    As a Rolex owner I was always sceptical about all these chinese "hommages", and I was watch snob in general. But I must finally admit that it is perfect value for money. I will probably get this San Martin GMT rather then overpaying for Rolex Explorer II (I am not even saying that it is not possible to buy it from OD). Thanks for the review!

    The black Bay is a homage to Rolex. So this is also a homage. With a far more legitimate price range. Rolex and Tudor are overcharging. Engineering impresses me, not greed. Bravo San Martin.

    • @MarkDanger777
      @MarkDanger777 Год назад +5

      Let's be real, tudor can be a homage to rolex because its supposed to be the "cheaper alternative". These chinese "homages" are more of a replica than homage. I have nothing against the chinese "homages" but it's just a copy of everything except slapping their own name on it.
      P.S I own 2 "homage" watch, 2 rolex, and a tudor

    • @KB-vf4gz

      Hey Joseph do you know how to use the internet ? Tudor came out with the black bay as a homage to its own watch dummy. Tudor introduced the reference 7922 Submariner in 1954. A TUDOR SUB. Not a homage to Rolex. Your welcome

    • @josephmarkey9096
      @josephmarkey9096 Год назад +3

      @@KB-vf4gz There's no need to be insulting. The Tudor GMT is a Homage to its Rolex Explorer counterpart. The Black Bay in my view is just a Submariner with a different dial and hand set. Same design, therefore a homage.

    My vote for best bracelet under $500 is the glide lock bracelet on the Cronos Submariner homage. It is basically the same as a Rolex. I wish San Martin would make this style clasp.

    I concur about the bracelet. I have two of them and they are flawless. I rank it right there with my Strapcode that is on my vintage Seiko 6309. And you may not believe it, but it hangs right in there with my 2005 vintage Subbie bracelet.

    Own this watch. It’s excellent. Only criticism is the bottom edges of the case are almost sharp they’re so 90 degree straight and would love to see 200m WR without making it any thicker. Personal preference would be for a more yellow than orange GMT hand and text on the dial. Otherwise faultless and amazing value.

    It's really disappointing that Tudor can't match the things San Martin got right with this one. I'd happily buy the Tudor if it was 2mm thinner to match this watch; I want the Tudor's finishing & movement, I want the Tudor dial and hands, and I love their bracelet + clasp... I just know I can't do the 14.5mm+ thickness.
    As it stands, I purchased this watch (with the Hangzhou 6860, terrific feel & performance) as soon as it was available. Best San Martin model yet, IMO, and best budget GMT on the market that I've seen. I wear mine almost every day and it's really, really great on the wrist

    So minor for most but I wish the GMT text and hand were yellow like on the Tudor. They’ve made them more orange to pop enough against the off white dial version they’ve created (where they’d be great in red).

  • @PocketUau
    @PocketUau Год назад

    Perfect to me except for one thing. Not everyone noticed, but Tudor increased the distances between the 12, 3, 6 and 9 markers on some watches. For example, the Triangle at 12 is no longer aligned with the 11 and 1 markers, but it's significantly taller. I find this ruins the dial proportions, since unlike on a Submariner or BB58 where the markers form a circle, they now form a rhombus.

  • @malikknows3510

    Very nice video. Thanks. I chose the Steinhart Rolex 1655 homage for about $645 USD. A bit more expensive but also a better movement (ETA elabore), imho. I also prefer my homages to be watches out of production rather than a current offering. Not sure if the Steinhart is better quality, otherwise, than the San Martin, but looks great to me. I actually own the Tudor Black Bay Pro, love it, but am concerned about wearing it in dodgy places so I wanted a cheaper alternative gmt. All the best.

    Great video, really like your style of videos. This watch is on my to buy list but I'm in two minds whether it would benefit from a version with applied indices and I'm sort of holding out to see if san martin will release this. Having seen it in person what do you think? Would it benefit from applied indices? Thanks

    • @quality_times
      @quality_times  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! I appreciate your kind words!
      I think it looks great just as it is. San Martin released a new version with the NH34 GMT Movement but that doesn’t feature the “cut” baton marker at the 3 o’clock.
      In terms of applied indecies; if enough people want it, San Martin will make it. I think it would look good with applied markers but I also like the way it is right now. This version that I have is perfect in my eyes.

    • @quality_times
      @quality_times  Год назад +2

      that's true - I noticed that as well. Usually their newer Models are higher priced. As soon as the watch is a bit older, you can expect some nice discounts on it :)
      But, they also changed the movement of the watch. Now it's powered by the much cheaper NH34 instead of the high-beat 6460, which is more expensive to acquire I assume.
