I appreciate it man! I've been dreaming about this since I got into the hobby in 2011. I was sundowning in 2020 but when I found out about FPV it revived the bug I had for this hobby. Alot more content is coming in the next few months. Stay tuned.
That was the goal. I didn't want her to look like a pretty bird. Took this into account behind the lowvis paint scheme and the weathering. She's approaching 40 flights I'm just trying to keep the upgrades coming to get this bird as many flights as possible thank you for your support!
I'm just getting into the hobby with the electric planes. To have something like that would be great. I don't know what type of battery I'm gonna be using though.
That's awesome, plane looks great. I have one and love it with wing plate and battery tray mod. Also upgraded with freewing 2150kv motors and freewing mig 29 esc's for reverse thrust that works great. Stock gear in my opinion are way to week for the weight of the plane. I constantly replacing stock gear even with good landings
The stock gear wouldn't be so bad if the they were just built sturdier and weren't prone to tow issues and camber. The mig 29 retracts were a hassle to install because they're much beefier and I had to do alot of dremeling to fit them and then I had to cover the foam with fiberglass and resin to make it structurally sound for landings. But that being said they're way better suited to carrier style landings. They're about 25% thicker than the stock ones and have a much stronger finish which should eliminate Tow. Its Definitely doable but a tricky mod for sure. I opted for Xfly motors because they had some really concrete data for thrust 3.4kg static and 2.9 housed in an F16 on RUclips. Over 10lbs was all I was looking for and I'm getting 12.6lbs atleast. And my jet weighs 15.2lbs.
Outstanding work, all around! I love how the FLIR pod has a real, gimbaling camera in it. Love the JDAMS, of course the FPV setup, and SPOILERS for crying out loud 🥲 Great idea to use Mig29 mains. They are so much more robust. Nice wheels too. I heard you say Robart 3.0 tyres but I couldn't find those on google. Can you please point me to the right ones, I'd love to get those for my F14 too.
Thank you! I wanted to make this model as close to the real thing as I could so I went as far as could. Still gonna install a tailhook and potentially an arduino powered (speed) light indexer at some point. Robart 3.0s CA be found here: robart.com/products/3-straight-tread-wheel if you want I can send you the stl file for the Tomcat wheel hub I used too! Just know if you install mig 29 retracts in your F14 you'll have to basically dremel out and rebuild your own gear mounts because they're quite a bit wider. Than the stock retracts. The suspension shocks on the mig 29 will also have to be swapped put with the og Tomcats to prevent the jet from having excessive kneel. If you have any questions lmk I'm more than happy to help!
@@FlightheroRC Legend! I printed out the wheel hub from RCGeek's stl but appreciate the offer mate. With the Mig-29 retracts, I was thinking of using only the struts, swap it with the thin F14 struts. Should be a an easy swap. It won't rotate but I can live with that. The strength is well worth it. Thanks for the tip on the spring. I've converted mine to turbine. I strengthened the airframe with an epoxy coat that makes it resistant to dings/scratches. Also put in a functional canopy, scale cockpit, afterburner lights, and some other crap. All that makes it a lot heavier (7kg AUW) so thicker struts are ideal. There are a couple of video on my channel, you might get some ideas for further scaling your Tomcat. Cheers
Very nice job I went with the FW Mirage 80's and 100amp ESC's running duel SMC 53/4600 hivolt packs mixed flying 5min with a minute easily in reserve. Luck on your maiden
The mirage is an awesome platform from What I've heard! I was running smcs for a while but all the Fpv wiring for the pilot and Rio take up alot of space so I opted to go with narrower batteries to make more space for those wires to sit in the tray area. I did a Maiden on this jet a year ago but I've yet to do a 2 seat tandem flight. That's what's coming next! Thank you for your support!
@@FlightheroRCTwo dji systems so close together even at different channels could be problematic. They all use the same channel for some pulses or something afaik. Please do a good "range check" and be ready to cut power to rio. The video antennas should also be further away from the fuselage/vtx in my opinion. Good Luck man!
@@snviperthank you! I noticed when I first started running them together one would be really powerful 50mbps and the other would only be capable of 12-15. So i set both on different channels and set the mhz to 20 now when running the air units together max MBPS is 25 but they're solid and consistent It's almost like audience mode but those numbers are constantly in my scan we'll see how it performs when I take it out to the field!
F14 is looking pretty damn good, i found out Tom hunts A10 pylons for the mk82’s work pretty damn good with 4.6 gram servos as a drop mechanism. Slapped them my kingfisher and did a couple test drops
Careful with that range. With no FC on an O3 I wouldn't think you'd be able to make it out as far as a mile. I still run vistas to avoid the arming requirement.
i just keep an eye on my Mbps ive been close to a mile just based on landmarks i saw in the air when i went back to look at them on maps but it was approaching 19mbps so i brought it back. im gonna get an ardunio to set it up for arming so i can get more distance soon
Ive been eyeing this 80mm EDF F14 for years, but i fear that when I finally pull the trigger and purchase one, I'm for certain that Free-wing will put out an upgraded version LOL
Rumor has it that they're upgrading the 80 as we speak. But dont @me on it lol. If you get it right now just be prepared to have to do some ground work to get it to fly and land the way you want. Definitely think about how you're going to reinforce the gear because I didn't believe it would be an issue when I got this jet 2 years ago but it's definitely an inevitable upgrade. If you have any questions just lmk it's still a great airplane once you get it dialed in!
Please post more flight vids. Night flying, bad weather , high altitude , distance flying from one airfield to another, would all be awesome to watch. Here’s an idea : magnetic charger deployed from a KC 130 for an in flight recharge.
I was thinking the same thing regarding the aerial refueling idea. my only issue right now is that I'm the only FPV guy at my airfield. That being said there I do have a design idea for a RAT generator for Rc planes to help get a charge going. But it'll be a project for the future. The flights will be coming soon as well. My RIO flight and dogfight against an SU27 will be next stay tuned!
Blown away, i feel like child's play after watching your videos. You've done an amazing job on this bird. Outstanding. 👏👏👏👏👏

@@FlightheroRC What did you use for the weathering? Some burnt amber
Wow, if you can make this plain fly for a longer time, you'll have a lot of people want that. That would be so awesome.
Yeah I'm experimenting with some batteries and other stuff. The goal is to hit 8min with conservative Throttle usage!
Are you planning to use Li-Ions?
