I followed this exactly, but it wouldn't take much coolant when I tried to refill it - only about 3L (and a LOT more than than came out of it). I did the thing with the heater and ran it for a while, squeezed all the hoses and only got a tiny bit more in. The heat never comes on, so coolant is not circulating. I've tried a ton of things, even jacked up the front end. Any ideas on what I can do to get the coolant circulating?
Top tip for those alu bolts. My water pump is on order and I think I would have missed that bolt-breaking warning and turned a half hour job into a 3 day ordeal. Phew
There is no regular interval. Replace it when it leaks. Or if the car has high mileage and you have to remove it to do other work. When the bearing seal starts leaking, you can see coolant under the pump, either with a mirror, or remove the dust shield underneath and look with a flashlight.
Gday Brian, Thanks for taking the time to make and post this video. Very much appreciated along with the technical info as to why you should replace the bolts. I’m off to my local fastener dealer to do exactly that now. I really appreciate it, Cheers from Oz 🍻
Do the replacement bolts come with the new water pump? I went on VWs website and it says the bolts are discontinued. I did find them online but I am wondering why VW discontinued the bolts.
on touareg 2011 3.0 tdi i drain coolant and change water pump and now is cooling on issue radariators hose is hot or in coolant tank cold and heater not working
I have a 2012 Q7 TDI 3.0 and my engine looks slightly different that that. My Thermostat housing is located just above and to the left of the water pump pulley. I don't even see it on the engine in this video. What am I missing?
Great video and appreciate your tips and tricks. Especially the steel to aluminum bolt variation and the air usage. What are your thoughts on timing chain replacement or maintenance on these 3.0l? I have 2014 with a stage 2 Malone tune. Def deleted and running straight through. Absolutely amazing engine, performance and mileage. I'd like to start thinking about checking the chain tolerances. Perhaps new tensioners? Or is it a complete replacement? I'm at 130k. But 90k of those have been with the tune, so it runs a touch heavier wear than stock, I'm guessing.
@@HowtoAutomotive Thanks for educating me on this. I stopped working on any European cars years ago. Though if i come across this I will know that they are one time use bolts. I am suprised though that the pump kit didn't come with new bolts, since it is mandatory to replace them.
How to Automotive Hi. i got the water pump. you mentioned the torque spec for the bolt. my bolts didn’t come with an documentation. They are the aluminium ones. will these be 3nm as well. do you have any links to show what the settings should be ?
Brian beautiful video. I have a 14 Touareg with same TDI engine. How long does the OEM pump last? How much for the water pump? Can you provide the bolt thread and pitch? I’ll order a set from bolt depot in advance.
Hi. when i did this. i notice some oil leaking from one of bolt holes. Was fine for three months but now i can see oil leaking from around the water pump. Help !! please.
Front crankshaft oil seal. Mine started leaking only 3 months after dealership replaced my water pump. It was a cheap part and only took the 3 hours to replace.
@@homopolemicus3449 I don't have video. I don't know if it was just coincidence or the service department damaged the seal when replacing my water pump, but I wasn't there. I don't know if there is any oil from the pump seems unlikely.
If you have all the bits and parts needed, the job dose not look that hard to diy !!! Dealer would most likely charge $500-800. I didn't notice a thermostat, is it located elsewhere in engine bay ? Is it also a simple job to replace ?
happysawfish thank you! I’m sure there’s amazing technicians in your area. Ask your friends and family usually word-of-mouth is the best way to find a shop.
За стаканом масляного фільтра є болтик під торс це для того його потрібно відкрутити щоб вийшов повітря з системи а коли потече то закрутив і все ОК.. так що тут ти трішки не прав
Links for parts and tools are in the description
What is the length of the bolts please?
Same question please.
Can you also plan to do one on the Q7 4m? Thx
How long did the whole change over take?
Great video. I really like how you cover all the smallest details, like clearing the WP bolt holes.
Best video out there on how to do this Q7 water pump. New subscriber. Thank you.
Dude you save my life. This is the same pump situation for the gas engine.
Thank you very much.
Very helpful video. Great tip on the aluminum screws. I had steel ones but never would've thought to check that. Thanks Brian!
Probably the best explained video I've seen, (show belt application and parts). Nice job!
Awesome demonstration showing how to replace the water pump! I have a 2013 Q7 TDI and this video was very informative. Thank you!

Did you “burp” the coolant simply by running the engine up to normal operating temperature and filling the coolant reservoir once the level dropped?
What is the hole next to the pump that you removed and at the end it was back again
Great video and excellent detail that includes all of the information needed to complete this job.
Glad you liked the video. Thank you for watching!
Hi, any videos on how to replace the thermostat for the same Audi Q7 2013?
Thanks for the video ! What is the replacement interval for the water pump on the 3.0 TDI?

Will this same procedure work on a 2014 Q5 TDI or does front need yo ne removed to get access clearence ??
Great job as always!! Nothing better than having pride in the work you do. 👍👍

Thanks, just replaced my water pump and this video was so helpful. Top man!

Hi what’s the symptoms of bad water pump ?
Hardly no good mechanics in Australia like you
Is it the same process for the gas engine ?
Excellent video! Very detailed and descriptive!!! 👍🏾👍🏾
I have a 2012 TDI and it looks nothing like this. Could this be for 2013 and up TDI?
Great video, well done and easy to follow along!!!!!
Is it a t60 torx bit for the belt tensioner?
Hi how long were the bolts please
nais easy job, thanks Brian!
Thank you for watching!
Big help. Thanks man!
Wow. Never thought that could be so easy (to you 😅)!
Saved me a lot of money and headaches! Thank you
Always glad to hear the videos help save money. Thank you for watching!
Hi! Why does it come oil from 1 of the bolt holes?
Mine did this too and I wondered about it
Where do you get tools for to work euro car??
on touareg 2011 3.0 tdi i drain coolant and change water pump and now is cooling on issue radariators hose is hot or in coolant tank cold and heater not working
I have the same problem - did you ever solve it?

Nice video brother!
Good video. BTW are Audi the only company that use aluminum one time use bolts?
Longtrailside Thank you for watching. Volkswagen Mercedes BMW and probably a few other European cars all use aluminum bolts on all sorts of parts.
@@HowtoAutomotive Thanks for educating me on this. I stopped working on any European cars years ago. Though if i come across this I will know that they are one time use bolts. I am suprised though that the pump kit didn't come with new bolts, since it is mandatory to replace them.
Longtrailside This Pump comes with either or steel or aluminum bolts so I guess that’s why they don’t include them in the kit.
For a 2012 Q7 do you need to bleeding air out of the coolant system? if so where is the bleed point?
I believe you just run the engine with the cap to the reservoir off - maybe 20mins or so. Also run the heater on hi temp while doing it
There is a bleed screw behind the oil filter located on the top of the aluminium casing
how to bleed all system?
You’re freaking awesome dude, THANK YOU!!
Thank-you, very clear instructions.
Is HEPU the best brand or should i go for audi oem
HEPU makes good parts. You will be good with them.
How to Automotive Do hepu supply the aluminium bolts?
Homo Polemicus that I don’t know. I do know CRP Automotive do and they make Great parts as well.

Homo Polemicus Are you going to tighten those down to 3 N meters plus a 90° turn.
Thanks for the heads up on those aluminum bolts
What was the Q7 mileage for the belt change??
It don't have a cam belt it chain driven, this is the auxiliary belt
Real good info.
Thank you!
Great job brother.

This car had about 100,000 on it and the part was about 100 bucks.
Oil_Burner you’re TDI has a 100,000 mile warranty, take it to the dealer.
Good guide. Thanks
