    My roofing contractor installed Atlas shingles on my roof this week and he did a fantastic job. He used the StormMaster Core 4 shingles combined with the Atlas Summit 180 synthetic underlayment. They also used Grace ice and water shield in the valleys that we had problems with on the original roof. I was totally satisfied with the products and the installation. They did a great job of cleanup also. Thank you recommending Atlas shingles.

    The Atlas three tab Stormmaster Class 4 was the best I'd found, but I went to Malarkey Vista when Atlas dropped that line. Architectural shingles suck. They look phoney, and if they develop a leak along the nail line, it can be very difficult to find. Replacing the bad shingles is also difficult, because you can't whittle those things apart without damaging adjacent ones. In high wind areas, three tabs stay down fine as long as you use extra adhesive within 4 feet of all edges, and you use 5 nails instead of 4. If a leak develops, you can find it at a glance.

    I’m not sure why but not a lot of roofing contractors around here don’t offer Atlas shingles. Two reps that I’ve spoken to have used the words inferior and cheap. The one offers a shingle brand that I consider pretty bottom of the line.
    Do yourselves a favor contractors, don’t degrade a good product. If you offer a good alternative just state the reasons you like working with the particular products.
    When you knock a good, reputable shingle different than your preferences it makes you look like a fool and not credible however quality your work is!
    Doing so will not earn my business.
    Also, Atlas is NOT a Menard’s product! They offer them here but they don’t own them.

    We are getting the Atlas Storm Master IV shingles installed on our roof in two weeks. The roofer mentioned he could save us some money, around $2500. I have read that Atlas offers rebates to roofers for using their products. Could that be where my roofer is getting the bonus cash to give to me? I am not complaining. Our roof is expensive because of the slope and size ($28K).

    • @RoofingInsights3.0
      @RoofingInsights3.0  5 лет назад +2

      Rebates to roofers are not big. On your project is probably couple hundred bucks at the most. Most likely they will use it to by stuff like hats, coffee mugs etc. I would let your roofer keep one of the small perks we have for the hard work. Thanks for question!!!! You made good choice

    I just started using Atlas shingles. I agree with all your points.
    The only downside of the Atlas shingle is on they're dimensional shingle. The tar strip is on the face as apposed to the bottom of the backside. My mechanics tend to accidentally step on the strip in the Summer and track the tar onto newly layed shingles.
    For a good quality shingle and reasonably priced you really can't go wrong.

    Because of the storms and the insurance company not paying for the roof. The contractor wants to use certainteed, I want atlas shingles, if we could get a certified atlas Contractor contractor and some help on donating some shingles we would be happy to advertise for your company by placing signs in the yard, putting a magnet on the car, passing out cards and flyers. Atlas is, I believe the way to go.

  • @Cheese-Head

    I got a quote for Atlas vs OC and the price difference is 3-4 grand. The OC installer trashed Atlas over OC because OC has a tar strip at the bottom when Atlas doesn't, and OC has a reinforced mesh strip on top that makes it nearly impossible to pull a nail thru the shingle. I saw both shingles with my own eyes and OC does look like a much stronger shingle. So now my question is should I pay a 3k premium for OC vs Atlas?

    • @jimmypautz
      @jimmypautz 3 года назад +1

      Atlas makes a better SBS Impact-rated shingle (Stormmaster) than the OC version (Flex) and they are cheaper. OC is good, but Atlas is on par with them. Not worth any premium.

    • @RobChapala
      @RobChapala 3 года назад +1

      Yes..pay more. 3k in the investment protecting your entire house is small for the length of time it'll be up there...the price is cheap, so there are going to be lots of "selling" to move them. As an installer, atlas needs so much extra care to install, that most installers go past that care to be quick, and the roof fails.

    I can’t believe he said that Owens Corning is a good brand! My friend and I both went through the same hailstorm getting the same size hail, and her roof was done with Certainteed Landmark shingles and did not even need repairs! So I got the same roof inspector that she used, to come look at my roof which has Owens Corning Oakridge shingles, and he said that I have lots of damage & that I do need a whole new roof! He showed me dozens of pictures of hail impacts that cut deep down into the shingles, exposing the asphalt fibers clearly, and some of the shingles were literally hole punched all the way through! He said I have so many damaged places that he lost count! Her roof is about 4 years old and mine is only 5.5 years old. Owens Corning shingles do not last! I will never be talked into using their product again by a slick salesman, and I will certainly not recommend their brand to anyone! I even had a roofing company owner (who is the dad of an acquaintance of mine) & from a different company, come out & look at my roof & he also said that I needed a whole new roof! (Both guys were from companies other than the company that originally installed my current roof).

    • @coryramsey6234
      @coryramsey6234 8 месяцев назад

      owens corning oakridge is not impact rated like their duration series, Certainteed landmark is impact rated. unfortunately you get what you pay for and you as the customer chose an inferior product from a reputable manufacturer. I install atlas, gaf, iko, tamko, malarkey, OC, and certainteed and no manufacturer is perfect but a shingle that is not impact rated is not going to stand up to hail no matter who makes it.

On the roof I'm going to do now I have a 4/12 pitch on 90 % of the house . The other part is a 2/12 pitch. The 2/12 is shingled now, so I was going to put shingles back on the 2/12. I'm having a room added to my house next to the 2/12 pitch. The add on is going to be a 4/12 pitch going into the 2/12 pitch making a vally . What type of vally should I do in this case? Should I use the synthetic underlayment or a tar paper? Any other recommendations?

No warranty what so ever on any of there products. this is the main reason why I'm either going with Malarkey,Owens Corning, or CertainTeed. It's a shame that Atlas thinks spray foam is not good and actively promotes false information about spray foam insulation.
