The First EV Shooting Brake Is A Monster - Zeekr 001 Review

  • The 001 is a beast no matter how you look at it. In dual-motor form it produces over 500hp, sprints from 0-100kph in just 3.8 seconds, and comes in at just under 2 metres wide and 5 metres long. The first car from Lynk & Co spin-off Zeekr, this is a full electric vehicle with a lot of attitude, and it's coming to Europe. Would you buy one?

    European and US automakers are worried about Tesla, but really they should be worried about the Chinese EV automakers who can build cars like the Zeekr at half the price of the legacy automakers and offer more luxury items to boot.

There are some channels with a lot of subscribers that have comments underneath that are filled with comments from many Chinese car brand PR companies. They will refute any comments that express doubts and negativity about their products. All I see in the current position of your channel comments are middle of the road comments. About the chip. Zeekr tried to pull a fast one and fobbed off a lower spec snapdragon 820A inside on some of the early delivered cars. It was exposed and triggered enormous outrages among the owners, because 8155 was promised on their launch and the inferior chips are quite laggy. Then Zeekr offered compesations like store credits and free charging and things like that and was declined. Finally they decide to take thier medicine and offer upgrade to 8155 chip free of charge to all owners before their first model tuning into a fiasco. You can see the result in the sales rebound in the last couple of month.

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  2 года назад +2

      Absolutely. I wasn't aware of all the fobbing off side but the chip we had was certainly problematic. 8155 seems to have solved all those issues so it was the right action eventually to roll it out for free and fixes the one weak point we had on our car. Over 7k sales in August with just one model is impressive.

    There’s a 27.5% ( including 25% discriminatory tariff)tariff against China made cars, that’s why very few of the excellent Chinese EVs are making sale efforts in the US as of now. In fact, Tesla would have brought some of the Shanghai made higher quality 3 and Ys into the US to help the backlogs if not for the tariff. In addition, the new “inflation reduction act” excludes cars made outside of NA and largely excludes China made key components.

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  2 года назад +5

      Correct. It's a sad state of affairs when you have to put huge tariffs on another country's EVs because your own legacy brands are too slow, unwilling, or incapable of producing decent ones themselves.

      Geely could potentially OEM at a Kia or Hyundai plant in South Korea in 2025. This can bypass the problem of tariffs in the North American market. Because South Korea and North America are reciprocal trade countries. There are no tariffs when they buy and sell goods.

      @etbadaboum Good news for Geely is that the SEA-based cars can reportedly be made in any of their 14 factories and I believe there may be one in Europe so they could potentially pivot at some point to get round those tariffs. Not sure if they will but it's a thought.

      @@InsideChinaAuto Indeed, I didn't think of that. Volvo has cars on SPA, CMA and SEA platforms and helped develop some of them so they could do the production. BYD is apparently looking for a factory location in Western Europe.

      China car, designed and engineered in Sweden.
      Actually, the Head of Vehicle Architecture Center at Zeeker (and SEA platform chief engineer) is no other than Kent Bovellan, former Saab chief engineer and Volvo director.

      @lt6532 Indeed. I've sat down and interviewed him in Sweden. Great guy and his work on SEA is amazing, very impressive.
