. I highly recommend it. Eddie Izzard is excellent anyway, but that is one of his best. They even did a Lego version of it!
