Investigation: Fake Disney "auditions" misleading parents, kids

- Online ads and radio commercials advertising free "auditions" for the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon are really a ruse to get parents to shell out thousands of dollars on acting classes and head shots, according to a FOX 46 investigation
I begged my parents to take me to one of these when I was 8. I got a "callback" and my parents were appalled at the $2500 fee and declined it. I'm now 26, living in Los Angeles, with an ACTUAL talent agent and talent manager. They have never and WOULD never ask me for a penny- they make 10% only when I make money from work that they got me the audition for! Any "agency" that asks you for even $10 upfront for a "website fee" is a SCAM!

You still hear these ads on the radio (although not really now due to COVID) and one thing I notice is they’ll mention shows that haven’t been on the air in 5+ years or names who haven’t been affiliated with Disney since the early 2010s (Selena Gomez for example)

This happened to me they told me to pay 1000 dollars my parents left and didn't pay cause they were smart and knew it was a scam

I went to one of these scams. Me being a young child I of course wanted to try out, I got called back and they said I would be on level 5 $7900 and they said I was going to go to a camp but my mom couldn’t be there so she said no and we walked out. Years later I know it’s a scam AND IM SO GLAD my mom said no and we didn’t get copped out of a lot of money.

Me/my parents fell for this and did one of their acting "classes" like 9 years ago. I feel really bad because I begged my parents for it and only realized it was a scam after they wanted $5,500 so I could go to LA for additional auditions.

Central casting in LA is the only legit agency. No money involved just gotta get lucky and fit whatever the directors are looking for.

Same thing just happened to me… I literally talked to the owner of iPOP Rob Patterson just an hour ago. To join you have to pay so much fckn money. It’s about 11.500$. That can’t be legal.

There was a similar group called “The” pronounced Tay making the rounds over a decade ago.
One of my kids signed their sibling up for a “casting call” for possible roles in “Disney” shows. They claimed an association with the dad (David DeLuise)on “Wizards of Waverly Place.”
We did it because we thought it was a sweet gesture by the sibling. Upon entering the hotel conference room, it was pretty clear that they were selling $5k to $10k trips to Disney World if you “passed” the audition. We told our kids (who were all offered auditions) that they would 100% be called back the next day. We had to tell them that this was a scam taking advantage of people who would probably pay to go to “Disney camp” thinking it would get their kids in front of talent agents.
We told our kids that agents look for kids with the look. You don’t pay, they do.
These ad scams are coming back
I did one of these when I was 12 in Michigan for an agency called ipop, I had put in a lot of work with chores and stuff. Made it to the final round & everything. I’ve still went to do music. But I believe I still have acting in me

John Casablanca modeling agency did the very same thing to me back in 1988. Advertised as a casting call and when I showed up , there was a room full of other potential suckers. Needless to say, it was just a rouse to get me and the rest of us to sign up for modeling or acting classes. Which by the time they had me all worked up I was eager as hell. I was 18 and ready to go. I called my parents from her office then that was it.

I remember doing this when I was about 16, in the 90's! They said I had to pay hundreds of dollars and I had to do it by 5 pm......that's wild. I always wondered if it was legit? Now I know :)
i remember my sister went to one in a hotel in downtown miami i had no idea it was a scam luckily my parents saw the prices too expensive
The dad from Good Luck Charlie came out to Hawaii with them. They didn't even like children and were very rude and impatient. I immediately called them out and was escorted out. The only thing that surprised me was the amount of parents willing to stay after seeing how bad they were treating the children when they were doing their pitch/intro. I didn't stick around to even find out it was a scam. I just knew I wouldn't put my children with people like that

They also came to the Netherlands and held these fake auditions 🤡. Like we all had the American dream! We thought we had a chance of making it big! I remember how I saw all the people who basically paid the 8k euros cheering about how they were about to chase their dreams! 😂I remember how I wanted to go so bad! But thankkk goodness my mom wasn’t able to the pay 8k!
also did this, did a premiere audition in canada, was set up to go to florida, but something in me had a change of heart. i didn’t want to go anymore and become an actor. we had paid almost $4K to go, luckily we were able to get all of our money back and i never really had to suffer some of the consequences others have.

Barbizon isn’t fake it’s not an agency but I got discovered and met my now two agents from them. I am now able to find Disney and Nickelodeon auditions because of them. Tell me how Barbizon didn’t help me move forward. Not everyone that takes Barbizon classes are able to get agents like I did.
I have an audition coming up online. My friend had one with the same website and said its real, a disney star came. I dont know if it is real but now I know not to do it if it costs lots of money.
I had an audition some hours ago and it was on zoom! they showed like 3 videos basically explaining the company and how it works, there was this one person named “quince” who kept explaining stuff to us and had a lot of energy so I was really interested! I did my audition and before that he said there was only 3 spots and I got one of those 3 spots, my parents think it could be a scam seeing all the other companies that have scammed people and the prices are like 2,000+.. after seeing reviews I’m second guessing and thinking I should just get my own portfolio and send it out to agencies in my area instead! I also saw one comment that said the JC organization didn’t work with the actor that stared in kim possible the real John Casablanca did! and the people on the zoom said the exact opposite of that, I don’t think they’re right for me!

This isn’t new at all back in the 2000s these scammers mailed advertisements and had radio ads. Trying to trick children into thinking auditioning for them would get them famous.
So sad. I came here because I just signed up and I want to do my own investigation. i went thru this before did audition with my son only for them to tell me i have to pay 2500 which is like a training ting preparing them to be ready. so wrong. but ill continue to look something for him cause he love it.

I am so glad that my parents never fell for that scam cause it could of costed them their life at loss. But I do remember seeing ads with JoJo Siwa with those but never found interest.

It's always better for people to seek out upcoming directors and writers that post their own content every director that's coming up typically joins a Facebook group and make just small little contents where an actor comes in if a director meets an actor that they work well with they'll typically work with that actor as much as possible especially if their contents matches or goes well with that actor I write and direct and it takes a long time to save for even one project but even struggling directors don't ask for money they will ask for the public to buy and support their work or donate so they can make more content but they say it just how I said it and are upfront instead of how these lying casting agents ask for money for fake gigs that will never happen also someone with actual content will be able to tell you at least the basis of their show what parts their casting for where it'll be posted ECT Finding a director is honestly great but finding a director that writes their own content YOU'VE HIT THE JACK POT IF YOU CAN FIND THAT definitely makes me happy when I get together with other directors that can also write

Next star is a scam. Just like many other scam "agencies" they are just ridiculously expensive acting lessons in disguise.

Most likely not, but I wouldn't be surprised sadly. Usually these scams are disguised as acting classes. But if any were disguised as trafficking thats even worse and should be investigated immediately.
