    Wendy’s voice actress was 13 when she recorded her lines as Alice in Alice Wonderland, and about 16 when she did Peter Pan.
    Then, she reprised her role as Alice and Wendy at the age of 65 in Kingdom Hearts.

    The "medicine" that Nana the Dog prepares to the kids is actually concoction of morphine and alcohol which was commonly used at the turn of the century (very early 20:th century) to make kids fall asleep easier and faster. In the swedish dub, they're rather reffered as vitamins, similiar to cod liver oil (which was something that kids had to take during early 20:th century to grow big and strong when vegetables weren't that common unlike today) or castor oil.

  • @vixiestarfire
    @vixiestarfire 2 года назад +58

    Fun fact about the play this is based on. When Tinkerbell’s light is going out they would have kids clap their hands if they believed in fairies to revive her. The first time Peter Pan was played in front of an adult audience, the performers did not expect all the grown ups to participate in the bit. They did though, and this created such an emotional reaction from the performers that they had to take a small intermission to get themselves together before they continued the play 🥰
    Bonus facts: it was tradition for Peter to be played by a woman, also in the production of the Disney animated movie here they almost had Nana come with them to Neverland

    • @DelGuy03
      @DelGuy03 Год назад +7

      Thanks for providing all that great information. J.M. Barrie wrote the play in 1904 (and novelized it a little later), and it was produced almost every year in London as a holiday-time play for families, always with a woman playing Peter. There have also been multiple musical adaptations of it. This Disney animated version added the slapstick elements you noticed, had a boy voice Peter, and had it all magically happen in one night. (In Barrie's play, the children really do stay away for months, and they bring the Lost Boys back with them.) But Disney did keep it set in 1904, so that's the period you're seeing depicted, back when well-off English families would always employ a live-in servant, a "nursemaid", to look after the children -- only in this family, she's a dog.
      I wouldn't make too much of the "This has all happened before..." narration that the Disney writers added -- it's basically saying that children have always had fantasies of taking off to have exciting adventures, and then they grow up.

    • @vixiestarfire
      @vixiestarfire Год назад +2

      @@DelGuy03 in regards to the “it all happened before” part, I’m sure it’s something Disney also added but I think they imply at the end of the movie that Wendy’s father went to Neverland when he was a boy, at least that’s how I see it when he says he saw the pirate ship before when he was young. I like to think he went to Neverland with Peter too 🥰

    Tinkerbelle can only "speak" through body language, gestures and her chiming sounds she makes. In the Disney's Faries franchise, she does speak but like animals speaking to each other, it's "translated" for us veiwers as shown in one of the films, when she talks to humans, they don't understand what she's saying, only her jingeling sounds like from this movie.

    Peter Pan is shown on Disney+ with the warning of racist content before the movie starts, along with other movies and/or tv episodes (such as The Muppet Show) that have similiar issues. It's a good thing in my book to show the movies and such uncut while still acknowledge the issues for people who do have serious problem with content or humor that is consindered racist today. Now if only Disney would release Song of the South again cuz such a classic shouldn't be hidden to the world despite it's problematic issues and acknowledge them like with the others. Disney should really stop from shying away from this, man up and just release it with a warning. Man, americans are overly sensative to a lot, they really need to chill down and just think about it without getting upset. Sure, racism is wrong but it shouldn't overdo it, just think of Cartoon Network not showing Speedy Gonzales just because they were afraid to offend mexicans but in reality they idolize him.

      I completely agree. They still stereotype 'white Southern people' as redneck hicks in movies and nobody seems to get bent out of shape about that. You also have to take into account that Native American culture/behavior in the 1700s (probably the basis of Disney's characters) was probably a lot different than today.

    Hans Conried plays both Captain Hook and George Darling, which is kinda tradition in the play that the same actor plays both characters.
    Mr. Smee and all the pirates are voiced by Bill Thomson who is best known for doing the voice of Droopy Dog but also been in a lot Disney movies including The White Rabbit and Dodo in Alice in Wonderland, King Hubert in Sleeping Beauty, Jock, Bull, Dachsie, Joe and the Irish Policeman in Lady and the Tramp and Uncle Waldo in Aristocats (his final role before his death in 1971), as well as the title character of Screwy Squirrel cartoon Big Heel-Watha, Tom's cousin in Timid Tabby (a Tom & Jerry cartoon), Professor Owl in Melody and Toot Whistle Plunk and Boom, Ranger J Audubon Woodlore in several Donald Duck and Humphrey the Bear cartoons, Station Manager Flannery in Pigs is Pigs (the Disney cartoon, not to be confused with the Merrie Melody of the same name) and the first ever voice actor for Scrooge McDuck in featurette Scrooge McDuck and Money (before Alan Young started voicing the character).

    The reason for Hook's obsession for Peter Pan is because the boy cut off his hand and fed it to the crocodile, named Tick Tock Croc in fanbase. Tick Tock likes the taste of Hook so much, the crocodile followed him ever since as Hook said it, possibly even travelling out of Neverland just hoping to seek a chance to get another chomp on Hook. This humiliated Hook and wounded his proud so bad, he vowed vengeance on the boy. That's what the crew meant when they are sick and tired of their captain's obsessive vengeance for Peter.
    This also works for Peter too. Before that, Hook plans to plunder treasures from other worlds, including Wendy's. He knows that the other worlds outside of Neverland won't stand a chance against Hook's pirates, for in this time Hook's crew were notorious and well known. To protect those worlds, Peter had to come up with a way to make Hook stay in Neverland prevent the pirate from putting other worlds in danger. As Peter cut off Hook's hand, fed it to the crocodile, giving Hook a humiliating defeat, Pan now has the thing to keep Hook where he wants him. For Hook will kow be so obsessive to Peter, the captain won't be leaving Neverland anytime soon.

    George Darling wanted to give Wendy her own room so she wouldn't be in the nurseary and the those "silly" stories about Peter Pan which gives her brothers ideas of wild games they play. Remember that he is a practical man, meaning he's the kind of guy who don't encourage child's games and trying to enforce them to grow up earlier, which is not something that should be encouraged, being a dad yourself you should be able to see that. Let your daughters stay kids as long as they feel like that and let them grow up at their own pace rather trying to make them into mini-adults.

    the archetypes in this movie are amazing. If a girl kisses Peter then he'll grow up! that's why tink was freaking out. wish you could watch jordan peterson break it down, he does great. "Never grow up, but don't forget to grow up" amazing sentiment from this movie.

    One thing I love about Disney movies, is that they're really good at the details of their animal characters. Example, alligators are not really good at jumping out of water but crocs are. So to have the croc leap out at hook in the cave, though cartoonishly exaggerated is a real thing. They do similar things with other animals throughout yrs.

    Other than that version, as well as Hook and Return to Neverland, I liked the 200?3? Version, and the Tinkerbell films.

    Not sure what the white piece in front of the suit is called but I've seen them being worn by men late 19th century through mid 20th century. A number of comedies use them like they are window blinds giving a tug and having them roll up to the persons chin. I believe they can be seen in some Bugs Bunny episodes and Three Stooges and possibly a few Little Rascals.

    According to Wikipedia: "The term arises from a device developed for use in the broad, physical comedy style known as commedia dell'arte in 16th-century Italy. The "slap stick" consists of two thin slats of wood, which make a "slap" when striking another actor, with little force needed to make a loud-and comical-sound. The physical slap stick remains a key component of the plot in the traditional and popular Punch and Judy puppet show. "
    But it mean a physical-type of humor, often an exaggerated mock violent action. The classic case was the comedian who would slip on a banana peel. This was funny to an audience who knew it wasn't real - if the guy had not moved after he fell and other actors ran out on stage because he had actually hurt himself, it would turn into a tragedy.

    In previous concept arts, Nana went to Neverland too.
    This idea was rescued for a special in Jake and the Neverland Pirates.

    The lost boys, and Pan himself came from babies who fell out of their baby carriages and thus got lost. They were just boys as it was said that girls were never that foolish to fall out.
    Neverland represents the ideal fantasy land that English boys might dream of - thus no cowboys, but yes Indians.

    In the play, Nana was played by someone in a dog suit, which was funnier than having a typical nurse or governess. I think she actually makes it to Neverland.

    I think Fantasia has some terrible representations of black people in it, but Im not sure if they edited out the scenes for disney+. But I think it's OK to watch it, as long as you acknowledge the bad things and don't pretend they werent bad.

    I think its okay, I think most people understand when watching this film that its an offensive depiction of native americans, similarly to Pocahontas - we know its not accurate to history. Dumbo had a similar offensive depiction with the black crows for black people. They normally put a disclaimer on those films now

    18:54 that guy who voiced Captain Hook is Hans Conried who also voiced Mr Darling in the film. Mr. Conried appeared in Disney projects such as Ben and Me as Thomas Jefferson, the Prosecutor from Anyburg, USA and the person who uses thumb tacks and a pea for bets on Davy Crockett.
