@@mykaruest3620 not necessarily true, divorce wasn’t common in the 18th century, but it wasn’t unheard of. Especially outside New England. Philip Schuyler was wealthy and head of one of the most influential families in NY, his daughter wouldn’t be on the streets, he could probably have pulled string to get the marriage annulled if Eliza didn’t give up on Hamilton.
i love those last scenes after elizas death, because it returns them all to what age they felt the most happiness. its symbolic in a way when both eliza and alexander turn into what they looked like when they first met.
Autumn Yoder Lin got his idea for Hamilton from a biography. Hamilton’s legacy was still well known before Hamilton. What Eliza did is incredible and she deserves credit for it
Eliza told everyone’s story. George Washington’s, John Lauren’s, Alexander Hamilton, Layfayette, Hercules Mulligan. She was so busy making sure they didn’t get forgotten that she didn’t even get to tell her own story. The story we are all sharing with each other today.
Without Eliza, Lin Manuel Miranda would never have known who Alexander Hamilton was. So, "Who tells your story?" Eliza. Yeah, I'm using the Translator... My english is horrible
the fact that Eliza's orphanage is still up to this day is amazing the orphanage is called Graham Windham it has serves thousands of kids and families each year.
I can't believe how loyal Eliza is. Instead of looking for someone else because her husband cheated on her, she stuck with him til the very end. She told Hamilton's story to the public and even raised funds for the Washington Monument, like omg
Fun fact, Angelica, Eliza, Burr and Hamilton are the only in costume at the end of the show. Because they are the ones who live, die and tell the story
It’s sad that Eliza is just seen as “Alexander Hamilton’s wife”. She has done so much and yet she gets nothing. When she said “Have I done enough” it was only for Alexander, she wanted his story to be heard, he helped build the Washington monument, and went against slavery. This women has my respect. She has also gone through so much pain, she lost her siblings (most of them died during birth), most of her children, and parents. Only three of her kids outlived her.
Blve Lemxonade you know what makes me happy? Before the musical on google she was labeled alexander Hamilton’s wife, but know she’s labeled soliciate, it’s not much but maybe in a few years she’ll be labeled a founding mother
Fun fact: this was during a time when medicine was not at its finest so you know, deaths everywhere so living till 90 yrs old is impressive considering the time period.
@@pipstix5487 I saw a comment on another video about this its said some thing about how Angelica match his rapping and his intensity but Eliza beatbox while he rapped almost as if she was supporting him I dont really remember the full comment but it went something like that
Eliza shouldn't be known as Alexander Hamilton's wife, she deserves to be known as a founding mother of our nation. Rest in peace, Elizabeth Schulyer Hamilton.
Eliza is kinda the true hero of Hamilton’s story in the end. Eliza could of just told the world that Alexander was a terrible person (not saying he is)or she could have just not told the world his story and stayed quiet, but she chose to tell the world his story and at that told the world he was great. Also in the process told the world the story of some of his friends. Hamilton could never have reached his success in the way that he did without her IMO (many historians agree). I love how in the show she goes from asking to be a part of the narrative to taking agency to remove herself from it. In the end she didn’t just put herself back into the narrative of the story. She became basically the author of it. That's my interpretation of the gasp at the end. She asks will all her work be enough, for the world to tell Hamilton's story and then she sees the audience.
I AGREE. Literally, when we went over the revolution during my freshman year in high school, my teacher had no clue who Eliza even was. I taught him who she was.
I remember reading a theory about how Eliza’s gasp at the end wasn’t her final breath or something, but it was her reaction to being shown the audience watching the play based off of all her effort. Showing her that her efforts meant something, that all her hard work paid off.
Lin makes a point of leading her to the edge of the stage and showing her the audience. She looks out, sees them, and gasps. I never once thought it was about her dying.
Eliza is AMAZING!! She is so strong… she lost so many people and was left alone after Angelica died to tell everyone’s story and she didn’t stop until her last days to tell everyone’s story because she loved them so much… she is perfect! I aspire to be like her… she is so kind.
When Eliza says “In their eyes I see you, Alexander” I burst out sobbing and luckily, none of my parents realize I am crying over someone who died almost 216 years ago (yes, I did the math).
Well i mean u wouldnt know because the whole point that ur in the orphanage is because u dont have any other close family (alive) (sorry if thats what u meant o.o)
“Don’t cry don’t cry don’t cry don’t cry.” Washington: “she tells my story”. *starts bawling*. “Can I show you what I’m proudest of? The orphanage”. *starts crying even harder*
God gave her the time she needed. So much bad happened in her life so this was the one think god could give her. And it was the only think she needed then.
ELIZAAAAAAHHH SHE STOPPED WASTING TIME ON TEARRRSSS SHE LIVED ANOTHER 50 YEARS SHE WAS ENOUGH ELIZAAAAHH SHE INTERVIEWED EVERY SOILDER WHO FOUGHT BY HIS SIDEEEE (SHE TELLS THEIR STORRRIIEEE)
this is one example of how the entire hamilton soundtrack connects. no song in hamilton isn’t related to another, they all mention another line from another song.
i realize why eliza was driven to establish an orphanage bc alexander was an orphan 😭 and she didn’t want kids to go through what he did (that’s right i thought of this after a month of having my comment up!) wow thx for 1k
"And when my time is up, have I done enough? Will they tell your story?" This got me thinking of when Burr says: "His enemies destroyed his rep, America forgot him" in the first song
Stop I cried so hard. I never cried during an hamilton song, but looking at this animated makes me really feel and understand the song. Makes me look at it from a different perspective. This is just beautiful
1:50 When you realize that when Eliza says “He gives me what you’ve always wanted, he gives me more time.” Hamilton didn’t want the time. He wanted Eliza to have it. *Ugly sobbing intensifies*
8 kids, when their first born Phillip died, they named their 8th child Philip, who is named after their late son. It is a common mistake as they had 2 sons with the same name
The last song successfully made me start calling Eliza “My Dearest Eliza”, I get weird looks but I have NO REGRETS this is so beautiful btw, like in a breath taking way, how smooth the transitions are and how the movements are very well connected! The facial expressions are so well drawn I don’t know what to say honestly, this is just practically perfect in every way!
I was watching the video while scrolling through the comments. As I landed on yours I read "the orphanage" and in the same second I hear "the orphanage" being sung. . . This spooked me more than anything-
I saw this in Dallas yesterday and I lost it at the orphanage part at the end. I was crying ugly ass tears and the lights came on and I frantically had to wipe them from my face so I wouldn’t look like a lunatic lmao
FUN FACT: Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton died at the age of 97 on November 9, 1854 meaning that she lived long enough to see the Continental United States be finished.
indeed she did... she also lived just long enough to most likely hear of the bloodshed in Kansas-Nebraska... its quite a miracle she didn't have to witness the nation she loved tear itself apart in 61'

Actually fun fact after this song, when Somebody leads Eliza to the front of the stage the character is actually "lin" And shes seeing him tell her story. :) (idek if this is true BUT ya know)
Fun Fact: At the end of this song (and therefore the end of the show), Eliza is led to the front of the stage by Hamilton, she looks up and she audibly gasps before the lights go out and the show ends. Although many people believe this simply represents her taking her last breath before her death, or an expression of joy at finally being reunited with Alexander, there is an amazing fan theory that it's not Hamilton leading her to the front of the stage, but Lin-Manuel Miranda (or whoever is playing Hamilton in whatever performance you see), and the gasp is an expression of awe at the sight of the audience. The theory is that Eliza is being shown that all her work was worth it. That the cast are telling her "you did it. You told his story. And now thanks to you, we can tell both his story, and your's."
The orphanage is still there to this day, who knows how many countless children would not have survived if it wasn't for her. In a way, her story gets to go on.
Lin is a genius not only was Eliza telling Hamilton’s life and everyone else’s but he told Eliza’s Story as well,And at the end of The Show you see her Look at the audience and gasp it took me awhile to figure out that she broke the 4th wall and saw that she saw 100 people and more watching her story. Great job Lin making everyone’s story especially Eliza’s he told
A very changed version of the story. In the song Aaron Burr, it states the year was 1776, and that Ham was 19. In 1776 the youngest he could have been was 20, not 19. Also, Lafeyette never met Mulligan in real life. Also, Burr and Lafeyette are both a year younger than him (that one is more of a fun fact). And Mulligan was actually 10 years older than Ham
Erin Connelly oh no I agree full heartedly. I absolutely love this musical so much, I’m just so fascinated by the little changes he made. Why was Hamilton 2 years younger than he was in the musical? Also if his age was changed but everyone else’s wasn’t (clearly Mulligan’s was) then he would be the exact same age as Eliza which I kinda like but I think the Schuyler sister’s ages were all changed accordingly. Either way it is so interesting to see
Today (9/NOV/2020) marks 164 years since Elizibeth "Eliza" Hamilton (Schuyler) passed away at 97 years old in washington. During the 50 years after Hamilton's death she suceeded in 'telling' the stories of those involved in America's independance and providing a place for young orphans to grow up (The orphanage was started just 2 years after hamilton's death!). Eliza is recognised as having founded the Graham Windham society, which cares for children and poor women with children
I love how Eliza out lives all of her loved ones but still lives her life happy but while shes waiting to see them she just tells their story like shes has to be one of the nicest people who ever lived
Solrocks Animates his son found out from the letters (im pretty sure the son was names John) and he was like "what a great idea! Im gonna name my son Laurens because my dad was gay for this dude John Laurens"
Fun fact: Do you know how in: “Burn”, Eliza burns all of her letters that she received from Alexander Hamilton while she was cutely lovesick during “helpless” after he cheated on her with Mariah Reynolds? Well, A. She was smart to attack his writing, other than himself with words. He took great pride in his writing, as you might know from the repetitive line “writes like he’s running out of time”. That’s kind of what hit him hard, one of the small amounts of things that could hurt him. She knew how life worked, man! B. She kept one of the letters in her pocket and carried it around with her everywhere until she died. I guess no matter how bad Alexander gets, she’s not ready to just let him go. You can tell that she was really in love, and she wasn’t ready to throw that all away, so she saved part of the relationship and carried it everywhere, almost as if she was keeping it alive. That might also be why she forgave him.
0:42 "Every other founding father gets to grow old. Every other founding father's story gets told. And when you're gone, who remembers your name? Who keeps your flame who tells your story? LIN MANUEL"
Fun/sad fact: Eliza out lives all of her kids before she died and she lives to be 97 years old and remember this takes place during the late 17, early 1800’s so living to 50 even was a big deal but living to 97 that was very hard to achieve since they didn’t have any modern medicine
Elizabeth Hamilton: Dedicated her entire life in order to make sure the man who ignored her and cheated on her was remembered, not even once thinking of herself. I only wish that more people told her story. :'(
I always tried to tell her story, Keeping it in my head, But when I spoke up and told her story, No one listened, Always saying she has no story, But she does. She saved so many children, And always saw Alexander. She tried to understand.
Her story is Hamilton’s cuz they are so interchangeable with each other and they were so connected. Her story starts with marrying Alexander and ends with her own death but it truly starts after Alexander’s death because she was far more important because Hamilton’s legacy past then is hers.
She also spent her time makng sure that a man who did his damnedest to save a country he fought and killed for was remembered, that a man who spent ages supporting her in her grief and stayed by her side when it was most important was remembered. Did you know the divorce and separation rate of couples who lose a child is approximately 90%? To support someone you love, rather than leave because they remind you of the loved one you lost, is incredible and takes an immense amount of dedication. Granted, I may be biased. I've seen that kind of dedication in person, after my cousin's death at 16.

Fun Fact:
At the end of this song (and therefore the end of the show), Eliza is led to the front of the stage by Hamilton, she looks up and she audibly gasps before the lights go out and the show ends.

Gaiden Of course it had to be changed! It’s a musical. Lin is a genius.
Erin Connelly oh no I agree full heartedly. I absolutely love this musical so much, I’m just so fascinated by the little changes he made. Why was Hamilton 2 years younger than he was in the musical? Fun fact:
Do you know how in: “Burn”, Eliza burns all of her letters that she received from Alexander Hamilton while she was cutely lovesick during “helpless” after he cheated on her with Mariah Reynolds? Well,

I started to cry when Eliza's part started honestly. she was such a great woman.
We're not crying of emotion...
We must hunt down those invisible ninjas who just love to cut onions.
I shed all the tears
Me: sobbing
My friend: why are you crying
me: If. Eliza saw the orphans grow up they never got adopted
Both of us: dehydrated from crying too hard
Dammit, why??? Why’d you make me cry again? 😭
Omfg, why, WHY
OH GOD IF YOU PUT IT LIKE THAT IT'S DEPRESSING OH NO
wait no stop--

Elizabeth Hamilton: Dedicated her entire life in order to make sure the man who ignored her and cheated on her was remembered, not even once thinking of herself. I only wish that more people told her story. :'(
SHE IS AN AMAZING PERSON!
@@simq7452 yes she is :)
