I am glad you sing along with the playing, it makes it easy to follow. You discuss the key, etc. Very professional.

Mr. Mighty Slim. Thank you. I couldn't ask for anymore for all the chord changes and the timing of the lyrics. Definitely worth a subscription. Keep them coming please. There aren't hardly any Leslie West and Mountain guitar lessons out there and after his death everyone wants to play his songs. Peace.

MrMightyslim: I'm here just to see how you're doing. I was singing and playing this song when it first came out.
I had a 1964 Fender Stratocaster and a Marshall amp with effects five months before Jimi Hendrix went away,
seeing him in Maple Leaf Gardens, so I was doing more of a Jimi version than Leslie West, covering keyboards.
Don't hesitate to use an A major barre chord at the fifth fret and move down one fret for a D sharp minor.
This song uses almost all the same chords as "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", and those major open A
formation barre chords with the accented and changing bass notes are very Eric Clapton, a friend of the
original songwriter. I you're playing those open A formation barre chords all the time just by reaching over
three strings with one finger you're limiting yourself for future development. You sound like you have a nice,
strong voice, not raspy from smoking or using a pipe, so don't be afraid to sing louder because you have
to start now to be better in the future. I had a sunburst but I always wanted a red one with a tortoise shell
pick-guard and black pickups. There isn't a lot of choice when you're a lefty like me.... and Jimi Hendrix.

Didn't know Jimi did a version. Thanks for the suggestion but I like the way I do it.

@@MrMightyslim: Thanks for the reply. Jimi didn't do a version but I did a Jimi version. You've got your own style and that's where it's at. Using chords like Little Wing or Castles Made of Sand when I play Somewhere Over the Rainbow transforms the song, having chords co-ordinate with the singing, for another example.
As someone who plays right-handed, left-handed and left-handed with the strings reversed, here's a chord and chord type I can win bets with in music stores, if I'm not happy with attitudes, saying I know an A minor you don't know. Bass E string fifth fret, A string third fret and D string second fret, with G, B and E open. You can move those three strings up five frets and change positions to get major with it in between, with open strings ringing out with effects. That's a version of an open chord G barre chord, where you're not trying to hold the G on the high E string, having your barre chord finger hold all the strings down while you push the bottom two strings down. Wow! I'm not sure if you've got me feeling fatherly or grandfatherly. Do you have your spring tension set up as light as possible, so you can bend bass strings without de-tuning high strings, a factory setting? That really gives you a softer tone, and tune it with an oscilloscope for scientific tuning. A Strat is the first stringed instrument in history to have individual two-way adjustable bridges, why Jimi played one. He was an air force radar operator, right into that. I don't know how communicative you want to be with me, but we can't do photos or scans here. I'm in the Niagara Peninsula, and I don't cross that border, so you don't have to worry about me showing up with my guitar at one of your gigs. When Fender owned Strats had to be set up for customers at the franchise. You probably never saw the instructions for that. I'm not riffing off your playing here, just getting more out of your guitar, especially if it's offshore. john@johnwatt.ca

    My old friend.
    It's a Jack Bruce song.
    I know you know that.
You're demonstrating the Leslie West interpretation of course.
Am I ever gonna see you again?
    Your pal forever.

Leslie played this tune on a number of different guitars, as evidenced in myriad videos. Guitar doesn't matter anyway; it's all about the tone.
