Another amazing video. I do need to string Allen and Redfield for a hiking buddy that needs them, and this would be an epic way of doing that.

I have never had the guts to *intentionally* go off the herd paths, although it happened not infrequently when I was first hiking in the Adirondacks during the 70s, when the herd paths were much less well defined (e.g., quickly lost the path up Marshall; lost the path up McComb; lost the path down Street and Nye; had to bale out down the back side of Couchsachraga to the southside Cold River horse trail when we ran out of water up there on a hot summer day). In any case, I have often looked at the map and wondered what it would be like to just cut across various portions of the forest, and your videos give me a taste (and I know they have a happy ending :-)). Thanks!
I plan on getting Allen this year and last year I got Redfield alongside Gray Peak Skylight and Haystack during my 21 hour hike
Your videos are beautifully shot and edited. I appreciate them and have found several of them to be useful when planning my next trips (at 28/46). To preface my following statements, I fully admit that I have made mistakes in the woods, but I try to learn from them. Your videos will no doubt inspire others to come to the High Peaks, and I don't wish to be a gate keeper. I DO, however, wish to inspire others to come and experience the Adirondacks with a full understanding and willingness to follow Leave No Trace principles.
I have stayed in Uphill Lean-to and while there, saw bear scat on the trail that included food wrappers. Nuisance bear activity is a major issue in the Eastern High Peaks, and it is due to the failure to follow responsible and ethical practices. The stove sitting in the lean-to leads me to believe you did not follow the "bear triangle" practice of sleeping in one place, cooking and eating in another, and properly storing food and scented items in a third spot, with good separation between all three. I did not see a bear canister in your shots, but perhaps you did have one and were using it. I hope so.
I would love to see a short piece somewhere in every video about LNT and ethical hiking/camping. I realize it would alter the vibe of your vlogs, but I hope you and others would agree that given the extreme high use of the High Peaks, the exposure your videos get could be a vehicle for positive change there. At the least, editing out examples of violation of the best practices would be a good start. I think of your Cliff/Redfield summer video, where a socks/sandals clad member of your group ventured off trail to avoid the mud on the Calamity Brook Trail. I feel that it was your responsibility to inform the new guys of better gear choices so they came properly prepared.
So keep vlogging, but think more about the negative influence they can have and how you can change them for the better.
Thanks for the feedback! I did have a bear can on this hike, and all of these concerning elements are from older content. It does not reflect who I am now or what content I make. I have also taken the liberty to remove most of my “lesser responsible” content from years past.
I will also say that my more recent content such as my weekly reports and newer videos touch on LNT and responsible hiking as you have mentioned! 2021-2022 content and future are entirely geared towards these very important topics. I hope in my newer videos and coming videos, this is noticeable! Thank you again for the feed back and I greatly appreciate it and take it seriously.
That's why I never trusted a water bladder in my pack. Awesome video though. I've really enjoyed your videos. It's inspired me to start peak bagging the 46. I live in NYC and will be making my way up north this spring.

Amazing work documenting this! Thoroughly enjoyed every minute! Possible idea to try the Finger Slides on the side of Dix Mt., those are intense and after crossing the slides you can bushwhack up to the summit like you did in this video.

Wow, that was a struggle all the way up that slide. Thought I was looking at Frodo and Sam climbing Mount Doom. (ha ha) Quite the change of pace from some of your other climbs, but still enjoyable to watch. Awesome job!

I can confirm the peaks were snowed on this past weekend, was up on Dix. I think he put a subtitle saying this video was from late september.

I have no clue. It wasn't really a photo. I just hand held it for a sec.

Hello Jonathan I am 12 years old and you have inspired me to become a photographer I come up here on vacation and I was wondering if you have a suggestions about a camera which is easy to use and on the cheap side of things. Love your videos keep up the execellent work.

Hey Jasper! It's awesome that you want to pursue photography. In terms of a camera that is easy to use that I would recommend and low price is hard to find. But I would recommend taking your budget and applying that to a Google Search for Nikon or Sony cameras. I believe those are the 2 superior brands in the camera world!
A simple I phone, or comparison. Hundreds of Long Trail hikers vlog their hikes each year with stellar quality.
For some examples if interested, search Appalacian Trail 2019 and many will come up.

I wish I could watch these videos without having to endure at least one cringe-worthy moment.
