I recently graduated with my master's in Public Policy and Administration. I don't have a PhD nor held/hold a position in the medical or scientific related industries. I have however, over 15 years of experience in advocacy in the rare disease/accessibility realm. I have worked with the pharma industry in the promotion of drug treatment for a specific rare disease as well as worked with non-profits, government and media in gaining access to treatment. Realistically, what are my odds of landing this type of position? Thanks.

    Hello!
I have a broad experience of scientific data collection (yearly essays, master's degree scientific works, research articles, CTD modules etc.) translation and transition to the involved people - those were the scientists, medical doctors, associate professors and students. I also have a regulatory experience in terms of PIL checking for compliance with MoH-approved documents.
    I've got a higher pharmaceutical education, a master's degree.
But I got no PhD/PharmD degree, however, I have a strong willingness to work in this environment.
I am not afraid of travelling and communication with people, especially the medical personnel, thanks to my previous job on a role of hospital pharmacist.
Do I even have a chance to get the MSL role?
Many thanks and greetings from Ukraine!

Le Patriote Panafricanist, it is absolutely possible, for example: Designing and leading studies. This could be for both marketed and investigative products. And that's just the start. Please get in touch at support@cheekysientist.com if you would like support in your job search!

Great video! Just one question, the US and Germany have a lot of MSL entry/internshit positions, but Ireland and the UK have no entry positions at all. In fact they all require 2-8 years experience. Would you recommend any routes into medical affairs such as medical communications or a "low hanging fruit" position in a company as a gateway in? My understanding is that it is an extremely difficult position to get straight after a PhD.

Daithi, this is a great question. Job descriptions are wish lists and not necessarily written in stone - if you have the necessary relevant skills, go for it. You can get hired right from PhD - we see this in the Association. Have you thought about a clinical trials coordinator or medical writing?

    •  5 лет назад

@@CheekyScientist Yes I have had first round interviews for medical writing positions but clinical trials coordinator positions for sure need previous pharma experience, at least in Ireland. USA, UK and Germany have plenty of entry positions, but Ireland seems to no entry/trainee MSL positions. That is my current problem.

Hey daithi , i am doing Phd in neuriscience(behavior pharmacology). MSL and clinical trial areas are my future wish list to choose my career path but have no experience in either of them. But as you mentioned, Germany has entry level positions. Do they hire and provide training or how does it work for entry level postions?. Thank you

Can psychology PhDs become a medical science liaison? I have clinical experience with patients, and am knowledgeable about certain topics (ADHD, substance abuse) so I thought it could be a good career path.

Is there a recommended PhD focus for obtaining an MSL career? Current, I am an FNP and deciding between a PhD in nursing vs biomedical science. I am leaning more towards biomedical science, but I feel that there are so many different research topics to choose from. Are some more beneficial than others for the industry arena?

The ideal path to take is a PhD in cancer research. Currently, the field of cancer research is expanding, and new therapies are being developed periodically.

This seems like an interesting role in providing/ interacting with KOLs about medicine or pharmaceutical products. Would it be common or possible for a person with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry (plus academic research background) to get a similar job as MSL?
    Thank you.

If youre a student still in a PharmD program, pursue a fellowship. Or get a PGY-1 residency to get clinical practice and then pursue a fellowship. I dont know why this guy said you don’t need clinical experience because companies LOVE if you have clinical experience already. If you have a PharmD currently, then you might need to make some connections with some people in industry. It’s hard to get in once you’re out of school but possible.

@@mcjovies36 Companies love to see that you have the skills to do the job you're applying for. So many PhDs get this experience through the process -- they just need to be able to communicate those key skills to employers. It's absolutely possible to make connections in industry, during school or out of school, with the right networking strategies.
