You have fun with that. I think the Santa Clara show when they won was prop overkill and stupid. The reason props and sound effects started taking hold was the lack of quality in the drill being written.@@Jeremattress
@@rstrunks I know, and the point I was trying to make is that a perfect show would have synergy between the future and the past. I do agree with you that Santa Clara's 2018 show was prop overkill, but when you have props that add so much to the show without hindering drill, such as any prop Hebron HS uses, Broken Arrow HS (sometimes they go overkill), and Vandegrift HS, I think you have a great show.
Yeah but thats not whats happening. Prop placement takes priority over every other element of the show. I battle this every year with my clients and talk them back from the cliff edge... MOST of the time. Other times its a complete disaster that I warned would happen. They are so worried about the damn props that nothing else matters.
another visual masterpiece from Gaines paired with the (for my money) best visual instruction in the country. it's not even fair! Stunning and subversive
I find it funny how people say carmels drill is “easy” when they(Carmel) always goes full out at the end of the show. I mean they are ALWAYS moving and it’s CLEAN! The same people complaining is the same people who’s band only does blocks and arcs and even those aren’t clean. Let Carmel breath omg
I'm glad to have competed along side you guys as well as Carmel the past two years. Regardless of what people say you all have worked hard and I hope you cherish these memories for a long time!
For everyone saying they had really easy music, drill, and overall it wasn't that interesting: that's the point. You see bands like Tarpon Springs doing all this crazy stuff, but they'll never actually win because they're a *performance* band and not as focused on being competitive. In other words, they appeal to the audience, who isn't looking for the same things that judges are. Viewers are there to see something that'll make them go "wow, that's pretty cool to see", while judges are watching for technique, drill accuracy, musical dynamic, and clean visuals. Top bands like Avon, CHS, and Broken Arrow often provide something that appears very minimalistic because they prioritize winning over wowing the audience. Is that bad? No, not necessarily, they just understand who they need to appeal to because at the end of the day, it's not a popularity vote.
I wondered how judges did their judging & how they name winners when the crowd feels the opposite 90% of the time. So even if a show is boring, bands will win because judges aren’t human. Got it. Lol I’m kidding!
@joonnjp88 yeah at my boa johnson city Cass highschool got 4th place when almost everyone thought they deserved 1st or 2nd and my school pope got 9th even though Most people thought we deserved top 5
@joonnjp88 Yeah, I don't think I watched Arlington, but I disagreed with a lot of the rankings, my director says that he would be happy with last place if it was our best preformance, and also to remember that marching band is art and all judges have a different taste so there not much you can do about it.
Carmel also just basically has super slow drill and plays whole notes and half notes the entire show like a grade school music performance. No difficulty. 😢
@@truthteller8504 I can agree with their drill being slow but their music is not easy. If you think having music like Broken Arrow, Hebron, and Avon is normal then you're wrong. Music that hard does not come around everywhere. You have to take into account that having a show so hard also leaves much more room for error than a show like Carmel's, whose show is performed nearly perfectly
Carmel has more of an overall package which is why they succeed. Texas doesn’t prioritize visual as much as they do music. And while playing lots of notes can be powerful, the chords and the intonation Carmel produces is second to none. Two different styles, but I personally love the overall package much more than a heavy music focus.
I saw this show live, it was by far the most beautifully played and has the cleanest movement but knowing Carmel they could have done more especially with guard. I mean they won World Class so they should have done more.
Their drill isn’t physically difficult, but is definitely hard to be in the correct spot. Music isn’t the hardest there was, but the tuning was great, which is why they won.
@@truthteller8504 I only saw them live once, and it was when I was a performer and got to see them after we performed. You’re probably right about the tuning, since I had been awake for 18 hours at that point, so everything sounded good to me. Plus I’m a percussionist who knows very little about wind instruments. I do think Avon had the better show tho.
Then leave. These kids worked damn hard to put on this performance. Just because you didnt think they should have won or that some other band did things better, doesnt mean you can just invalidate all the hard work and care they put into this. These arent characters in a film, they're children doing something they love. Show some fucking respect
This show has a mid-2000’s vibe to it. Minimal props, really clean drill and music. Maybe we’re trending back to that style now
wouldnt that be nice!
@@rstrunksI am a big fan of mid 2000s music and drill, but I really love 2010s and 2020s sound effects and props. A mix of the two would be perfect.

Not my favorite show design but i appreciate how well peformed this show was. They deserved the win.

My band director likes to be the crowd favorite we still won 2 out of three of our competitions but it was a really fun show

This is the first video I’ve seen of finals! Thank you
Bro I have to compete against these guys this year at BOA Louisville
They're so good they don't even look good,😭 I to to Hebron and they're scary. That's how you know they're insane
don't worry, we aren't nearly as intimidating as you might think

Thanks 😁 It was fun to be a part of

GG well played.
IMO, they don't have the same power that the top texas groups have. I'm surprised they're ranked so high in comparison to them.
