Some thoughts from a consumer who has been using CCTV cameras for years for home surveillance. When choosing a camera, focus on night vision first and foremost. Good night vision is key, as night time is when all the crime happens (I've provided footage to police on multiple occasions, and it's always night time recordings). There are a few cameras that now offer pretty good color night vision, but find reviews, as some are great, and some others that advertise color night vision are still pretty crappy. If using IR with B/W night vision and if you don't have fancy human/vehicle recognition, it helps to mount a separate IR illuminator and turn the cameras built-in IR off. This reduces fogginess in the picture and, more importantly, greatly reduces false positives from bugs flying around the IR light (as now your IR light is not in the same place as the camera). If you want to capture license plates...well...it's hard to do; you need specialized cameras (in particular you need control over shutter speed so you can set a high enough shutter speed at night to eliminate blur); you may also need additional IR illumination to get good captures, and it's really hard to find IR spot lights (I had to get some from a company that sells them for mounting on trucks for night hunting and them adapt them to use wall power); and you ideally want 2 cameras for each street/road you want to monitor, one facing each way, as often a vehicle only has a plate on one side.
I can simply say, this is the best video I have ever seen, as far as CCTV awareness is concerned. For all 12 years I have been working in Security systems industry. To the extend I find myself can't wait to subscribe the channel. Thank you so much sir.
You to use Vandal camera at low height but in the example show of a bungalow, which is also my situation, you had a turret camera under the soffit. Can you explain your thinking or it just that residential isn't high risk?
Thank you very much for this great and comprehensive teaching. I haven't mounted any camera before but, I have strong passion and burning desire to be an installer. Please I want to ask, is it advisable to use an iron box (knockout box) and PVC pipe at the position of the camera and run the pipe inside a wall straight to where NVR and router would be located? What are the advantages and disadvantages ? Thank you!
in regards to the vandal dome cameras, i think, a concern here is the distance where the camera will be placed. people for the most part are not out there to break your camera, but if the bad guys are planning to robbed a place with these types of cameras at low point position, they might just spray paint or put tape over the camera instead of breaking it.
I have a camera 8ft up on a metal pole at the bottom of my driveway and anti-vandal greasy paint on the pole it is mounted inside a small wooden backplate with a roof made of plywood and painted black, to protect it from the rain and it is absolutely fine where it is. it is also visable with my rear garden camera, try to overlap your cameras view with each camera location if you can and one will protect the other.
Hi Gareth, bullet cameras have their advantages and sometimes have a higher IP rating (IP68) instead of IP67 or IP66. The IP rating is a useful tool to check for a water proof rating. Good luck,
I’m still confused I am looking for a security camera that only uses WiFi, no nvr or dvr . Onboard micro sd. What is the specific name these are called ?
These are generally known as IP Network standalone cameras. We will be doing a video on these soon as they are very useful and allow for more flexibility. (E.g. if the Wifi Fails, it can still record on an onboard SD card)
Wonderful information. Could you explain also on the differences in clarity of the cameras, for example difference between 720p and 1080p , colored.......
Hi Out of all 3 cameras which is the best one to catch a criminal vandalizing my car each night. I have tried so many including all the dual dash cams trail cams house cameras but to no avail. Now i want to try the Dome ....is it good for this situation? Can i also use a power bank all night long to video .. Which of these 3 will do the work? Thanks
Hi Vicky, it;s not so much the camera, it's where it is positioned. If you know the area they are coming to, find a camera with the right lens to zoom in and leave it there. Also, consider having both- a Dash camera and a camera from your house looking at the car. That way you've got double evidence and difference angles covered. Good luck.
2 Timothy 2:24-25... Can you recommend a camera that lets you control shutter speed?

Good point, but the camera would have picked them up at the low height spraying so you've got the evidence :)

can i use a different brand of hd cam on a dvr? for example im using hikvision turbo HD cam and my dvr is dahua?
We just got the starlight camera, is it classed as a bullet?
I have a turet dome system but two of the careras are full of water and no longer work, do they come appart or do I buy new
When you are buying cameras, buy a reputable brand and check for IP certification. IP66 or IP67 will prevent water from entering.
I'm looking for a wireless that doesn't need Wi-Fi or network and records on local storage solar powered is this impossible to find?
Thanks... I'm an installer....and we use the bullet camera outside more because it has better water proof over the dome CCTV camera

Thank you .Planning on some more videos soon.
you are good bro
Please, does increase in IP rating (e.g IP68) determine the protective nature of the camera from water? Thank you sir
Thank you Sir,
Good video & Good Explanation
on cctv cameras, thank you.
Thank you for a very informative video. 5 Stars.
How do u Atch the camera to the Internet
can the dome cameras be mounted to a vertical wall? or only to a ceiling?
Hi there, yes they can, But when you are buying a dome, look out for a 3 axis dome as this wouldn't need a bracket. a 2 axis will need a bracket.
HI. Can i use one fiber cable in a scenario where Point A has 8 ip camera ( connected with 8port Poe switch) and Point B has the NVR?
Hi David, yes you can, but you can also do this with a single CAT6 cable. Fiber optic is good for very long distance.
Great info 👌🏽
Very long video but very justified! Thorough yet comprehensible. 👍
Very well explained, it really helped. Thanks bro.
Thank you.
Very informative
Thx for very informative video👍
My pleasure
Very, VERY helpful. Thank you. 🙂
I remember the analog bullet cameras were shaped that way was to fit a CRT inside, before digital lenses were invented.

Bad guys can wear a mask while they disable (spray paint, smash, etc) the camera, then go about their thievery.
