I am so in love with these little guys. I know they're incredibly destructive to the wood, but we've loads of them out there and they're so sweet and docile, you can just walk right up and they look right into your face and hover around you as if they're curious about you. They're really fascinating creatures. I think the males are incapable of stinging, and the females almost never do unless they're trapped against your skin. I've never been stung and I interact with them daily all summer. The burrow holes they make are absolutely perfect circles every single time... it's really incredible. All my circles look like asterisks by comparison!
I’m fairly fascinated by these little dudes. My favorite pastime includes sitting outside and watching these things to to work. They’re very harmless as long as you don’t directly try to interfere with them.
The ones at my parents house come back every year and they check each one of us out at the beginning of the season when we come out and realize we're not a threat. After that they just hover around like nothing's there.
This is the reason I have a fear of bees wasps and hornets not just because they can sting but It's The way they fly and hover FREAKS ME OUT except in videos
What a troll design nature came up with for Carpenter Bees. Mostly harmless, but their large size, loud buzzing, and tendency to fly in front of your face makes for a very intimidating creature.
I found out that males have the most interaction with humans since they protect the nest. They don't sting, but they will try to dive bomb at humans. Females rarely come out of their nests since they have to lay eggs and build the colony. They are also good natured only stinging if they feel threatened.
I was pruning a tree and one of these flew out and hovered and it reminded me of a humming bird it was incredible, and a little freaked out I was thinking it was a black honey 🐝
We had an infestation of these about 15 years ago. I haven't seen one since, but I'm still terrified of them. I'm not usually afraid of any insect. But just seeing a picture of a carpenter bee makes me panicky. Scary, scary bees.
MrPainkiller4rent Yup, males have no stinger. Females only sting if you handle them too much, otherwise, they just ignore you. Males are incredibly curious, even about us, they'll hover near you too.
@@laurapriest8257 I try not to mess with any bees, wasps or hornets in general. I know they mean no harm, their buzzing just gets to me for some reason. Lol
@@laurapriest8257 I remember I was always told “watch out, they’re gonna sting you.” I guess that stuck with me all my life. I suppose you’re right about the fears being taught. My fears of bees, wasps and hornets are getting less as time goes on. I’ll keep your words in mind. Thank you for this 😊

Yep they are xylocopa. Different flight patterns and habits than Bombus species. My experience with bubbles is that they will leave you shine for the most part unless you are near their nest. The carpenter bees love to fly up in your face and intimidate you but usually it's the males that do that
we had a huge infestation in our deck roof. we wanted them to leave without harming them. so we found a product on amazon...citri fresh bee stop. worked like a charm and it's natural and safe around people and pets. 2 sprayings and no more bees.
what did you bring these in the house I mean do this thing you cause you know cuz these when they sting you did you'd be painful for you and they sting you
Yea I did that and two landed in my hair and stayed there....I was frozen stiff for 5mins straight I thought I was going to die a horrible death.... :(
I live in a log home and these things wreak havoc on it every year. I sometimes sit outside with a modified tennis racket and swat these things out of the air.
ounce the queen craws up the handle 's of a push mower ,& stings you'll be running the others will follow , smashed them out of fear while heart rate exploded ,they might not be able to sting in flight ?
The female carpenter bees sting and it is extremely painful! (I would need to get stung 20 times by a honey bee to get the same allergic reaction!) Too bad I can't attach a photo of my leg, my entire upper leg was swollen for several weeks. It was very scary...Got a horrible allergic reaction. This thing attacked me! I am now horrified of them.
They destroyed my shed. Over a hundred holes and were living under the threshold until one day I opened the door and stepped on the floor and my foot dank down 6 inches. The war is on.
Just destroyed a nest of c. bees I found under some old wood shelving in the garage. I had NO clue they were there till I moved the shelving and one crawled out. Moved it some more and two crawled out, then four. I kicked it over and there was the nest!
there’s this one female carpenter bee that WONT LEAVE ME ALONE ISTG literally every time i go outside it follows me✋😔 i’m not scared of them anymore thanks to it following me around for like 2 weeks lmao
Ok I have a hardware store near our town that is completely full of dried unpainted wood. And there is at least 50 of these creatures flying around there. Especially on a hot day they are EVERYWHERE. That's why I hate going to that place. :/

Fun fact: Male Carpenter bees don't have stingers. They use intimidation by flying directly at a Target to scare it off.
Male carpenter bees are fat and cute!

Carpenter bees make those buzzing sounds so loud just like a shaver

One almost got me. I was trying to move around but it was following me then it started come towards me 😓

I will never understand how people can get so close to these needles with wings. I'd honestly rather take on a cobra rather than 5 bees.
Ive been stung twice by honey bee theyre aggressive
