I had a great time with this DLC, it took me a full 9 hours to beat on stream on the 2nd hardest difficulty, and the mission and unit variety were seriously fun. The characters were fun too, and I like that they didn't just copy the same dynamic they had in Raising Hell, instead going for a far more friendly relationship.

Rimmy, The ballistic missle turret has map wide range btw,
you have to manually target it, making hornets nest gone easier
Afterall, ITS A BALLISTIC MISSLE >:)
I love the timing for this, as Humble Choice announced this month's games, and Terran Command is one of them along with a 25% off coupon for the Raising Hell DLC. I know what I will be spending my 4th of July playing.
i feel like the next dlc will happen on a prisioner "reform" planet and we literally have to be prison guards and prisioners fighting to survive
while MI come to help
I told shams jorjani you had the idea with the helldivers rts. Wish me luck, maybe he'll answer 👍
FRIENDLY FIRE!!!
@5:45 Love the implication:
*Fed Accountant:* "Hello officer, I have a few questions about this expense report? To start with, I see you've ordered a few thousand grenade launchers?"
*Police:* "Need 'em for rioters. And bugs."
*Fed Accountant:* "And the one thousand crates of frag grenades?"
*Police:* "Cheaper to get 'em in bulk by sharing with the MI."
*Fed Accountant:* "..right. And the, uh...sentry turrets?"
*Police:* "Need 'em for bugs."
*Fed Accountant:* "And the holographic emitters?"
*Police:* "Bugs."
*Fed Accountant:* "Please don't blatantly lie to me, officer."
*Police:* "..corporations pay us to advertise during riots."
*Fed Accountant:* "Much better, thank you."
I like the implication that this is just a bureaucratic ritual that happens every time the expense report comes across the accountant's desk.

I salute the writing of this game truly it is wonderful.
so when I heard "MPD" for some reason my first thought was "Mobile Police Department" instead of Mahanagar police department

@@jackjones2454the Mobile Military Police, now armed with missile Gundams
Their entire police station is on baba yaga-ass walker legs. The repair cost (to the station and the streets) is astronomical, but it's amazing at raising morale.
Considering Mahanaga is on a contested world it makes sense why the police are armed the way they are because they are expected to act as the First responders to a bug threat if the MI isn’t around.

"Oh."
This reminds me a lot of a Starcraft fan campaign. UED: First Light. It's not exactly canon-compliant, but it's a really cool campaign about a hypothetical zerg invasion of Earth when Earth is REALLY not ready to face down something like that.
The whole first mission is a really lengthy hero mission where you play as a patrol cop responding to disturbances in the city. First you respond to an 'animal attack' that turns out to be zerglings, then more pop up throughout the city. It turns into a whole ordeal where you respond to crisis points and try to save people while the invasion rapidly grows worse and worse, all on the same map.
Ah, yes - Myra Davis, Destroyer of Worlds.
Literally the first person I thought of when I heard the plot synopsis for this DLC, but I couldn't remember her name. Had to check GiantGrantGame's playthrough to refresh my memory.
@@BlackPsionicAnd let's be real here, Myra Davis survived that nuke.
I swore off Starcraft 2 due to the sheer gong show ActiBlizz turned into, but good to hear fan campaigns are still as creative as I remembered.
I think part of what makes this game so good, is that it manages the challenging task of effective storytelling in an RTS format. Not just in the form of good writing and quality cutscenes, but also in the use of the actual gameplay mechanics and maps too, that creates a more immersive and cinematic experience. The only other games that achieved that (that I can think of) would be the Starcraft series.
Another part of it is the obvious heart that is still being poured into the game's expansion and development, with a decent sense of humour clearly still present as well!
32:00 aah yes my favourite slogan, FUND the MPD!

24:05 That engineer managed to finish the emplacement but got stabbed through his guts as he pressed the ON button, what a hero 🫡🫡🫡
The news report of Starship troopers have a very distinct feeling to it. It's not just propaganda, it's cinematic propaganda. When things go wrong, they aren't constantly going "It's not a defeat or a retreat, it's a tactical withdrawal and a victory in the making at work !", their news broadcast have a flair for the dramatic, what will keep their citizens glued to their seats. If things have gone wrong, they don't hide it, but they always spin it in a way that instead of creating fear, it create suspence like a movie film. You want to see your hero wins, and if they do, grand celebration ! All is well that ends well. If they didn't ? Do not worry, high command always has a backup plan and it's already happening !
Sodaz shout out wasn't expected, but duly appreciated. His work truly is amazing

33:55 On that casualty feedback, having like, The Casualty Wall like in that scene after Klendathu where randomly generated names/ranks with a label of what squad they were a part of would be awesome. A credit roll of all those lost after a mission.
Like, imagine that last mission. You'd have a scroll of like, Pvt. Liams - Engineer, Spc. Sanchez - Pulse Trooper, Pfc. Garner - Rifle Trooper, then among them you've got standing out, Sgt. Keys - MPD.
I noticed at 42:32 that the space ports minimap shows the building in the shape of the federation Eagle. Not sure if I'm super unobservant to have not noticed it sooner or not but either way I thought that was a cool detail.
Imagine if that *other* Starship Troopers game had a developer who obviously cared as much as this one does.
The recent update is cool at least, and anecdotally the performance has improved, although my personal experience is that performance is about the same.
what other Starship Troopers game *cough* *cough*
?
There is no other Starship Troopers game in Ba Sing Se.
I am talking about Starship Troopers Extermination, the one that Rimmy played a year or two back, which played well at first showing but had poor performance when updated to be closer to launch state, in contrast to traditional early access game progress.
EDIT: I am also talking about after the 0.8 update, which added in persistent corpses, which really revitalized my interest in the game, along with containing more performance patches that led to the anecdotal performance improvements.
A police-themed DLC that ends on a Brain Bug being 'shot while resisting arrest' wow lol
I love how the dlcs show the different sides of the federation with the merc one showing the corporativist and ruthless side while the police one shows the more humane and "good" side purely through the characters and broadcasts, like the part where it is implied that they show the names of every loss, shows that in a way the fed does care
think that might be civilian only though
Imagine ur a beat cop doing ur rounds and u turn a corner and a fucking Arachnid is just eating a raccoon in an alley. 😂

In regards to 'they swim now': the Roughneck Chronicles had two very notable bits where the bugs could, indeed, swim.
First was an entire episode/season on a planet called Hydora, which was effectively 99.9*% water. Hoppers were fucking everywhere in that one, and more than once they burst out of the water to attack (unless I'm misremembering that part)
Second was on Earth, they were doing the whole 'flood the subway' thing by planting bombs alongside a riverbed to sink some bug tunnels that were getting prepped for a massive subterranean invasion of a city. One of the hazards the team was met with was, indeed, swimming bugs. Looked kinda like smaller tankers if memory serves.
So yes, 'they swim now' is a genuine concern for that tactic.
The airstrikes are from the fleet members and are their main way of combat.
The governor's incompetence really shines a light on the inner workings of this universe. Clearly the whole "citizenship for only veterans" thing doesn't actually prevent leaders from making bad military decisions.
Before the war with the Arachnids, there were no major conflicts. Maybe the occasional riot or minor colony revolt. Most politicians who served in the Armed Forces had never seen combat, and many were already wealthy civilians with connections before serving their two year tour.
Did anyone notice the whole funeral fednet was a backhanded insult to Keys for not being identified as a psychic prior and therefore wasting lives doing so.
I think it was more of a matter to spreading awareness. Keys herself lived her whole life not really paying attention to her Psionic ability
Kinda makes sense for a police force to be this well armed, they would have to act as fiest response to any bug incursion while the military deploys

To be fair to the police they do mention that a bug or two do get to the city in the intro.
I think Rimmy might enjoy Empires of the Undergrowth - I've enjoyed it immensely for it's straightforward, macro-focused RTS gameplay mechanics, concise, objective-focused campaign where most missions aren't just 'kill the bugs that aren't you,' and the fantastic graphical, narration, and music direction that really sells that you're seeing the world through an ant's eyes and gives their conflicts the stakes of a real human war. Plus, it's a taste of the bug experience, on a smaller scale of course
gotta say this game does such a good job of giving you really powerful units in just the right moments, to make them feel really valuable but also really impactful.
while at the same time not overusing them or making them a "regular" unit like some games would.
You mention being impressed at what this Starship Troopers RTS game is doing, but I feel it necessary to bring up Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy as well. It was so cool, and I feel like the devs totally loved that game with how Terran Command is
I am a simple man. I see Rimmy, and I click.
The police department here is just the average US police department 😅
Pretty sure that Passive Air Support is from the Fleet officer, its basically their Auto Attack now I guess? Oh well it WORKS so Im not gonna question it.
Never would I have thought that Rimmy would ever mention SODAZ. I assume you have seen his old warhammer content as well?
I just like that this game explores a large part of the Troopers' arsenal that we never get to see in the movies or even other games. There are a metric fk ton of equipment that the Starship troopers universe has on hand to deal with certain events and disasters... much of it usually being ruined by politician corruption funneling money from said projects to better their own wallets. Though, in this universe, the second things go bad, said politicians are usually the first to die.
Ive been waiting for this video
Sgt. Keyes was a true citizen, went above and beyond in the line of duty
Tbh I am surprised this universe even has police instead of just the standard MP's doing the job.
At the end when I saw the casualty numbers for the city my first thought was damn those are low, the city seems to be based on Manhattan Island and the population of that is 1.6 million only losing 102,025 in what is essentially a surprise attack where most of the city is lost is really low and that number seems to include civilian and military casualties this is an absolute terran win in my books.
After the Mobile Infantry's liberation of Gehenna from the Arachnid threat, news came in from the planet Varuna that it's Capital Mahanagar is in the midst of a major battle with the arachnids and the local police forces are at risk of failing to stop the horde.
Terran Command has chosen to mobilize many of it's Mobile Infantry Batallions and one of them is Rimmy's Ruff-necks.
Terran Command has expressed great interest in this batallion for not only being the major force in liberating Kwalasha but also being the major force in liberating Gehenna.
Major Rimmy might get himself another promotion or citizenship if he successfully leads his men to defeat the bugs once more.

Okay, ideas for the Helldivers RTS.
Helldivers are like the elite unit of the Super Earth Faction, and can basically be called in anywhere are on the battlefield.
The coolest thing that would be really hard to balance is if operations done by in the RTS could effect the war effort in the main game.
to
Like, an RTS player could say, defend/liberate a city, which would add some liberation percentage to the planet they did the liberation on.
Edit: some concepts for units and general gameplay.
The main resources of Super Earth would Requesition and Samples. Basically, Requestion would allow you to unlock units, comission the building of structures (Think your standard barracks, factory, and command center). Samples let you upgrade those units with new aspects. Requestion is gained simply by completing objectives and can just be found lying around the map. Samples are found similarly.
So, lets take the standard squad of SEAF soilders, it's 5 guys with liberators. Now, this could turn into an Machine Gunner squad, an Anti-tank squad, or a Breaching Squad. Basically, units have upgrade _trees_ rather than a static set of upgrades. You advance through these trees by veterancy. Basically, an AT squad can engage smaller target, and an MG squad can engage (some) bigger targets, but they REALLY excell in there respective feild.
Samples on the other hand are used to make one unit just a little bit better. Like increasing a units walk speed.
As for units.
A Democracy Officer, serving the role of a "General" unit, the Upgrade tree is either focusing on buffing allies with _Patriotism_ and anihlating enemes with _Freedom_ (Also called a 500kg bomb).
Engineers could either be Combat engineers, able to build things like Sentries, mines, and fortification, or Archects, able to build more hardy defenses for your base.
For passive Income, we have the SEN reporters, out to get live footage, their main upgrades is to either focus on combat footage or Super Earth. The Combat footage specalists might get a drone, and the Patroitism specalists just get an ability to plant a flag that would provide a massive increase in requestion based on where it's placed.
These are just some basic ideas, but you can see that units would be able to enhance allies.
God that would be awesome. But even without shared progression, just having a Helldivers RTS commanding the SEAF or any of the opposing factions would be banger.
BUG SHAKERS
I wonder if that next thing is going to be able psychics, with that thing at the end.
I don't know if you noticed it in the stream and just didn't include it in the video, but I think it's a nice touch that the main building in the spaceport was in the shape of the Federation's eagle emblem.
47:25 it means "GOOD SIGNAL"
whereas:
10-1 = BAD SIGNAL
10-2 = GOOD SIGNAL
10-3 = STOP TRANSMITTING
10-4 = AFFIRMATIVE
The Naval Liason got buffed the TAC fighter strafing runs are her default attacks they hurt scorpions hard though she could target one enemy at a time.
A bit of Starship Troopers trivial here: police in the Federation are limited to Citizens, meaning they ALL have to have served in the military previously, so they're ALL familiar with all of the equipment, tactics, and training of the Mobile Infantry.
I always love watching these just for Rimmy's sheer, unbridled enthusiasm for this game and setting.
A Helldivers RTS as the SEAF with Helldivers themselves as a special unit. No limited lifespan or cooldown, you just get them for however long it takes them to blow themselves up with an airstrike.
Helldivers could be a unit that auto-calls down special strikes but cannot be controlled past giving general orders toward a position. Hard to predict what they'll do next.
Here's an idea for a Helldiver's universe RTS.
You command SEAF troops and only SEAF without any Helldivers outside of maybe them appearing in a story campaign.
Apart from a story campaign and maybe a PvP mode called "War Games" or something, framed as training exercises the main meat of the game would be a single palyer/co-op PvE mode on procedurally generated maps.
These missions would be in the same overworld as Helldivers 2 with both games contributing to Liberation and having their own MO's which would sometimes be entirely separate and sometimes intersect.
Also would be funny if in the RTS the Terminids were the harder faction and Automatons the easier one.
I think its really cool that we finally get to explore things that arent really covered often in starship troopers through the games

No idea why you thought that major would be an ahole when devs had shown that they view all playable characters as bright spots in this bleak universe, who're trying to make it better... and ironically enough, they slowly do.
To be perfectly honest its nice to see some honest positivity in stories.
That's not true at all lmao. The MI character from Raising Hell is absolutely not some bright point, he's a brainwashed idiot who goes along with the bad guys.
@@RimmyDownunder
1)there's also the main game;
2)that's not what my impression was in the end, though maybe I misunderstood something. Mercs were screwed over, but they didn't figure out that the only "customer" the corporation had was Federation government itself so their whole fit with the equipment in the end had no point. So MI commander wasn't as much brainwashed as he just did the job he was ordered to and had no problem with it.
@TheArklyte the corporation in raising hell are the bad guys, no two ways about it. They betray the mercs and use the MI to kill them off since the mercs cost the corp money but MI help is "free" (tax payer funded)
Raising Hell ends with the bad guys handily winning and the corporation getting off scot free for a disaster they were responsible for. About as far from a "bright spot succeeding" as possible. Not like the mercs are good people either though.
And yes, the MI character is brainwashed. The merc speaks the truth of what happened to him and the MI char chooses to blindly follow orders and kill him instead of any form of self reflection or questioning. He's a blind, loyal dog. The Major is very much the opposite. He expressly goes against his orders to avenge his friend and lies about it to command.

I love how surprised Rimmy is by how equipped the citizens are. Bruh, the Federation is one of the most liberal societies ever. Free access to information, minimal government intervention in your day to day life, etc.... Going off that logic, you can own any weapon you want. Of course the police need heavy kit, paired with the Bug Invasions.
And she was only two days from retirement...

"I have almost no indirect fire to shoot over my guys" is a weird sentence to hear when you were given two units(rocketman and M7) that specifically mention that they should be jumped to rooftops and used from there in their very tooltips.
Wow dude that's crazy. Guess what? You can't jump on the pillars of the bridge. I know because I tried. Ergo, you have no indirect fire in that section. Nor is jumping a particularly good option in most scenarios (the M7 is so squishy that removing it from protection always guarantees death)
Just because it's not shown in the video doesn't mean it didn't happen.
